  • In this paper, an elderly assistance system is developed based on Xenomai, a real-time development framework cooperating with the Linux kernel. A Kinect sensor is used to recognize the behavior of the elderly and A-star search algorithm is implemented to find the shortest path to the person. The mobile robot also generates a trajectory using a digital convolution operator which is based on a Bezier curve for smooth driving. In order to follow the generated trajectory within the control period, we developed real-time tasks and compared the performance of the tracking trajectory with that of non real-time tasks. The real-time task has a better result on following the trajectory within the physical constraints which means that it is more appropriate to apply to an elderly assistant system.

  • To construct distance learing servers and provide their service using the WWW(World Wide Web), it is necessary that we use a real-time processing mehtod rather than the processing after downloading method for multimedia data transmission and their processing. To fulfill such requirements, we developed a real-time processing muduloe for distance education which can process multimedia data in AVI and WAV formats in distrbuted eviroments. We in turn developede a real-time WWW server that can provide real-time services of hypertxt and motion poctures data in temsw of adding the real-time porcessing modute to the MuX framework and intergarting them with WWW. We frnally developed as distance lerming system for real-time interactive chinese character learming, bassed on the results from the pre-vious steps.

  • This paper proposes an extended scheduler model that is an extension of the existing model proposed already in [4, 5], which consists of upper layer task scheduler and lower layer scheduling framework. However, in order to support aperiodic task scheduling, the task scheduler has been divided into two parts, such as periodic task control component and aperiodic task control component. Thus, the proposed model can support various bandwidth-preserving servers that can service aperiodic tasks. The model distinctly separates a classic monolithic kernel scheduler into several kernel components according to their functionality. This enables system developers to implement a new scheduling algorithm or aperiodic task server independent of complex low kernel mechanism, and reconfigure the system at need. In Real-Time Linux [6], we implemented the proposed scheduling framework representative scheduling algorithms, and server bandwidth-preserving servers on purpose to test. Throughout these implementations, we confirmed that a new algorithm or server could be developed independently without updates of complex low kernel modules. In order to verify efficiency of the proposed model, we measured the performance of several aperiodic task servers. The results showed this the performance of model, which even consisted of two hierarchical components and several modules, didnt have such high run-time overhead, and could efficiently support reconfiguration and scheduler development.

  • Smart Grid is an intelligent power grid for efficiently producing and consuming electricity through bi-directional communication between power producers and consumers. As renewable energy develops, the share of renewable energy in the smart grid is increasing. Renewable energy has a problem that it differs from existing power generation methods that can predict and control power generation because the power generation changes in real time. Applying a self-adaptative framework to the Smart Grid will enable efficient operation of the Smart Grid by adapting to the amount of renewable energy power generated in real time. In this paper, we assume that smart villages equipped with photovoltaic power generation facilities are installed, and apply the self-adaptative framework, AiTES, to show that smart grid can be efficiently operated through self adaptation framework.

  • This article proposes a POD system framework which creates templates by using the Web service environment with good accessibility, provides them so that users can easily edit them, and uses COM ports following Web standard capable of real-time printing with the same quality as edited files. The characteristic of framework proposed in this article is that it creates programs which users with basic skill in Internet use can learn and use relatively easily when compared with existing specialized editing programs and which allows users to print real-time such files as personally created by them in the same quality as on the screen, and thereby enhances accessibility thereof.

  • The level of service (LOS) evaluation method of the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) is limited to intersections with pre-timed signal operation, while advanced real-time traffic control systems have been expending in the field. This paper proposes a preliminary framework for LOS analysis at isolated intersections controlled by COSMOS, the real-time traffic control systems robustly utilizing the degree of saturation as basic inputs. The proposed LOS evaluation framework was devised with a pilot model developed to estimate the average cycle length and green times of COSMOS. The validation test showed that the proposed framework was able to accurately project the LOS, which was separately evaluated based upon field data.

  • This paper proposes an efficient token flow design methodology for a decoder in the MPEG Reconfigurable Media Coding (RMC) framework. The MPEG RMC framework facilitates a decoder to be configured with a set of modules called functional units (FUs) that are connected by tokens. Such a modular design philosophy of the MPEG RMC framework enables the reusability and reconfigurability of FUs. One drawback of the MPEG RMC framework is that the decoder performance can be affected by increasing the token transmissions between FUs. The proposed method improves the design of the FU network in the RMC framework toward real-time decoder implementation. In the proposed method, the merging of FU, the separation of token flow, and the merging of token transactions are applied to minimize the token traffic between FUs. The experimental results of the MPEG-4 SP decoder show that the proposed method reduces the total decoding time by up to 77 percent compared to the design of the RMC simulation model.

  • In the field of document editing, a real-time collaborative editing that multiple users edit a same document simultaneously has been actively studied. The co-editing session should be kept for the synchronization about the changes during the real-time collaborative editing of documents among the participants. If the session ends during collaborative editing, they wouldn't be able to continue co-editing anymore. The purpose of this study is to develop a framework for Continuous Real-time Collaborative Editing that disconnects the session in unintended situations. Participants should be able to terminate editing at any time in opened co-editing session, and certain participant is able to disconnected because of unstable networks. In this case, the editing session should be maintained without termination.

  • The aim of this study is to design an intelligent pattern-based real-time trading system (PRTS) using rough set analysis of technical indicators, dynamic time warping (DTW), and genetic algorithm in stock futures market. Rough set is well known as a data-mining tool for extracting trading rules from huge data sets such as real-time data sets, and a technical indicator is used for the construction of the data sets. To measure similarity of patterns, DTW is used over a given period. Through an empirical study, we identify the ideal performances that were profitable in various market conditions.
