Effect of gas composition on dispersion characteristics of blowout gas on offshore platform

  • Gas composition has a significant impact on the dispersion behavior and accumulation characteristics of blowout gas. However, few public studies has investigated the corresponding effect of gas composition. Therefore, this study firstly builds the FLACS-based numerical model about an offshore drilling platform. Then several scenarios by varying the composition of blowout gas are simulated while the scenario with the composition of "Deepwater Horizon" accident is regarded as the benchmark. Furthermore, the effects of the gas composition on the flammable cloud volume, the influenced area of flammable cloud, the influenced area of hydrogen sulfide and the critical time of the hydrogen sulfide spreading to the living area are analyzed. The results demonstrate that gas composition is a driving factor for dispersion characteristics of blowout gas. All the results can give support to reduce the risk of the similar accidents incurred by real blowouts.

An Adaptive Filtering Technique for Vibration Reduction of a Rotational LOS Control System and Frequency Noise Reduction of an Imaging System (적응형 필터링 기법을 이용한 회전형 시선제어시스템의 진동 저감 및 영상 주파수노이즈 저감 기법)

  • In mechatronic systems using electric signals to drive control systems, driving signals including the frequency band of the unwanted signals, such as resonant frequencies and noise frequencies, can affect the accuracy of the controlled system and can cause serious damage to the system due to the resonance phenomenon of the mechatronic system. An LOS (Line of Sight) control unit is used to automatically rotate the gimbal system with a video imaging system generally mounted on modern aerial vehicles. However, it still suffers from natural frequency variation problems due to variations of operational temperature. To prevent degradation in performance, this paper proposes an adaptive filtering technique based on real-time noise analysis and adaptive notch-filtering for LOS control systems, and verifies how our proposed method maintains the LOS stabilization performance. Additionally, this filtering technique can be applied to the image noise filtering of the video imaging system. It is designed to reduce image noises generated by switching circuits or power sources. The details of design procedures of the proposed filtering technique and the experiments for the performance verification are described in this paper.

Development of Wheel-Terrain Interaction Device for Mobility Prediction of Off-road Vehicle (야지 차량의 기동성 예측을 위한 휠-토양 상호작용 시험장치 개발)

  • This paper presents on the development of wheel-terrain interaction device using low-priced sensors, which will be used to predict the drawbar pull and optimal slip of off-road vehicle in real time. The essential variables obtained in the device to predict the mobility of vehicles are determined based on semi-empirical model describing the wheel-terrain interaction. Using the developed device, the experiments about the wheel-terrain interaction were performed on the soil of the Jumunjin standard sand, which yielded dynamic weight, motor driving torque, drawbar pull, and sinkage with respect to wheel slip ratio. Finally, the repeatability of the measured data are verified through repeating the experiments three times on the same condition.

  • This paper proposes the 3D modeling and simulation technique for predicting the integrated performance of combat vehicle. To consider the practical driving and firing condition of a combat vehicle, the full vehicle model, which can define the six degrees-of-freedom of vehicle motion and various firing angles, is developed. The critical design parameters such as the stiffness and damping coefficient of suspension system are applied to construct the analysis model of vehicle. A simple ballistic model, which incorporates the empirical interior ballistic model and the point mass trajectory model, is built to estimate the firing range and the firing recoil force. To predict the integrated performance and analyze the effect of system parameters, MATLAB/SIM-ULINK model of a combat vehicle for performing the real time simulation is also developed. Several simulation tests incorporating the road bump and the firing recoil force are presented to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed vehicle model.

  • In this paper, an energy regeneration algorithm is proposed to make the maximum use of the regenerative braking energy for a parallel hybrid electric vehicle(HEV) equipped with a continuous variable transmission(CVT). The regenerative algorithm is developed by considering the battery state of charge(SOC), vehicle velocity and motor capacity. The hydraulic module consists of a reducing valve and a power unit to supply the front wheel brake pressure according to the control algorithm. In order to evaluate the performance of the regenerative braking algorithm and the hydraulic module, a hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) is performed. In the HILS system, the brake system consists of four wheel brakes and the hydraulic module. Dynamic characteristics of the HEV are simulated using an HEV simulator. In the HEV simulator, each element of the HEV powertrain such as internal combustion engine, motor, battery and CVT is modelled using MATLAB/$Simulink^{(R)}$. In the HILS, a driver operates the brake pedal with his or her foot while the vehicle speed is displayed on the monitor in real time. It is found from the HILS that the regenerative braking algorithm and the hydraulic module suggested in this paper provide a satisfactory braking performance in tracking the driving schedule and maintaining the battery state of charge.

  • The information and communication technology that is being developed recently has been greatly influencing the automobile market. In recent years, devices equipped with IT technology have been installed for the safety and convenience of the driver. However, it has the advantage of increased convenience as well as the disadvantage of increasing traffic accidents due to driver 's distraction. In order to prevent such accidents, it is necessary to develop safety systems of various types and ways. In this paper, we propose a method to implement a multi-function camera driving safety system that notifies a pedestrian and lane departure warning without using a radar sensor or a stereo video image, and a study on the analysis of a lane departure alarm software result.

  • This paper present the control of the image disparity of a parallel stereo camera and its application to an underwater stereo camera to enhance the working efficiency of underwater vehicles that are equiped with manipulators in seabed operation. The stereo camera consists of two parallel lenses mounted on a lateral moving base and two CCD cameras mounted on a longitudinal moving base, which is embedded in a small pressure canister for underwater application. Because the lateral shift is related to the backward shift with a nonlinear relation, only one control input is needed to control the vergence and focus of the camera with a special driving device. We can get clear stereo vision with the camera for all the range of objects in air and in water, especially in short range object. The control system of the camera is so simple that we are able to realize a small stereo camera system and apply it to a stereo vision system for underwater vehicles. This paper also shows how to acquire the distance information of an underwater object with this stereo camera. Whenever we focus on an underwater object with the camera, we can obtain three-dimensional images and distance information in real-time.

  • The shock absorbers for marine vehicles are very important components to absorbing the shock resulting from driving. Depending on the kinds of vehicles, these essential components, piston and piston rod, must be made of S25C, S45C, and SCM440, must be precisely machined, and assembled by the bolts. Other materials used have been difficult to weld, and could be unstable in quality, by the conventional arc welding. Also, they have been associated with a lot of technical problems in manufacturing. However, using the friction welding technique, such problems will be avoided. These factors have necessitated the domestic development of the marine shock absorber using a friction welding, as well as stimulating a new approach to the study of real-time weld quality evaluation by AE techniques.

  • This paper addresses the CAN based networked intelligent multi-motor control system using DSP2812 microprocessor. CAN built in DSP2812 microprocessor is used to control and monitor the multi-motor system with the inverter driving system. CAN network implementation schemes and the algorithm for multi-motor control and monitoring is also developed. We configure the multi-motor control experimental system to verify the proposed algorithm and the reliability of CAN networks system in the various operation of two induction motors. The experimental results show that CAN based networked intelligent multi-motor control system using DSP2812 microprocessor can carry out the real-time network based control in various speed range and the position control of induction motors.

  • The advances in Information Technology have made examining the condition of vehicles possible with using various functions of a Smart Phone. Users have not realized the necessity of auto diagnosis system, for previous system required professional knowledge about vehicles. Because of this inconvenience, special system which is easy to use and quick to grasp its condition by smart phone is asked for users. In this research, auto diagnosis system is designed in Windows Phone. The replacement cycles for auto consumables, examining vehicle problems, and information of eco driving indicator are delivered in real time for auto drivers by using OBD-II information which is through wifi module in OBD-II protocol adaptor connector.
