Background: Resection of the radial head is a surgical indication for comminuted radial head fracture in which internal fixation is inaccessible. Some complications from the surgery can alter the function of the patient's elbow. The objective of this study was to assess functional outcome of the elbow after resection of the radial head. Methods: A retrospective longitudinal study was performed with patients who underwent radial head resection between 2008 and 2018. Elbow function was assessed by the Mayo Elbow Performance Index (MEPI) for 11 patients comprising three women and eight men. The mean follow-up was 47.6 months. The mean age was 41±10.3 years. Results: Nine patients had a stable and painless elbow. The mean extension-flexion arc was 97.73°±16.03°. The mean values of pronation and supination were 76.8° and 74.5°, respectively. The mean MEPI score was 83.2 points, and restoration of overall function was achieved in 81% of the cases. Poor function was noted in one in 10 that presented with a terrible triad. Conclusions: Resection of the radial head restored elbow functionality at a rate of 81%, which was a good outcome for patients.

Eskilson's g-function, a well-known geothermal heat response factor, is widely used for sizing of the ground heat exchangers. Unlike the Eskilson's original model that uses common temperature boundaries for all boreholes and along the borehole height, an analytical-solution-based g-function uses a uniform heat transfer rate over the height with variable heat transfer rates for respective boreholes. To evaluate the impact of such a boundary difference on g-function and the design length, a simple case study was carried out on the cooling-dominant commercial buildings. The results show that the design lengths given by the boundary of uniform heat transfer rates are longer than those given by Eskilson's boundary for all cases tested. The difference in length is more important when the bore field is composed of more boreholes with shorter length of each borehole.
The pump control valve is a butterfly valve that has an eccentric rotating axis. It is not only used as a butterfly valve to control the flow rate or pressure, but also as a check valve to prevent backward flow. A new design method of eccentric rotating axis is proposed to design the valve. The height of the rotating axis is determined through flow field analysis. A general purpose of computational fluid dynamics software system, Fluent is used to simulate the fluid flow. Flow field analysis is performed for various heights of the rotating axis and different opening angles of the valve. A characteristic function is defined for estimating the flow characteristics based on the results of flow field analysis. The characteristic function is defined in order to determine the height of the rotating axis. An optimization problem with a characteristic function is formulated to determine the amount of eccentricity. The height of the Totaling axis of the valve is determined through solving the optimization problem.
Optical system has some optical and mechanical constraints. The constraints should be preserved in optimization of optical system. For the purpose, the constraints are combined with the merit function by using Lagrange's undetermined multipliers. We propose an active optimization control by using the fact that the errors of constraints are corrected with higher priority than the other errors of the merit function. In this control, the errors which have large contribution to the merit function are converted into constraints. At that time, if the errors are corrected at once, the optimization will be unstable because of their non-linearity. Hence we introduce a target rate which represents a fraction of error to be corrected, and the errors are corrected progressively. An optimization program was developed on the bases of the proposed active control, and applied to design a photographic lens system. By using the active control, we could get better results compared with conventional damped least squares method. ethod.
In this study, we developed a $PM_{10}$ forecasting model using DNN and Membership Function, and improved the forecasting performance. The model predicts the $PM_{10}$ concentrations of the next 3 days in the Seoul area by using the weather and air quality observation data and forecast data. The best model(RM14)'s accuracy (82%, 76%, 69%) and false alarm rate(FAR:14%,33%,44%) are good. Probability of detection (POD: 79%, 50%, 53%), however, are not good performance. These are due to the lack of training data for high concentration $PM_{10}$ compared to low concentration. In addition, the model dose not reflect seasonal factors closely related to the generation of high concentration $PM_{10}$. To improve this, we propose Julian date membership function as inputs of the $PM_{10}$ forecasting model. The function express a given date in 12 factors to reflect seasonal characteristics closely related to high concentration $PM_{10}$. As a result, the accuracy (79%, 70%, 66%) and FAR (24%, 48%, 46%) are slightly reduced in performance, but the POD (79%, 75%, 71%) are up to 25% improved compared with those of the RM14 model. Hence, this shows that the proposed Julian forecast model is effective for high concentration $PM_{10}$ forecasts.
Purpose: The present study aimed to analyze the effect of trauma-related shock on myocardial function in the early stages of trauma through transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) findings. Methods: We performed a retrospective review and analysis of the medical records of patients aged ≥18 years who were evaluated by TTE within 2 days of admission for trauma-related shock (n=72). Patients were selected from a group of 739 patients admitted with trauma-related shock between January 2014 and December 2016. Results: The incidence rate of myocardial dysfunction in the left ventricle (LV) was 6.8% (5/72), with rates of 7.7% (4/52) in the thoracic injury group and 5.0% (1/20) in the non-thoracic injury group. In the diastolic function of LV, relaxation abnormality was present in 55.8% (29/52) of patients in the thoracic injury group and 50% (10/20) of patients in the non-thoracic injury group. Conclusions: This study may suggest that traumatic shock without thoracic injury may influence myocardial function in the early stages after trauma. Therefore, evaluation of myocardial function may be needed for patients experiencing shock after trauma, regardless of the presence of thoracic injury.

This paper discusses condition based preventive replacement for deteriorating systems. The system continuouslydeteriorates in time and fails at any deterioration level which is always monitored, It is replaced at failure or atsome deteriorated level preventively before failure. The deterioration process is represented by a Weibulldistribution with a time-linear scale parameter. The cost rate function is formed considering replacement costand opportunity loss cost and deterioration dependent failure distribution, If the system has an increasingdeterioration dependent failure rate, the optimal deterioration level for preventive replacement can be determinedfrom minimizing the cost rate. An illustrative example is given for a Weibull deterioration dependent failuredistribution.

This paper proposes a new motion estimation algorithm which takes into account the rate-distortion relation in encoding motion compensated error images. The proposed algorithm is based on a new block-matching criterion which is the function of not only the mean squared block-matching error but also the code length for the entropy coded motion vector. The proposed algorithm optimizes the trade-off between the bit rate for motion compensated error images and the bit rate for the motion vectors. Simulation results show that in the motion compensated image coding the proposed motion estimator improves the overall performance by 0.5 dB when compared to the motion estimator which uses MSE only.

Due to the increasing of the number of cars and bad road conditions, car accidens are increasing every you in Korea. When a person meets a car accident, it is necessary for him to analyze and determine whether applying insurance or not, because standard discount rate and special increasing rate change with accident types and the amount of accident expenditure. When we consider insurance rate that includes more then ten elements, we need a decision making, In this paper, S insurance company investigated previous car causers in 1988, 1989, 1990 to 1996 with 600,000 real data. We investigate probability density functions and cumulative distribution functions for each year using ARENA software. We can apply the results of this study to various accidents that occur under uncertainty in our life. I hope that this paper contribute to strengthening competitive power of companies and developing new insurance rate systems in future.

The survival rate of the OSSTEM GS II Implant 1 year after serving the prosthetic function in 2 domestic and foreign medical institutes was 97.57%; the success rate was 95.7%, and the average alveolar bone resorption was 0.24mm(n=389). In particular, the alveolar bone resorption occurred differently according to the placement location as well as whether or not the patient underwent bone grafting operation, but the implant s length and diameter did not have significant impact on alveolar bone resorption.
