  • It is widely known that the level of fire resistance of wooden structure is determined by a charring rate or charring depth, and these are adopted for fire design. In this study, specimens of domestic larch column with a lamination wooden type were prepared and the fire resistance properties such as the charring depth, load ratio and the specific charring rate suggested by EN Code investigated. Test results showed that as expected, the weakest part was the corner of the column, so that the charring depth of the corner was deeper than the other parts of the column. For the load ratio less than 0.9, it had little effect on the charring depth.

  • Objective: This study was conducted to obtain an objective index that can be quantified and used for establishing an animal welfare certification standard in Korea. For this purpose rumen pH, ruminating time, milk yield, milk quality, and blood components of cows reared in farms feeding high forage level (90%) and farms feeding low forage level (40%) were compared. Methods: Data on rumen pH, rumination time, milk yield, milk fat ratio, milk protein ratio, and blood metabolism were collected from 12 heads from a welfare farm (forage rate 88.5%) and 13 heads from a conventional farm (forage rate 34.5%) for three days in October 2019. Results: The rumination time was longer in cattle on the welfare farm than on the conventional farm (p<0.01), but ruminal pH fluctuation was greater in the cattle on conventional farm than the welfare farm (p<0.01). Conventional farms with a high ratio of concentrated feed were higher in average daily milk yield than welfare farms, but milk fat and milk production efficiency (milk fat and milk protein corrected milk/total digestible nutrients) was higher in cattle on welfare farms. Blood test results showed a normal range for both farm types, but concentrations of total cholesterol and non-esterified fatty acid were significantly higher in cows from conventional farms with a high milk yield (p<0.01). Conclusion: The results of this study confirmed that cows on the animal welfare farm with a high percentage of grass feed had higher milk production efficiency with healthier rumen pH and blood metabolism parameters compared to those on the conventional farm.

  • Innovative pharmaceutical company certification support policies have been implemented since 2012. This study was conducted to identify the perceptions of stakeholders and related experts on the formation process and policy satisfaction of this policy, and to identify factors that explain policy satisfaction. The survey was conducted by e-mail and facsimile of the pharmaceutical companies, universities, and government - affiliated research institutes. The effective response rate was 38.4% (61/159). As a result of the cross-sectional survey, the perception of policy necessity was the most positive among the policy formation process, and all the other stages and perception of policy satisfaction were at the medium level. As a result of examining the influential factors related to the variables of the respondents' personal variables and the policy formation process, it is confirmed that the factors that have the greatest influence on the policy satisfaction are the perception of the performance of the certified company. Also, perceptions of appropriateness and follow - up ability were similar in magnitude of impact on policy satisfaction. This study can be used as a basic data to systematically and effectively improve the certification and support policies of innovative pharmaceutical companies based on the consumer's perception. However, due to limitations such as being carried out at the beginning of policy implementation, verification and supplementation are necessary through further research.

  • This study aimed to quantify the causes of Korean airline pilots' medical disqualification during 2015~2019. The airline pilot disqualification data is important for grasping what health problems are common to pilots and establishing preventive health care programs. We were able to obtain data from official sources at the Korean Civil Aviation Authority during 2015~2019. The total number of pilots was 29,095, and the number of disqualified professional pilots in Korea was 36. Looking at airline pilots' status by age group, the 40s were the highest with 38%. However, the disqualification rate per 1,000 pilots was the highest in the 60s, at 4.6. When the different diagnostic categories classified the disqualification results, cardiovascular disease was the highest with 12 cases (33.3%), followed by eye disease, malignancy, neurology, psychiatry, otorhinolaryngology, and respiratory disease. The total number of pilots during 2015~2019 was 29,095, and the overall disqualification rate of 1.6/1,000 pilots.

  • In this study, flow analysis of single, double, and triple filter systems of cylindrical structures was performed to analyze the flow characteristics of each filter. As a result of the flow analysis of the filter system, the number of filters and the pressure drop rate tend to be proportional to each other. It was found that the area passing through the inside of the filter had almost the same pressure. The maximum pressure drop rate of the triple filter system was about 14.9% for the forward-flow and about 12.4% for the reverse-flow. It was determined that the performance of the filter was stable within 20% of the allowable pressure drop rate of the filter system, which is the standard presented to the Korea Water Technology Certification Institute(KWTCI). In the future, a study on the decompression characteristics of the filter system according to the effect of the arrangement interval and filter density of the triple filter will be conducted.

  • Purpose: The purpose of the research is to find difficulty levels of LEED credits in each LEED level based on credits achievement in order to find important of LEED-HC credits to gain LEED-HC. Methods: The individual credits of LEED-HC v.2009 scorecards from USGBC website are analyzed. With achieved scores rate of LEED credits per each Level, all credits are reassembled in 4 different ranges (A~D); easy (A), easy-moderate (B), moderate-hard (C) and hard (D) to achieve scores. Results: 1) Achieved point rate in LEED-HC specific credits are low. These credits need to be reviewed carefully. 2) In 88 projects, 37 projects are gained Silver level which is more than projects in certification level. In order to encourage to gain LEED-HC level, Average Achieved rate to earn Certificate level needs to be risen. 3) Credits in range D rarely affect to gain platinum level. EAc1 (24 points) are critical to gain Silver and Gold level. However, EAc1 points are not effective to achieve Certificate level. Implications: This research will provide a fundamental back data to set up Korean Green building rating system for Healthcare.

  • 'Formosa' plums were picked at three maturity stages according to skin redness, treated with $1{\mu}L{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 1-MCP at $10^{\circ}C$ for 24 h and then stored for 21 days at $10^{\circ}C$. Ethylene production, respiration rate, firmness, color, TSS, TA, and ethanol concentration were determined. Total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, and antioxidant capacity were determined periodically by separating the flesh from the peel. Ethylene production and respiration rate were strongly inhibited in all stages of the 1-MCP-treated fruit, while ethylene production dramatically increased in all stages of non-treated fruit until 11 days after harvest, after which it decreased until the end of the experiment. The respiration rate of the stored fruit increased for 11 days in stages 1 and 2 and for 7 days in stage 3 and decreased after. 1-MCP-treated fruit in all stages showed delay in fruit quality changes such as firmness, TA, skin color, and ethanol concentration, but non-treated fruit did not. Total phenolic contents, total flavonoid contents and antioxidant capacity of 'Formosa' plums were not affected by 1-MCP treatment or maturity stage. However, those values were higher in the peel than in the flesh.

  • Ginseng has a unique production system that is different from those used for other crops. It is subject to the Ginseng Industry Act., requires a long-term cultivation period of 4-6 years, involves complicated cultivation characteristics whereby ginseng is not produced in a single location, and many ginseng farmers engage in mixed-farming. Therefore, to bring the production of Ginseng in line with GAP standards, it is necessary to better understand the on-site practices of Ginseng farmers according to established control points, and to provide a proper action plan for improving efficiency. Among ginseng farmers in Korea who applied for GAP certification, 77.6% obtained it, which is lower than the 94.1% of farmers who obtained certification for other products. 13.7% of the applicants were judged to be unsuitable during document review due to their use of unregistered pesticides and soil heavy metals. Another 8.7% of applicants failed to obtain certification due to inadequate management results. This is a considerably higher rate of failure than the 5.3% incompatibility of document inspection and 0.6% incompatibility of on-site inspection, which suggests that it is relatively more difficult to obtain GAP certification for ginseng farming than for other crops. Ginseng farmers were given an average of 2.65 points out of 10 essential control points and a total 72 control points, which was slightly lower than the 2.81 points obtained for other crops. In particular, ginseng farmers were given an average of 1.96 points in the evaluation of compliance with the safe use standards for pesticides, which was much lower than the average of 2.95 points for other crops. Therefore, it is necessary to train ginseng farmers to comply with the safe use of pesticides. In the other essential control points, the ginseng farmers were rated at an average of 2.33 points, lower than the 2.58 points given for other crops. Several other areas of compliance in which the ginseng farmers also rated low in comparison to other crops were found. These inclued record keeping over 1 year, record of pesticide use, pesticide storages, posts harvest storage management, hand washing before and after work, hygiene related to work clothing, training of workers safety and hygiene, and written plan of hazard management. Also, among the total 72 control points, there are 12 control points (10 required, 2 recommended) that do not apply to ginseng. Therefore, it is considered inappropriate to conduct an effective evaluation of the ginseng production process based on the existing certification standards. In conclusion, differentiated certification standards are needed to expand GAP certification for ginseng farmers, and it is also necessary to develop programs that can be implemented in a more systematic and field-oriented manner to provide the farmers with proper GAP management education.
