  • Dimethylaminopropyl methacryamide was photografted onto PET fabrics by continuous UV irradiation under ambient conditions. Several factors affecting the photografting were studied including irradiation energy, monomer and photoinitiator concentrations. ATR and ESCA analysis showed the successful grafting of the monomer onto the PET surface. The grafted PET fabrics showed higher zeta potentials below pH 7 compared with the ungrafted PET. The dyeability of the grafted PET fabrics to two $\alpha$-bromoacrylamide reactive dyes was investigated under various dyeing conditions including dye concentration, pH, dyeing temperature and time. The grafting imparted the reactive dyeability to PET fabrics, which was proportional to the grafted monomer content. The reactive dyeing behavior of the grafted PET fabrics was similar to that of conventional wool fabrics.

  • Five temporarily solubilized reactive disperse dyes were synthesized and characterized. They were applied to polyester/cotton blend fabric using one-bath dyeing method without dispersing agent. The dye that has azonaphthalene chro-mophore seemed to not only be exhausted on polyester but also react with cotton. But other dyes were selectively dyed on polyester and showed limited uptake on cotton. Good levelling as well as moderate to good colour fastness was obtained with the dyes on P/C blend fabric.

  • Tencel fabric cationized with chitosan can be effectively dyed with anionic dyes. To investigate the change of dyeing properties of cationized Tencel fabric, some experiments were performed under the several dyeing conditions with acid and reactive dyes. Whiteness index decreased with the increment of crosslinking agent concentration. The cationized Tencel fabric was dyed well by anionic dye such as acid dye, the dyeability of reactive dye was improved by addition of a little salt without alkali. The dye fixation on the cationized Tencel fabric was increased with chitosan concentration without electrolyte and alkali. The dyeability of Tencel treated with chitosan was better than controlled Tencel, especially under the acidic conditions. According to the number and the types of functional group of reactive dyes, dye affinity of the modified Tencel fabric varied and wash fastness of acid dye was better than reactive dye.

  • Abstract-Many studies have been carried out to improve the dyeability of anionic dyes onto cellulosic fibers. Modification of control using cationic compounds has been most widely used. In this study, an effort was made to cationize cotton fabrics using cellulose-reactive allylamine polymer, namely triazinyl N,N'-dimethyl-N,N'-diallyl ammonium chloride in the previous work. The results showed that the dye-uptake of treated cotton fabrics with acid dyes and reactive dyes markedly increased in the various dyeing conditions. In addition, the dyeing rate of cationized cotton was also faster than that of untreated counterpart. Furthermore, the antimicrobial property was also investigated to determine the effects of cationization.

  • Nowadays natural textile materials should cope with the global warming. Soft, thin and light angora fibers which have two components. One is spiky hair and the other is soft hair. The spiky hairs have a disadvantage of pilling out. The soft hairs have promising properties comparable to cashmere goat hairs, which is cheap compared to very expensive cashmere goat hairs. In this study, we investigated the dyeing properties of angora/PET, Nylon blend fabrics to acid dyes and reactive dyes including various series of acid dyes and reactive dyes for the dyeing of the blended super soft angora fabrics and their potential for deep shade dyeing effects. Our focus is to get a relation between various kind of blend and their dyeability.

  • Four kinds of neutral sodium salts with different anions, NaF, NaCl, NaBr, and NaI, were added to the dye bath to accurately understand the effect of anions on the reactive dyeing of silk with C. I. Reactive Black 5. The sodium cation towered the negative surface potential of the silk and increased the dye-uptake on fille fabric as reported previously. However, because of the discrepancy in the anions'inhibition power from cation's lowering: the surface negative potential the amount of the dye on the silk fiber was different from each other in the order of $F^->Cl^-> Br^-I^-$. The activation energy(E$_{a}$) lot the dyeing was in the order of $F^->Cl^-> Br^-I^-$ but the dye-uptake on the fabric and the activation free energy$(\Delta{G}^*)$, the real energy barrier fort the reaction, were in the order of $F^->Cl^-> Br^-I^-$ because the strength of the interaction of the anions with sodium cations was the salute as the order of the latter. In other words F$^{[-1000]}$ exerted the weakest electrostatic force on $Na^+$ and competed with the dyestuff anions least of all. The decrease in $\Delta{S}^*$ may be due to the looesly bonded activated complex of dyestuff anions, sodium cations and fiber molecules at transition state. It was clarified from the Brёnsted equation that sodium salts with different anions also had fille ionic strength effect and the specific salt effect on the reactive dyeing.g.

  • The dye-resist effect of reactive dye-resist agents in reactive dyeing of silk was investigated. The dichlorotriazine-based dye-resists achieved a higher effectiveness than others since they make a charge barrier of diffusion in the silk fiber periphery due to high reactivity of dichlorotriazine group. Similarly, in the case of hetero-multifunctional dye-resist agent, the dye-resist agent containing both a dichlorotriazine and an ${\alpha}$-bromoacrylamide reactive groups achieved better resist effectiveness than those containing both a monochlorotriazine and an ${\alpha}$-bromoacrylamide groups. Also, their resist effectiveness was improved by increasing the number of sulfonate groups in the dye-resist agents and the number of reactive groups in the reactive dyes applied to them.

  • This study focused on estimating the feasibility of a strong basic anion exchanger (PA312OH) as a sorbent for the removal of residual reactive dye and saving chemicals and water. Cellulose reactive dye C.I.RB49 was tested because reactive dye is the largest single group of dyes and that dye needs larger amount of inorganic salts as dyeing agent but nearly 50% of reactive dyes may be lost to the effluent. The adsorption characteristics of PA312OH for C.I.RB49 were as follows. Ion-selectivity among the dye and inorganic salts was Dye > ${SO_4}^{2-}$ > ${CO_3}^{2-}$ > $Cl^-$. C.I.RB49 was exchanged more than 3 times ${SO_4}^{2-}$ and ${CO_3}^{2-}$ and $Cl^-$ was not exchanged absolutely. The exchanging velocity was increased exponentially with increasing temperature. This result is positive effect on treating the high temperature dyeing process wastewater. The exchanged dye percents to initial were 96.8% and 99% at flow rate 20.5 mL/min. and 3.7 mL/min.. The exchanging capacity of PA312OH for C.I.RB49 was 215.2 mg/g at conc.=369.2 mg/L, Temp.=$25^{\circ}C$. 74% inorganic salts were recrystallized from real dark reactive color dyeing wastewater treated with PA312OH.

  • Sodium sulfate is commonly added in reactive dyebath in order to increase substantivity of the reactive dye to cellulose fiber by reducing repulsion between anionic dye and fiber. While sodium sulfate is mostly used in solid form, it is inconvenient to dissolve a large amount of powder sodium sulfate. Furthermore, if there is undissolved salt in dyebath it might cause unlevel dyeing. In this study, sodium sulfate in liquid or solid form was used in dyeing of cellulose fabric with reactive dyes of three primary color and the effect of type or amount of sodium sulfate on dyeing and fastness properties was investigated. When the amount of sodium sulfate rose to 30-50 g/l, K/S value of the dyed fabric markedly increased; further rise in sodium sulfate concentration resulted in slow increase in K/S value. For light color, optimum amount was about 30 g/l in solid form and 50-100 g/l in liquid form while, for medium to deep color, it was 50 g/l and 100-150 g/l in solid and liquid form, respectively. When using each optimum amount of salt in solid or liquid form for medium color, shape of dyeing curve as well as exhaustion was similar to each other. On the whole, similar color fastness results were obtained regardless of type or amount of sodium sulfate.
