  • Unsteady Shock-Induced Combustion has been studied for the past few decades since it is considered as one of the potential ways to reach supersonic flights. Experimental observations of Unsteady SIC were observed as early as 1960's. But Lehr was the first to report in detail the mechanisms of Shock-Induced Combustion experimentally. Numerical Studies on SIC were helpful in explaining the insight into the oscillatory behaviour in the mid 90's to early 2000's. Detailed reaction mechanisms is required to prediction the SIC flowfield more in detail. However at that time, very few reaction mechanisms on hydrogen-oxidation were reported. In the last decade, various number of hydrogen reaction mechanisms were reported. In this study, an attempt has been made to analyze the effect of various reaction mechanisms in an unsteady mode of Shock-Induced Combustion.

  • The burning velocities of conventional and oxygen-enriched methane flame in various equivalence ratio were determined by experiments. The validity of existing reaction mechanisms was examined in oxygen-enriched flame on the basis of the experiment results. Modified reaction mechanism is suggested, which was able to predict burning velocity of oxygen enriched flame as well as methane-air flame. Complementary study on reaction mechanisms shows the following results : Present experiment data were found to be more reliable in comparison with existing ones in a oxygen-enrichment condition. It was found that some modification in existing reaction mechanisms is necessary, since discrepancy between measurements and predictions is increasing with oxygen enrichment ratio. The sensitivity analysis was performed to discriminate the dominantly affecting reactions on the burning velocity in various oxygen enrichment and equivalence ratio. A modified GRI 3.0 reaction mechanism based on our experiment results was suggested, in which reaction rate coefficients of (R38) H+O$_2$<=>O+OH in GRI 3.0 reaction mechanisms were corrected based on sensitivity analysis results. This mechanism showed a good agreement in predicting the burning velocity and number density of NO in oxygen-enriched flame and would provide proper reaction information of oxygen-enriched flame at this stage.

  • Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have attracted great attention as the common power source in energy storage fields of large-scale applications such as electrical vehicles (EVs), industries, power plants, and grid-scale energy storage systems (ESSs). Insertion, alloying, and conversion reactions are the main electrochemical energy storage mechanisms in LIBs, which determine their electrochemical properties and performances. The electrochemical reaction mechanisms are determined by several factors including crystal structure, components, and composition of electrode materials. This article reviews a new strategy to compensate for the intrinsic shortcomings of each reaction mechanism by introducing the material systems to form a single compound with different types of reaction mechanisms and to allow the simultaneous hybrid electrochemical reaction of two different mechanisms in a single solid solution phase.

  • Burning velocities of conventional methane flame and oxygen-enriched methane flame were determined by experimentally and numerically at atmospheric pressure in order to examine the validity of various detailed reaction mechanisms in oxygen-enriched flame. The schlieren system was adopted to obtain the burning velocity of flame stabilized on a circular nozzle. Premix code was employed to compute the burning velocity. Three reaction mechnisms were tested at several oxygen enrichment level, whose names are GRI 3.0, MB(Miller and Bowman) and LKY(Lee Ki Yong) reaction mechanism. Sensitivity analysis was also performed to discriminate dominantly affecting reaction on burning velociy. The results showed that conventional reaction mechanisms originally based on methane-air flame were underpredict the burning velocity at high oxygen-enrichment level. The modified GRI 3.0 reaction mechanism based on our experimental results was suggested and shows a good agreement in estimating the burning velocity and the NO number density of oxygen-enriched flame.

  • Understanding of the detailed reaction mechanisms during MOVPE and ALE is essential to further improve the properties of the grown crystals and the controllability of the growth parameters. The unified models for the detailed reaction paths are not available at this stage. The study, however, has been advanced to the extent that consensus on some of the reaction paths can be drawn from the scattered data. Metalakyls such as TMGa and TMIn seem to nearly fully decompose in the gas phase through homogeneous reaction at the typical MOVPE growth temperature. Hydrides such as AsH3 and PH3, on the contrary. seem to decompose heterogeneously onthe substrate surfaces as well as homogeneously in the gas phase. However, at lower temperatures, where ALE crystals are typically grown, the growth process is strongly dependent on the surface reactions. It seems that steric hindrance effects which the radicals reaching the substrate exhibit on the surface the growth rate a function of the metalalkyle supply durations. In addition, dydrogens released from hydrides seem to play an essential role in removing carbons leberated from the metalalkyls. High growth temperatures also seem to be effective in desorbing carbons from surface. The understanding of the reaction mechanisms was possible though diverse appraaches utilizing many ex-situ and in-situ diagnostic techniques and genuine experimental designs. It is the purpose of this paper to review and discuss many of these efforts and to draw some possible conclusions from them.

  • The interpretation of the reaction mechanism is significant to produce the high quality welds and understand the welding processes. This investigation is important for the design of welding consumables and the selection of welding process parameters to develop the high quality welds. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of electrochemical reactions on the transfer of alloy elements between slag and weld metal during submerged arc welding During submerged arc welding weld metal composition is shown to be controlled by two reaction mechanisms in four reaction zones. The responsible reaction mechanisms are thermochemical and electrochemical reactions. The possible reaction sites are the melted electrode tip, the detached droplet, the hot weld pool immediately below the moving electrode, and the cooling and solidifying weld pool behind the moving electrode. The possible reactions in submerged arc welding at different zones of the process is schematically shown in Figure 1.

  • The reaction mechanisms and kinetics of tertiary butylhydroquinone(TBHQ) as an antioxidant in soybean oil oxidation were studied. The oxidation reaction of soybean oil at 55, 60 and $65^{\circ}C$ was a first order. The activation energies of soybean oil containing 0, 25, 50, and 75ppm TBHQ were 12.15, 6.05, 6.15 and 6.17kcal/mole. respectively. The addition of THQ to soybean oil containing 0, 25, 50, and 75ppm TBHQ were 1.88$\times${TEX}$10^{7}${/TEX}, 4.10$\times${TEX}$10^{2}${/TEX}, 4.32 $\times${TEX}$10^{2}$p/TEX} and 3.97$\times${TEX}$10^{2}${/TEX}, respectively. The decrease of frequency factor rather than the activation energy. The effects of antioxidants on the temperature dependecy of lipid oxidation could be effectively evaluated by measuring their effects on the activation energy of lipid oxidation.

  • Electrochemical phenomena underpin a broad spectrum of energy, chemical, and information technologies such as resistive memories and secondary batteries. The optimization of functionalities in these devices requires understanding electrochemical mechanisms on the nanoscale. Even though the nanoscale electrochemical phenomena have been studied by electron microscopies, these methods are limited for analyzing dynamic electrochemical behavior and there is still lack of information on the nanoscale electrochemical mechanisms. The alternative way can be an atomic force microscopy (AFM) because AFM allows nanoscale measurements and, furthermore, electrochemical reaction can be controlled by an application of electric field through AFM tip. Here, I will summarize recent studies to probe nanoscale electrochemical reaction in battery applications by AFM. In particular, we have recently developed electromechanical based AFM techniques for exploring reversible and irreversible electrochemical phenomena on the nanoscale. The present work suggests new strategies to explore fundamental electrochemical mechanisms using the AFM approach and eventually will provide a powerful paradigm for probing spatially resolved electrochemical information for energy applications.

  • The Feshbache-Kermane-Koonin (FKK) multi-step direct (MSD) theory of pre-equilibrium reactions has been used to compute the single-step cross-sections for some (p,${\alpha}$) reactions using the knock-on and pick-up reaction mechanisms at two incident proton energies. For the knock-on mechanism, the reaction was assumed to have taken place by the direct ejection of a preformed alpha cluster in a shell-model state of the target. But the reaction was assumed to have taken place by the pick-up of a preformed triton cluster (also bound in a shell-model state of the target core) by the incident proton for the pick-up mechanism. The Yukawa forms of potential were used for the proton-alpha (for the knock-on process) and proton-triton (for the pick-up process) interaction and several parameter sets for the proton and alpha-particle optical potentials. The calculated cross-sections for both mechanisms gave satisfactory fits to the experimental data. Furthermore, it has been shown that some combinations of the calculated distorted wave Born approximation cross-sections for the two reaction mechanisms in the FKK MSD theory are able to give better fits to the experimental data, especially in terms of range of agreement. In addition, the theory has been observed to be valid over a wider range of energy.
