  • Milled carbon fiber (mCF) was prepared by a ball milling process, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) diffractograms were obtained by a $2{\theta}$ continuous scanning analysis to study mCF crystallinity as a function of milling time. The raw material for the mCF was polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber (T700). As the milling time increased, the mean particle size of the mCF consistently decreased, reaching $1.826{\mu}m$ at a milling time of 18 h. The XRD analysis showed that, as the milling time increased, the fraction of the crystalline carbon decreased, while the fraction of the amorphous carbon increased. The (002) peak became asymmetric before and after milling as the left side of the peak showed an increasingly gentle slope. For analysis, the asymmetric (002) peak was deconvoluted into two peaks, less-developed crystalline carbon (LDCC) and more-developed crystalline carbon. In both peaks, Lc decreased and $d_{002}$ increased, but no significant change was observed after 6 h of milling time. In addition, the fraction of LDCC increased. As the milling continued, the mCF became more amorphous, possibly due to damage to the crystal lattices by the milling.

  • It is necessary to measure pressure, temperature, chemical equilibrium and the shape of flame in order to understand the combustion process in a combustion chamber. In particular, the flame formulation and combustion process of divided combustion chamber are different from those of a single chamber, And the variable diameter of a jet hole can effect not only physical properties like ejection velocity, temperature and time of combustion but also a chemical property like the reaction mechanism. Accordingly temperature is one of the most important factors which influence the combustion mechanism. This paper observed shape of flame by using the schlieren photographs and measured the pressure in a combustion chamber and the reaching time of the flame by ion probe By doing these, we investigation the formulation of the flame and the process of propagation. These measurement methods can be advanced in understanding the combustion process and process and propagation of flame.

  • In this research, we propose a path-planning algorithm for an autonomous mobile robot using geographical information, under the condition that the robot moves in unknown environment. All image inputted by camera at every sampling time are analyzed and geographical elements are recognized, and the geographical information is embedded in environmental map. The geographical information was transformed into 1-dimensional evaluation value that expressed the difficulty of movement for the robot. The robot goes toward the goal searching for path that minimizes the evaluation value at every sampling time. Then, the path is updated by integrating the exploited information and the prediction on unexploited environment. We used a sensor fusion method for improving the mobile robot dead reckoning accuracy. The experiment results that confirm the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm on the robot's reaching the goal successfully using geographical information are presented.

  • Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) compared to normal concrete is exhibiting extremely high strength characteristics with compressive strength and tensile strength reaching 200MPa and 15MPa, respectively. The mechanical characteristics of UHPC can be thus exploited advantageously in the construction of structure through the reduction of the cross-sectional area and fabrication of slim and light-weight of the structural members. In the case where the structural member is made of UHPC, the occurrence of crack can be prevented by releasing the restraint provided by the form in due time. This research performs parametric study of the failure characteristics of concrete such as failure energy and softening curve suggested by the viscous crack model approximating the failure of concrete. The scope of this research contains the results of tests performed to investigate the strength of UHPC during early elapsed time.

  • Experimental tests on the high strength self-compacting concrete with light-weight fine aggregate and light-weight coarse aggregate(LHSSC) were performed with slump-flow, reaching time to the slump-flow of 500mm, V-funnel dropping time and U-box difference level and compressive strength. LHSCC with light-weight fine aggregate of 75% and light-weight coarse aggregate of 100% was only satisfied with the property conditions of second self-compacting concrete(SCC), like as flowability, resistance to segregation and filling ability. The 28-day compressive strength of LHSCC indicated above 300kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ in all concrete mixtures, and it was increased to increase the replacement ratio of light-weight fine aggregate or to decrease the replacement ratio of light-weight coarse aggregate. Therefore, for satisfying the properties of fresh SCC and hardened concrete with above 350kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$, it would expected that the replacement ratio of light-weight fine aggregate and light-weight coarse aggregate will be determined with 50~75% and 25~50%, respectively.

  • In this paper, a novel sliding surface is proposed by defining a novel virtual state. This sliding surface has nominal dynamics of an original system and makes it possible that the Discrete-Time Sliding Mode Control(DSMC) technique is used with the various types of controllers. Its design Is based on the augmented system whose dynamics have a higher order than that of the original system. The reaching phase is removed by using an initial virtual state which makes the initial sliding function equal to zero.

  • The purpose of this study is localization of safety relief valves for Nuclear Service through technical development with overall design, fabrication, inspection, capacity certification test and functional qualification test of safety relief valves in accordance with ASME Section III and KEPIC Code. Safety relief valve is the important equipment used to protect the pressure vessel, the steam generator and the other pressure facility from overpressure by discharging the operating medium when the pressure of system is reaching the design pressure of the system. But we're depending on technology of the other country up to the present time. Because we don‘ have our own technologies, we have been spent the great time and money on installing and repairing safety relief valve at nuclear power plant. Therefore we have to achieve the development of safety relief valves for Nuclear Service with our own technologies.

  • The containment local leakage rate testing in nuclear power plants is performed in accordance with ANSI/ANS 56.8-1994 in Korea. Two methods, the make-up flow rate and the pressure decay, are used for local leakage rate testing. Though ANSI/ANS 56.8-1994 does not define clearly the minimum test duration for the make-up flow rate method, it requires obtaining the data after reaching the stable condition. Thus the prerequisite stable condition for data acquisition and the testing time is differently applied to each NPPs. Therefore, this study presents a standardized test procedure for data stabilization and testing time through experiments to improve the test reliability.

  • In this parer, we present a real-time path planning algorithm which is integrated the artificial potential field(APF) and simulated annealing(SA) methods for mobile robot. The APF method in path planning has gained popularity since 1990's. It doesn't need the modeling of the complex configuration space of robot, and is easy to apply the path planning with simple computation. However, there is a major problem with APF method. It is the formation of local minima that can trap the robot before reaching its goal. So, to provide local minima recovery, we apply the SA method. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified through simulation.

  • The effects of indigenous bacteria on geochemical behavior of As in As-contaminated sediments (Hwachon mine and Myoungbong mine) after biostimulation with a variety of carbon sources were investigated under anaerobic condition. In Hwachon sediment, As was dramatically extracted from nonsterile sediment with time, reaching the highest concentration of $500{\mu}g/L$. The As leaching was likely caused by microbial dissolution of Fe oxides/oxyhydroxides with which As had been coprecipitated. However, in the case of Myoungbong sediment supplied with glucose, dissolved As decreased with time likely due to production of As sulfide(s) and subsequent precipitation, which resulted from bacterial reduction of $SO_4^{2-}$. The results implied that bacterial in-situ stabilization of As In subsurface has a potential to be practically applied.
