  • The rate of the bromine-exchange reaction of antimony tribromide with benzyl bromide in nitrobenzene or 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene has been measured, using Br-82 labelled antimony tribromide. The result of the study indicates that the exchange reaction is first order with respect to benzyl bromide, and either second or first order with respect to antimony tribromide depending on its concentrations. The second-order kinetics with respect to antimony tribromide have been observed at relatively high $[SbBr_3]$ concentrations, and the first-order kinetics at lower $[SbBr_3]$ concentrations. Reaction mechanisms are proposed for the exchange reaction.

  • Numerical analysis was performed with multicomponent transport properties and detailed reaction mechanisms for axisymetric 2-D CH4 jet diffusion, partial premixed, premixed flame. Calculations were carried out twice with C2-Full Mechanism including prompt NO reaction in addition to the above C2-Thermal NO Mechanism. The role of thermal NO mechanism and prompt NO mechanism on each flame's NO production is investigated by using the numerical result. The NOx production of each flame were evaluated Quantitatively in terms of the NOx emission index

  • Part 1 provides a theoretical introduction of the hydrolysis mechanism, while Part 2 introduces other types of reaction mechanisms after hydrolysis in elastomer and PA66 composites. We reviewed the condensation reaction, which occurs after hydrolysis in bi-functional alkoxy silane (TESPD & TESPT), and investigated its effects on the mechanical properties of the composites. We also reviewed activators such as zinc soap, which enhances the mechanical properties of silica-silane-filled elastomer composites. The interaction parameter of silica-silane-filled elastomer composites [αC (alpha C)] were also discussed. The effects of hydrolysis on the mechanical property changes in plastic composites were compared and reviewed.

  • A survey over the role of sol-gel processing and metal alkoxides in the thin film preparation is given. The basic chemistry of the sol-gel process is complex due to the different reactivities of the network forming and the wide variety of reaction parameters. Despite the important progress in the investigations of the mechanisms of thin film formation, a direct relation of reaction parameters to functional oxide properties is still very difficult.

  • The photochemical decomposition of aqueous ammonia in the absence (saturated with argon) and the presence of O2 (saturated with air or oxygen) has been investigated using 184.9 nm UV light. The decomposition of ammonia depended on the concentration of oxygen in the solution. With increasing the concentration of oxygen, the decomposition of ammonia diminishes. Hydrazine is found the major product from the irradiation. In the presence of oxygen, hydrogenperoxide was also produced. The product yields depended also on the concentration of oxygen in the solution. The initial quantum yield of the products and of the ammonia decomposed were determined. Probable reaction mechanisms for the reaction were presented from the products analysis.

  • Electrochemical reduction of dibenzoylmethane was studied on mercury electrode by means of cyclic voltammetry, polarography and potentiostatic measurements in ethanol-water system. In acidic solutions monomeric pinacol was produced by irreversible two-electron process while monomeric and dimeric pinacol were competitively produced by the same process in neutral solution. However, in basic solution the dimeric pinacol was mostly produced through radical by irreversible one-electron transfer process. Mechanisms of the reduction of dibenzoylmethane are deduced from Tafel slope, pH dependance and reaction order with respect to the concentration of dibenzoylmethane in the solution of various pH.

  • Reaction of thianthrene cation radical perchlorate (1) with tert-butyl peroxide (TBP) in acetonitrile gave thianthrene (2), thianthrene 5-oxide (3), cis-thianthrene-5,10-dioxide (4), 5-acetonylthianthrenium perchlorate (9), along with small amount of thianthrene-5,5-dioxide (7) in some cases. Isolation of N-tert-butylacetamide indicated the formation of tert-butyl cation from TBP. The formation mechanisms of these products were proposed.

  • The synthesis of various cyclic carbamate compounds and amino alcohols has attracted attention in the past because of their potential as antibiotics, antitumor, analgenics, anticonvulsants. Several methods for the preparation of cyclic carbamate compounds have previously been reported including the use of heterocumulenes. We have recently described the novel synthetic method for N-protected amines from various ethers using Chlorosulfonyl isocyanate(CSI) and found that the mechanism of our CSI reaction is a competitive reaction of $S_N1$ and $S_ Ni$ mechanisms according to the stability of carbocation intermediates. • VTR(Video Tape Recorder) has very complicated mechanisms composed of various cams, links, gears and so on. To satisfy kinematic requirements of VTR components, various geometric constraints between rigid bodies and a translational cam design program are developed. Mechanisms of VTR are divided into functional groups like a control part, a loading part and a tape guide part. Each group is modeled for kinematic and dynamic analysis. Finally, all groups are combined together for a complete VTR model and loads required for each function of VTR controls are studied. Detailed description of developed programs are presented and result are discussed.
