  • The Karman boundary-layer, has been numerically investigated for the disturbance wave number, wave velocity, azimuth angle and radius (Reynolds number, Re). The disturbed flow over rotating disk can lead to transition at a much lower Re than that of the well-known Type 1 mode of instability. This early transition is due to the excitation of the Type II mode. Presented are the neutral stability results concerning these modes by solving new formulated vorticity equations with consideration of whole convective terms. When the present numerical results are compared with the previously known results, the value of critical Re corresponding to Type I is moved from Rec,! =285.3 to 270.2 and the value corresponding to Type II is from $Re_{c,2}$=69.4 to 36.9, respectively. Also, the corresponding wave number is moved from $k_1$ =0.378 to $k_1$ =0.389 for Type I; from $k_2$ =0.279 to $k_2$=0.385 for Type II. For Type II, the upper limit of wave number and azimuth angle is $k_U$=0.5872,$varepsilon_U=-18^{\circ}$ , while its lower limit is$k_L$ =0.05, $varepsilon_L=-27^{\circ}$ This implies that the disturbances will be relatively fast amplified at small Re and within narrow bands of wave number compared with the previous results.

  • Attribute-based encryption (ABE) is an encryption scheme in which the user is able to decrypt a ciphertext with associated attributes. However, the scheme does not offer the capability of decryption to others when the user is offline. For this reason, the attribute-based proxy re-encryption (ABPRE) scheme was proposed, which combines traditional proxy re-encryption with ABE, so a user is able to empower designated users to decrypt the re-encrypted ciphertext with the associated attributes of designated users. However, previous ABPRE schemes demands a number of pairing operations that imply huge computational overhead. To reduce the number of pairing operations, we reduce the pairing operations with exponent operations. This paper provides a novel approach to an ABPRE scheme with constant pairing operation latency.

  • The purpose of this research is to study the characteristics of heat transfer in composite rotary heat pipe as modeled turbine rotating by a finite element analysis and experiment. Nu number, Re number, Pr number and dimensionless condensate layer thickness by thermal input and revolutions per minute were given as analysis factors. The comparison between calculated and experimental data showed similar tendency. Therefore the analysis method may be useful to predict the performance of composite heat pipe. The resistance on heat pipe showed the best effect of heat transfer by film condensation, by decreasing film condensation, the heat transfer rate from condenser was increased rapidly. The dimensionless condensate layer thickness according to Re number at given Pr number showed constant values, the dimensionless condensate layer thickness is proportionate to the square root of inverse of revolution number per minute. In this study Nu=A$({\delta}({\omega}/v)^{-1/2}Re^B)$ is used to the convection heat transfer coefficient and A=0.963, B=0.5025 were obtained as analysis predicts.

  • Section model test, as the most commonly used method to evaluate the aerostatic and aeroelastic performances of long-span bridges, may be carried out under different conditions of incoming wind speed, geometric scale and wind tunnel facilities, which may lead to potential Reynolds number (Re) effect, model scaling effect and wind tunnel scale effect, respectively. The Re effect and scale effect on aerostatic force coefficients and aeroelastic characteristics of streamlined bridge decks were investigated via 1:100 and 1:60 scale section model tests. The influence of auxiliary facilities was further investigated by comparative tests between a bare deck section and the deck section with auxiliary facilities. The force measurement results over a Re region from about 1×105 to 4×105 indicate that the drag coefficients of both deck sections show obvious Re effect, while the pitching moment coefficients have weak Re dependence. The lift coefficients of the smaller scale models have more significant Re effect. Comparative tests of different scale models under the same Re number indicate that the static force coefficients have obvious scale effect, which is even more prominent than the Re effect. Additionally, the scale effect induced by lower model length to wind tunnel height ratio may produce static force coefficients with smaller absolute values, which may be less conservative for structural design. The results with respect to flutter stability indicate that the aerodynamic-damping-related flutter derivatives 𝘈*2 and 𝐴*1𝐻*3 have opposite scale effect, which makes the overall scale effect on critical flutter wind speed greatly weakened. The most significant scale effect on critical flutter wind speed occurs at +3° wind angle of attack, which makes the small-scale section models give conservative predictions.

  • This experimental study is about the flow characteristics according to existence and nonexistence of the control rod and location in the flow field where it has the Inclined rear walls in the open cavity. By using the visualization of flow and particle image velocimetry (PIV), we performed about a change and speed of the Reynolds number. Our objective was what part of the control rod gives less effects to the characteristics of flow and how the shear mixing layer moves at what critical point of the Reynolds number. As a result, we differed the location of control rod. So finally, L/H=0.2 was discovered to give less effects to the cavity. The flow of backside of vortex faces the upper side. And we found that this phenomenon shows up more clear when the number of Reynolds increases. This is because of the flow of vortex causes by the condition of y/H=1.0. This phenomenon gets more clear with increasing of number of Reynolds, and critical point of the Reynolds number was $Re=1.0{\times}10^4$ around. If control rod is L/H=0.1, depending on the number of Reynolds ($Re=6.0{\times}10^3$, $Re=8.0{\times}10^3$, $Re=1.0{\times}10^4$, $Re=1.2{\times}10^4$), doubled vortex shows up. As the shear mixing layer of the upper side of cavity increases, the speed of the lower side was very stable.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal distances between pipes to minimize the pressure loss and turbulent intensity. This was accomplished by investigating the distances between sleeve-jointed pipes and the flow changes in pipes based on variations in the Reynolds (Re) number when installing adjusting pieces for the pipes. When the thickness tp of the sleeve-jointed piping was fixed at 5 mm and the pipe lengths Lp were 10, 50, 100, and 200 mm, the correlations with the velocity of the sleeve-jointed part, pressure distribution, length of the reattachment point in the recirculation area, and Re number were analyzed. The flow characteristic of the sleeve-jointed part from a laminar to a turbulent flow region was determined by setting the Re range to 200 ≤ Re ≤ 5,000. This was done by utilizing Ansys Fluent 18.1, which is a commercial program. The enlargement and contraction ratios of the sleeve-jointed part were 1.2 and 0.83, respectively, and the turbulent intensity of the sleeve downstream edge and pressure change both increased as the Re number increased while Lp remained constant. The fact that the flow on the sleeve wall surface was disturbed by tp resulted in losses in velocity energy. Therefore, the edge of the sleeve-jointed part was also effected. When Lp was 10 mm or less, the turbulent intensity of the edge part did not change significantly as the Re number increased. The reattachment point in the recirculation area did not appear at Lp of 10 mm or less and was not affected by the vortex. In the case of 3,000 ≤ Re, the reattachment length of the wall surface of the sleeve-jointed part was nearly constant as Lp increased.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of bastnasite nitrate fertilizer (BNF) on the growth of creeping bentgrass. Fertilizer treatments were designed as follows; non-fertilizer (NF), control (CF; compound fertilizer), RE-l (CF+0.3 $g{\cdot}m^{-2}$BNF), RE-2 (CF+0.5 $g{\cdot}m^{-2}$BNF), RE-3 (CF+1.0 $g{\cdot}m^{-2}$BNF) and RE-4 (0.5 $g{\cdot}m^{-2}$BNF). Every treatment was arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. In creeping bentgrass, turf qualities such as turf color index and chlorophyll index, shoot number, clipping dry weight and nutrients of tissue were measured. It was hardly affected by BNF application in investigation of chemical properties of the soil. By applying BNF, turf color index and chlorophyll index in RE-2 were increased 3.9% and 9.2% more than NF. As applied BNF on creeping bentgrass, shoot number was increased 9% in RE-4 more than NF and 22% in RE~2 more than CF. It was increased in N uptake and clipping dry weight of creeping bentgrass by supplying BNF. These results indicated that the BNF application promoted a turf qualities and a growth of creeping bentgrass by advancing N uptake and shoot number.

  • Extinction limits and combustion temperatures in heat-recirculating excess enthalpy reactors employing both gas-phase and catalytic reaction have been examined previously, with and emphasis Reynolds number (Re) effects and possible application to microscale combustion devices. However, Re is not the only parameter needed to characterize reactor operation. In particular, the use of a fixed reactor size implies that residence time and Re cannot be adjusted independently. To remedy this situation, in this work geometrically similar reactors of different physical sizes were tested with the aim of independently determining the effects of Re and Da. It is found that the difference between catalytic and non-catalytic combustion limits narrow as scale decreases. Moreover, to assess the importance of wall thermal conductivity, reactors of varying wall thickness were studied. From these results the effect of scale on microscale reactor performance and implications for practical microcombustion devices are discussed.

  • As a follow-up of our previous studies on flow-induced forces on two identical nearby circular cylinders immersed in the cross flow at Re=100 and flow patterns past them,$^{(1,2)}$ we present Reynolds-number effects on the forces and patterns by further computing flows with Re=40, 50, 160. We consider all possible arrangements of the two circular cylinders in terms of the distance between the two cylinders and the angle inclined with respect to the main flow direction. Collecting all the numerical results obtained, we propose contour diagrams for mean force coefficients and their rms of fluctuation as well as for flow patterns and Strouhal number for each Re. These diagrams shed light on a comprehensive picture on how the wake interaction between the two cylinders alters depending on Re.

  • The laminar convection heat transfer in a ventilated space with various horizontal partitions was studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental results by holographic interferometer showed good agreements with the numerical results. For the numerical study, the governing equations were solved by using a finite volume method for $46.6\leqRe\leq1332,\;1460\leqGr\leql1585$, Pr=0.71 and the variations of partition lengths. The isotherms and velocity vectors have been represented for various parameters. As the length of partition increases, the convection heat transfer decreases. Based on the numerical data, a correlation was obtained for the dimensionless mean Nusselt number in terms of $Gr/Re^2$. In the region of $Gr/Re^2$<1, the mean Nusselt number was very small, but in the region of $Gr/Re^2\geq1$, the mean Nusselt number was constant.
