A Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is characterized by multi-hop wireless connectivity, frequently changing network topology with mobile nodes and the efficiency of the dynamic routing protocol plays an important role in the performance of the network. In this paper, the performance of five routing protocols for MANET is compared by using OPNET modeler: AODV, DSR, GRP, OLSR and TORA. The various performance metrics are examined, such as packet delivery ratio, end-to-end delay and routing overhead with varying data traffic, number of nodes and mobility. In our simulation results, OLSR shows the best performance in terms of data delivery ratio in static networks, while AODV has the best performance in mobile networks with moderate data traffic. When comparing proactive protocols (OLSR, GRP) and reactive protocols (AODV, DSR) with varying data traffic in the static networks, proactive protocols consistently presents almost constant overhead while the reactive protocols show a sharp increase to some extent. When comparing each of proactive protocols in static and mobile networks, OLSR is better than GRP in the delivery ratio while overhead is more. As for reactive protocols, DSR outperforms AODV under the moderate data traffic in static networks because it exploits caching aggressively and maintains multiple routes per destination. However, this advantage turns into disadvantage in high mobility networks since the chance of the cached routes becoming stale increases.

Mean flow fields in the near wake of a square cylinder have been studied experimentally using a Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). Ensemble-averaged velocity fields are successfully measured fur the square cylinder wake including the reverse flow region which arises many difficulties in accurate measurement by using conventional techniques, Experiments are performed at two free stream velocities of U$\_$$\infty$/ = 1.27m/s and 3.03m/s. The corresponding Reynolds numbers based on the free-stream velocity and cylinder diameter are 1600 and 3900, respectively. The intensity of free-stream turbulence is less than 1%, the blockage ratio (D/H) is 6.6% and the aspect ratio (W/D) is 40. The effect of Reynolds number on the near wake of a square cylinder has been investigated by the global mean velocity and instantaneous velocity fields. The most striking feature is that the length of the recirculating region increases with increasing Reynolds number, which turns out totally reverse trend compared with those observed in the circular cylinder wake at the same range of Reynolds number. Fer the case of higher Reynolds number, the mean velocity data agree well with those of relevant existing data obtained at much higher Reynolds numbers, which reflects the general aspect of sharp-edged bluff body wake.

Curved bridges are composed of curved members which have certain curvatures, comparing to straight bridges. Therefore, their behavior is quite different from one of the straight bridges, mainly due to the geometric characteristics of the curved bridges. In this paper, the curved bridges consisted of the single box-girder span are investigated to study the effects of negative reaction forces. The parameters considered in this study are span lengths, angles of curvature, and the number of shoes. Midas/civil computer program was used for the analysis of the curved bridges. The analysis results show that negative reaction forces are not created with one shoe installed. When two shoes are provided, on the other hands, the uplift forces are developed at the inside shoe. It is also concluded that the increasing ratio of negative reaction forces becomes larger, as the angles of curvature increase, and the elongation of span lengths turns out to increase the magnitudes of the uplift forces.
We analyzed the structural parameters of a guiding coil and a feeding loop for wireless power transfer in mid-range. The length, diameter, and number of turns of the guiding coil are the major factors to determine the resonant frequency. The separation distance between the coil and the loop also affects the power transfer ratio. This scheme has a greater transmission efficiency than using dipoles.

The matrix-type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) using YBCO thin film consists of the trigger and current-limiting parts. We fabricated the matrix-type SFCL with the integrated current limiting modules. we carried out the experiment of matrix-type SFCL with the integrated current limiting modules connected in series or parallel. We saw current characteristics due to ratio of change the shunt resistance and turns. We confirmed that the difference of critical current between superconducting units was decreased by increment of current flowing into the reactor which applied the magnetic field into the superconducting units..

The hysteresis characteristics of flux-lock reactor, which is an essential component of flux-lock type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL), was investigated. The hysteresis loss of iron core in flux-lock type SFCL does not happen due to its winding's structure especially in the normal state. From the equivalent circuit for the flux-lock type SFCL and the fault current limiting experiments, the hysteresis curves could be drawn. Through the hysteresis curves together with the fault current level due to the inductance ratio for the 1st and 2nd windings, the increase of the number of turns in the 2nd winding of the flux-lock type SFCL had a role to prevent the iron core from saturation.
This topic presents an inductor short turn testing. From the rudimentary principles, the quality factor(Q) decreases due to inductor short turn. Frequency response varies because of the variation of circuit inductance and resistance. In general, short turn circuit testing is performed by comparing the ratio of an inductance and resistance of inductor in that particular circuit. An alternative method can be done by considering the response of second order circuit which can give both dynamic and static testing, whereas static testing give an error results not more than 2 turns. For dynamic testing, the result is more accurate, which can test fur the short turn number form 1 turn onward.
In this paper, we investigate how to do resource allocation to guarantee a minimum user data rate at low signaling overhead in multi-cell orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) wireless systems. We devise dynamic resource allocation (DRA) algorithms that can minimize the QoS violation ratio (i.e., the ratio of the number of users who fail to get the requested data rate to the total number of users in the overall network). We assume an OFDMA system that allows dynamic control of frequency reuse factor (FRF) of each sub-carrier. The proposed DRA algorithms determine the FRFs of the sub-carriers and allocate them to the users adaptively based on inter-cell interference and load distribution. In order to reduce the signaling overhead, we adopt a hierarchical resource allocation architecture which divides the resource allocation decision into the inter-cell coordinator (ICC) and the base station (BS) levels. We limit the information available at the ICC only to the load of each cell, that is, the total number of sub-carriers required for supporting the data rate requirement of all the users. We then present the DRA with limited coordination (DRA-LC) algorithm where the ICC performs load-adaptive inter-cell resource allocation with the limited information while the BS performs intra-cell resource allocation with full information about its own cell. For performance comparison, we design a centralized algorithm called DRA with full coordination (DRA-FC). Simulation results reveal that the DRA-LC algorithm can perform close to the DRA-FC algorithm at very low signaling overhead. In addition, it turns out to improve the QoS performance of the cell-boundary users, and achieve a better fairness among neighboring cells under non-uniform load distribution.

In this study, we propose a small high voltage power supply, which uses a half-bridge ZCS resonant and Cockroft-Walton circuit as its ESP (Electrostatic Precipitator). This power supply transfers energy from the ZCS resonant inverter to the step-up transformer. The transformer secondary is then applied to the Cockroft-Walton circuit for generating high voltage as a discharging source of electrodes. It is highly efficient because its amount of switching losses are reduced by virtue of the current resonant half-bridge inverter, and also due to the small size, low parasitic capacitance in the transformer stage owing to the low number of winding turns of the step up transformer secondary combined with the Cockroft-Walton circuit. Using this power supply, experiments have been carried out as a function of the switching frequency and duty ratio in order to investigate the smoke removal characteristics. From these results, the best operational condition is obtained at the switching frequency of 9 kHz and the duty ratio of 50% in this ESP.

Heat transfer distributions and friction factors in square channels (3.0 ${\times}$ 3.0 cm) with twisted tape inserts and with twisted tape inserts plus interrupted ribs are respectively investigated. The rib height-to-channel hydraulic diameter ratio, $e/D_h$, is kept at 0.067 and test section length-to-hydraulic diameter ratio, $L/D_h$ is 30. The square ribs are arranged to follow the trace of the twisted tape and along the flow direction defined as axial interrupted ribs. The twisted tape is 0.1 mm thick carbon steel sheet with diameter of 2.8 cm, length of 90 cm, and 2.5 turns. Two heating conditions are investigated for test channels with twisted tape inserts and rib turbulators: (1) electric heat uniformly applied to four side walls of the square duct, and (2) electric heat uniformly applied to two opposite ribbed walls of the square channel. Results show that the twisted tape with interrupted ribs provides a higher overall heat transfer performance over the twisted tape with no ribs.
