Proton-NMR spectroscopic method was applied to kinetic study of concentrated sulfuric acid hydrolysis reaction, especially focused on 2nd step of acid hydrolysis with deferent reaction time and temperature as main variables. Commercial xylan extracted from beech wood was used as model compound. In concentrated acid hydrolysis, xylan was converted to xylose, which is unstable in 2nd hydrolysis condition, which decomposed to furfural or other reaction products. Without neutralization steps, proton-NMR spectroscopic analysis method was valid for analysis of not only monosaccharide (xylose) but also other reaction products (furfural and formic acid) in acid hydrolyzates from concentrated acid hydrolysis of xylan, which was the main advantages of this analytical method. Higher temperature and longer reaction time at 2nd step acid hydrolysis led to less xylose concentration in xylan acid hydrolyzate, especially at $120^{\circ}C$ and 120 min, which meant hydrolyzed xylose was converted to furfural or other reaction products. Loss of xylose was not match with furfural formation, which meant part of furfural was degraded to other undetected compounds. Formation of formic acid was unexpected from acidic dehydration of pentose, which might come from the glucuronic acid at the side chain of xylan.

A new process for the synthesis of polyphenylcarbosilane (PPCS) via thermal rearrangement of polymethylphenylsilane (PMPS) in supercritical cyclohexane was proposed and investigated at reaction temperatures of $380-420^{\circ}C$, reaction times of 1-2 h, and a pressure of 15 MPa. The structure, molecular weight, and molecular weight distribution of the product were characterized by FT-IR, Si-NMR, and GPC. The ceramic yield was also measured by TGA analysis. High-quality PPCS with high molecular weight and ceramic yield can be synthesized via a supercritical process. Furthermore, this process, when compared to the conventional method, tends to moderate the reaction conditions such as reaction temperature and time. It is concluded that thermal rearrangement in supercritical fluid is an efficient and viable process in terms of the resulting yield, efficiency, and reaction time compared with those of the conventional PCS production process.
Purpose: This study aims to examine the effects of pulsed ultrasound on skin inflammatory reaction induced by ultraviolet irradiation. Methods: Twenty subjects were selected for this study. Inflammatory reaction was induced by ultraviolet irradiation in two areas of the lumbar region of the subjects. Pulsed ultrasound (3 MHz) was applied to one of the two areas of inflammatory reaction at a pulse ratio of 1:4, intensity of $0.5W/cm^2$, once a day for 5 min, and pulsed ultrasound was not applied to the other area. Wound color (chromatic red), luminance (gray) and wound contraction (area) were measured using digital imaging processing method. Results: There was a significant difference in wound color (chromatic red) in the interaction between time and area. There was a significant difference in luminance in the interaction between time and area. There was a significant difference in wound contraction between the two areas. Conclusion: These results indicate that pulsed ultrasound increased the wound contraction rate and reduced the inflammatory reaction activity such as erythema induced by ultraviolet irradiation.
The aim of this research was to enhance the flavor of visceral extracts from skipjack tuna. Flavor precursors and the optimum condition for the Maillard reaction were determined. The flavor extract was prepared from the tuna viscera using Endo/Exo Protease controlled in 3 factors; temperature, enzyme amounts and incubation time. The optimal condition for producing tuna viscera protein hydrolysate (TVPH) was 60℃, 0.5% enzyme (w/w) and 4-hour incubation time. TVPH were further processed to tuna viscera flavor enhancer (TVFE) with Maillard reaction. The Maillard reactions of TVFE were conducted with or without supplements such as xylose, yeast extract and methionine. The Maillard volatile components were analyzed with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Sixteen volatiles such as 2-methylpropanal, methylpyrazine, 2,5-dimethylpyrazine, dimethyl disulfide and 2-acetylthaizone were newly formed via Maillard reaction and the similarity of volatile contents from TVPH and TVFE were virtualized using Pearson's correlation integrated with heat-map and principal component analysis. To virtualize aromagram of TVPH and TVFE, odor activity value and odor impact spectrum (OIS) techniques were applied. According to OIS results, 3-methylbutanal, 2-methylbutanal, 1-octen-3-ol 2,5-dimethylpyrazine, methional and dimethyl trisulfide were the potent odorants contributed to the meaty, creamy, and toasted aroma in TVFE.

The boundary reaction method(BRM) is a substructure time domain method, it removes global iterations between frequency and time domain analyses commonly required in the hybrid approaches, so that it operates as a two-step uncoupled method. The BRM offers a two-step method as follows: (1) the calculation of boundary reaction forces in the frequency domain on an interface of linear and nonlinear regions, (2) solving the wave radiation problem subjected to the boundary reaction forces in the time domain. In the time domain analysis, the near-field soil is modeled to simulate the wave radiation problem. This paper evaluates the performance of the BRM according to modeling extent of near-field soil for the nonlinear SSI analysis of base-isolated NPP structure. For this purpose, parametric studies are performed using equivalent linear SSI problems. The accuracy of the BRM solution is evaluated by comparing the BRM solution with that of conventional SSI seismic technique. The numerical results show that the soil condition affects the modeling range of near-field soil for the BRM analysis as well as the size of the basemat. Finally, the BRM is applied for the nonlinear SSI analysis of a base-isolated NPP structure to demonstrate the accuracy and effectiveness of the method.
In this study, we performed surface modification of biodegradable microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) to use as a filler in polyethylene (PE) composite in food packaging application. We modified MCC surface with (3-trimethoxysilylpropyl)diethylenetriamine (TPDT) silane coupling agent, which has one primary amino group and two secondary amino groups per molecule, to introduce amino groups with a carbon dioxide adsorption capability in MCC. Effects of each of the reaction conditions such as amount of TPDT introduced, swelling time, reaction temperature, and reaction time on surface modification degree of MCC were investigated by changing a variety of above reaction conditions. The amount of TPDT grafted on MCC surface and formation of chemical bonds were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), elemental analysis (EA), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and solid state $^{29}Si$ nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. We confirmed increase of grafted amount of TPDT on MCC with increasing reaction time, reaction temperature, and amount of introduced TPDT.

Considering the non-linear behavior of structure and soil when evaluating a nuclear power plant's seismic safety under a beyond-design basis earthquake is essential. In order to obtain the nonlinear response of a nuclear power plant structure, a time-domain SSI analysis method that considers the nonlinearity of soil and structure and the nonlinear Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI) effect is necessary. The Boundary Reaction Method (BRM) is a time-domain SSI analysis method. The BRM can be applied effectively with a Perfectly Matched Layer (PML), which is an effective energy absorbing boundary condition. The BRM has a characteristic that the magnitude of the response in far-field soil increases as the boundary interface of the effective seismic load moves outward. In addition, the PML has poor absorption performance of low-frequency waves. For this reason, the accuracy of the low-frequency response may be degraded when analyzing the combination of the BRM and the PML. In this study, the accuracy of the analysis response was improved by adjusting the PML input parameters to improve this problem. The accuracy of the response was evaluated by using the analysis response using KIESSI-3D, a frequency domain SSI analysis program, as a reference solution. As a result of the analysis applying the optimal PML parameter, the average error rate of the acceleration response spectrum for 9 degrees of freedom of the structure was 3.40%, which was highly similar to the reference result. In addition, time-domain nonlinear SSI analysis was performed with the soil's nonlinearity to show this study's applicability. As a result of nonlinear SSI analysis, plastic deformation was concentrated in the soil around the foundation. The analysis results found that the analysis method combining BRM and PML can be effectively applied to the seismic response analysis of nuclear power plant structures.
Across sectional study was performed to evaluate the chronic effects on central nerve system(CNS) of cumulative exposure of complex organic solvents, using neurobehavioral test. Subjects were 66 (male) dock yard painters of some large ship industry which is located in Ulsan. The neurobehavioral test battery used in this study was NCTB (Neurabehavioral Core Test Battery recommended by WHO(World Health Organization), which consisted of 7 items-Profile of mood states (POMS), Simple reaction time, Santa Ana dexterity test. Digit span, Digit symbol, Benton visual retention test and Pursuit aiming. The subjects were classified by 3 groups according to duration of employment(group 1 ; less than 9 years, group 2 ; 10-14 years, group 3 ; more than 15 years). The results of performance were analyzed considering of work duration, age, educational level, alcohol drinking, smoking and testing time as confounding factors. Benton visual retention test, pursuit aiming correct dot and sum of dot showed significant differences among the groups, and decreased with increasing work duration. It indicated that the mean scores of performance ability were lowering according to work duration. Besides, the tests that didn't show statistical significances but showed linear trends were depression-dejection, vigor, fatigue of POMS, slowest time of simple reaction time and digit span forward. Most of the neurobehavioral test items were correlated with age and educational level. After controlling of confounding factors-age and educational level, the results followed ; digit span backward was different significantly. Tension-anxiety, depression-dejection, anger-hostility of POMS, SD and slowest time of simple reaction time, Santa Ana dexterity test non-preferred hand, digit span forward, Benton visual retention test and pursuit aiming correct dot decreased with increasing of work duration. The correlation analysis was done in order to find out the relationship between subjective symptom and the scores of neurobehavioral core test battery. According to the results of analysis there were no items that had statistical significant relationship(p<0.05).

In this study, a chlorination technique for recycling Li2ZrO3, a reaction product of ZrO2-assisted rinsing process, was investigated to minimize the generation of secondary radioactive pyroprocessing waste. It was found that the reaction temperature was a key parameter that determined the reaction rate and maximum conversion ratio. In the temperature range of 400-600℃, an increase in the reaction temperature resulted in a profound increase in the reaction rate. Hence, according to the experimental results, a reaction temperature of at least 450℃ was proposed to ensure a Li2ZrO3 conversion ratio that exceeded 80% within 8 h of the reaction time. The activation energy was found to be 102 ± 2 kJ·mol-1·K-1 between 450 and 500℃. The formation of LiCl and ZrO2 as reaction products was confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. The experimental results obtained at various total flow rates revealed that the overall reaction rate depends on the Cl2 mass transfer rate in the experimental condition. The results of this study prove that the chlorination technique provides a solution to minimize the amount of radioactive waste generated during the ZrO2-assisted rinsing process.
