  • The alkali volatilization of TV screen glass melts with various $K_2$O/R$_2$O mole fraction was investigated by dependence of weight loss on time. The melt conductivity was also determined to evaluate relative alkali diffusion in melts. Based on the results of time dependence and compositional dependence of volatilization combining the results of conductivity, the rate determining process of the volatilization was suggested. From the viewpoint of the production and the application of TV glass it was also discussed a correlation between the dependence of properties on $K_2$O/R$_2$O and the present commercial composition.

  • This paper aims, first to analyse the profitability of coastal passenger ships deployed on both subsidized and non-subsidized routes, ie competitive routes, in Korea, second to evaluate them by route, by ship type, and by ship size, and finally to identify whether the ships deployed on subsidized routes are justifiable to receive subsidy from the government. They are followed by the analyses on the profitability of all ships on the coastal routes and their dependence rate of subsidy. The research covers the period of 1995-1997. The research results say that 35% of the total subsidized routes has more than 90% of subsidy dependence rate and that some monopolized routes among subsidized ones with moderate rate of profitability need to be crossed out from the list of subsidy beneficiary. In addition, some ships deployed are not appropriate type in terms of characteristics of route and traffic. One of implications drawn from this study is that the government has to set up a watchdog to monitor subsidized routes, which enables to make them competitive and save the budget.

  • Study on spin-rotation relaxation of nuclear spins located on a methyl group can reveal valuable dynamic information related to the internal rotation of methyl group itself. Toward this end we have measured methyl carbon-13 spin-rotation of methyl group itself. Toward this end we have measured methyl carbon-13 spin-rotational relaxation rate in toluene and 2-chloro-p-xylene over the temperature range of 179-363K. To interpret the temperature dependence of measured spin-rotational relaxation rate we have revised the temperature dependence of measured spin-rotational relaxation rate we have revised the expression derived thus far by other authors and reproduced experimental data on the basis of the newly derived expression. The results confirmed that our expression leads to better agreement with experimental data than the previous one over observed temperature range, especially at high temperature.

  • In order to clarify the solidification mechanism of Al-Si alloy, Mushy Degree of Eutectic Solidification (MDE) and Centerline Feeding Resistance (CFR) were systematically studied by casting with various compositions of $Al-(6{\sim}18%)$ Si alloys into several kinds of molds having different cooling rates. The results are as follows: 1. CFR% increases slightly as solute concentration increases, but decreases remarkably as the cooling rate of the mold increases, that is, the composition dependence of the alloys has more effect on the change of CFR% than that of the mold cooling rate. 2. The composition dependence of MDE value has the same tendency as that of Degree of Eutectic Solidification (DES). MDE value within the range of hypereutectic composition is larger than that of hypoeutectic and it represents the maximum value at eutectic composition. The higher the cooling rate is, the less the MDE value is.

  • Zirconium pyrithione complex was prepared by reaction of sodium-pyrithione solution and zirconyl chloride solution. The physico-chemical properties of the complex was examined by means of IR, XRD, DSC and NMR. And the stability of Zr-complex was investigated on the basis of accelerated stability analysis under conditions of temp. elevation, UV radiation and pH dependence. The result indicates that the ratio of the ligand to metal in Zr-pyrithione complex was determined 4:1, and its stability constant was $4.643{\times}10^4$. The rate order of decomposition of the complex was apparent first-order reaction of which rate constant and the decomposition rate was not only accelerated by effect of heat and UV radiation but was catalyzed by specific acid-base catalysis considered the pH dependence for the hydrolysis of the complex and the suspension was most stable over the range pH 4-8 indicating that solvent catalysis is the primary made of reaction in this region.

  • Silicon nitride films were chemically deposited on silicon substrates by reacting SiCl$_{4}$ and NH$_{3}$ in a nitrogen atmosphere at 700~1100 .deg.C. The deposition rate increased rapidly with deposition temperature upto about 1000 .deg.C, and became less temperature dependent above this temperature. The etch rate of films in buffered HF solution decreased, with an increase of deposition temperature, and a heat treatment at a temperature higher than that of the deposition considerably reduced the etch rate. It indicates that the heat treatment resulted in a densification of the films. Surface charge density of 3~4 * 10$^{11}$ /cm$^{2}$ was determined from the C-V characteristics of MNS diode, and it was also found that surface charge density depended on deposition temperature, but not film thickness. The current-voltage characteristics displayed a logI-V$^{1}$2/ dependence in the temperature range of 300~500.deg.K. Measurement of the slope of this characteristics and its dependence on temperature and bias polarity suggest that conduction in sili con nitride films arises from the Poole-Frenkel mechanism.

  • Two methods of identifying smokers with high nicotine dependence, the heaviness of smoking index (HSI) and number of cigarettes per day (CPD) were compared with the Fagerstrom test for nicotine dependence (FTND). The HSI, CPD and the FTND were administered to 316 adult Malaysian male, daily smokers aged between 25-64 years old in the Malaysian NCD Surveillance-1 Survey using a two-stage stratified random sampling of enumeration blocks and living quarters, via an interview based on a validated questionnaire. The cut-off point for classification of high nicotine dependence on the HSI was a score of four or higher, and for the heavy smoking category, smoking more than 20 cigarettes per day. Classification using each method was compared with classification by the FTND (score of six or more) as the reference standard. Sensitivity, specificity and kappa statistics for concordance between both measures and the FTND were evaluated. The HSI gave a similar prevalence rate of high nicotine dependence as the FTND. There was substantial agreement between the HSI and the FTND (kappa=0.63.), with moderate sensitivity (69.8%) and high specificity (92.5%). However, prevalence of high nicotine dependence using the CPD was 7% lower than the FTND. The heavy smoking category also showed fair agreement with the FTND (kappa=0.45) and moderate sensitivity (67.0%), but specificity was high (86.9%). The findings indicate that the HSI can be used as an alternative to the FTND in screening for high nicotine dependence among daily smokers in large population-based studies, while CPD may not be a suitable alternative to the FTND.

  • The last step in the photocycle of photoactive yellow protein (PYP) is a spontaneous recovery of the dark state from the active state in which the p-coumaric acid chromophore is thermally isomerized, concomitantly with the deprotona- tion of the chtomophore and the refolding of the protein moicty. For the purpose of understanding the mechanism of the thermal back-isomerization, we have investigated the rate-determining step by analyzing mutant PYPs of Met100, which was previously shown to play a major role in facilitating the reaction (1). The mutation to Lys, Leu, Ala, or Glu decelerated the dark state recovery by 1 to 3 three orders of magnitude. By evaluating temperature-dependence and pH-dependence of the kinetics of the dark state recovery, it was found that the retardation by mutations resulted from elevation of the activation enthalpy ( H$\^$┿/) and that the pKa of the chromophore, which was affected by the mutation, is in a linier correlation with the amplitude of the rate constants. It was, therefore, deduced from the correlation that the free energy for crossing the activated state in the dark recovery process is proportional to the free energy for the deprotonation of the chromophore, identifying the rate-determining step as the deprotonation of the chromophore. • The Educational Restitution Rate is an important parameter that determines the quality of university education. This paper analyzed data from 148 private universities over the 10 years from 2009 to 2018 using data mining techniques in Korea. A significant causal relationship is detected in the fixed effect model as a result of the panel estimation. And the scale of faculty expansion and fund management, which are the university evaluation indicators, and the size of basic funds, respectively, have a positive effect on the ERR, which is within the confidence interval. In the analysis, the more private universities improve the tuition dependence rate, the more decisively positive affecting ERR. As a result of nonparametric regression estimation, when the faculty expansion ratio is reinforced, the effect of economies of scale is detected in some sections, the improvement of the tuition dependence rate, and the result value is generated through the improvement that results are derived at a certain point in time. We hope that the university based on this study can be a basic Indicators for the diagnosis of basic competencies and policy of student-centered education.
