  • The core/shell type structure of the highly crosslinked poly(glycidylmetharylate-co-divinylbenzene) microspheres prepared in the precipitation polymerization in acetonitrile was thoroughly verified by means of swelling, $^1H$ NMR, XPS, TEM and TGA measurements. In the XPS measurement, the higher the GMA content, the higher the oxygen content was observed, implying that the higher content of GMA is observed in the particle surface. The further verification of the core/shell structure of the poly(GMA-co-DVB) particles was carried out using $^1H$ NMR and TEM techniques, resulting in the poly(GMA-co-DVB) particles with the GMA rich-phase and DVB rich-phase. In overall, the poly(GMA-co-DVB) microspheres consist of a highly crosslinked DVB rich-phase in the core and slightly or non-crosslinked GMA rich-phase in the shell part due to the different reaction ratios between two monomers and self-crosslinking density of DVB.

  • Flame retardant(FR) properties were investigated with tricredyl phosphate(TCP) and tris(pentafluorophenyl)phosphine(TFPP) as additives for lithium-ion batteries. Thermal stability was improved with additives in $Li/LiNi\frac{1}{3}Mn\frac{1}{3}Co\frac{1}{3}O_2$ cells comparing to non-additive electrolytes. Oxygen evolution reaction of the cathode material was delayed to up $55^{\circ}C$, from $275^{\circ}C\;to\;330^{\circ}C$. Electrolytes with the 1 wt.% additives provided good FR properties while the resonable battery performance is maintained.

  • The effects on the formation of anodic oxide films on Mg-Al alloy (AZ91) in 1M-NaOH solution was investigated using parameters of current density and time during anodizing The general tendency has been confirmed that the increase of anodizing time improves the corrosion resistance. It is considered that the formation of anodic oxide film was increased by increasing the applied current and the anodizing time to generate active dissolution reaction In anodizing at constant current density. passivity potentials shifted to noble direction with increasing current densities. It was confirmed that oxygen quantify in anodic oxide films increased with anodizing time. The compact films above 4 $mA/cm^2$ were formed with the shape of an island in grooves at early stage and then grew with combination of the islands

  • We investigated the surface treatment of spectra fibers to improve tensile properties of spectra/vinylester composites. The spectra fibers were surface-treated using $\textrm{Ar}^{+}$ ion beam under oxygen environment. The treatment effect of spectra fibers on the tensile properties of spectra/vinylester composites was determined comparing the residual strength of surface-treated spectra/vinylester composites with that of untreated spectra/vinylester composites. It was found that the residual strength was improved 15% by the surface treatment of spectra fibers.

  • Microstructure evolution including morphological change in the vicinity of the electrodes, porosity change and grain boundary migration was observed in polycrystalline CoO subject to electric fields at 1100 and 121$0^{\circ}C$ in air. At the cathode, the transported cations react with oxygen in the surrounding to form new lattices, while, at the anode, the reverse reaction occurs leading to lattice annihilation. Lattice formation also takes place at the surface of pores near the cathode inducing pore-filling effect. Grain boundary migration was found bo be enhanced or retarded depending on the field direction. It is therefore implied that the driving force of grain boundary migration is the vectorial sum of the curvature-induced chemical potential gradient and the electric field applied.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the treatment efficiency including reaction kinetics and hydraulic characteristics of food processing wastewater by using an ejector-type aeration system (ETAS) in activated sludge process. The oxygen transfer efficiency in ETAS can be changed in accordance with the depth of reactor. However, the optimum air velocity was found less than 1.82 m/hr at a superficial liquid velocity of 634 m/hr. The ETAS process showed higher organic material removal efficiency than that of the existing activated sludge process under hydraulic detention time 6 to 12 hours. This process, which can maintain MLVSS highly, is able to have high organic material removal efficiency at short HRT and deal with variable organic material loading.

  • Dinitramide salts may be useful as effective solid oxidizers because of higher oxygen content than nitrate salts. 3-Nitramino-propanoate was given by base treatement in the retro-Michael reaction of N-nitro-4-azaheptanedioate, which was prepared by nitration of 4-azaheptanedioate using $HNO_3$-TFAA(trifiluoroacetic anhydride)-$Br_2$. The nitramino compound was treated wile $NO_2BF_4$ to give dinitramino compound which was subsequently reacted with bases to give dinitramide salts.

  • Nitrogen pollution in urban and rural groundwater is a common problem and poses a major threat to drinking water supplies based on groundwater. In this work, the kinetics of nitrification-denitrification coupled reactions are modeled and new reaction modules for the RT3D code (Clement, 1997) describing the fate and transport nitrogen species, dissolved oxygen, dissolved organic carbon, and biomass are developed. The proposed nitrogen transformations and transport model showed very good match with results of a conceptual model. However, the model simulation results for the major reactive species should be tested for validation using experimental and field data.

  • Arsenic is a toxic and carcinogenic metalloid, whose sources in nature include mineral dissolution and volcanic eruption. Abandoned mines and hazardous waste disposal sites are another major source of arsenic contamination of soil and aquatic systems. To predict concentrations of the toxic inorganic arsenic in aqueous phase. the biogeochemical redox processes and transport behavior need to be studied together and be coupled in a reactive transport model. A new reaction module describing the fate and transport of inorganic arsenic species (As(II)), dissolved oxygen, nitrate, ferrous iron, sulfate, and dissolved organic carbon are developed and incorporated into the RT3D code.

  • By referring thirty-seven previous studies on manual material handling (MMH), this paper analyzed guidelines and main factors of one-handed tasks. The previous studies concerned main factors of distance, weight, frequency, posture, gender, age, training, direction of force, height of the force exerted, and object shape and size. Based on these factors, the criteria used to understand one-handed tasks were objective measures of maximum strength, reaction force, etc., psychophysical measures of maximum acceptable frequency and weight, etc., and physiological measures of oxygen uptake, heart rate, electromyography, etc. An allowance threshold model regarding quantitative and objective fatigue and workload would be suggested for future research. This study would be expected that it serve to establish and Korean recommendations of one-handed tasks.
