  • Factors affecting regeneration of different Rubus varieties (blackberry, raspberry and their hybrid) were examined and a reliable regeneration system was established. Media for stock plant maintenance were tested; different explants and media were investigated to find the best circumstances for the regeneration. The effect of the commonly used antibiotics was studied to determine the most suitable one for selection of the transformants. We found that both MS and LS media supplemented by $20\;gL^{-1}$ sucrose are suitable for the stock plant maintenance. The optimal hormone content for the stock plants is $0.125\;mgL^{-1}$ 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) with $0.01\;mgL^{-1}$ indole-3- butyric acid (IBA). The highest regeneration rate was observed on medium containing MS salts with B5 vitamins complemented with glucose, sucrose, maltose, $10\;gL^{-1}$ each, supplemented with benzylaminopurine riboside (BAR) ($2\;mgL^{-1}$) and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) ($0.1\;mgL^{-1}$). The regenerated shoots appeared directly from the cut edges, without callus phase. Hygromycin and geneticin proved to be good selection agents for the Rubus explants, but due to their severe effect on the tissues we propose to use marker-free constructions for the transformation.

  • In this paper, we implemented a smart mirror that helps users to measure the results before the procedure by reflecting various hairstyles on the head. When the camera is used to capture a face in real time and recognize the face, the stored hair image is uploaded to provide a virtual image. In addition, the high production cost, which is a problem of the existing smart mirrors, was reduced by using Raspberry Pi, Open CV, and half mirror film, and various functions were implemented through touch control. It is also designed to provide information such as weather, calendar and time.

  • This study involved the production of specialty lager beers supplemented with Korean red ginseng extracts or Bokbunja (Korean black raspberry, Rubus coreanus Miquel) juice. The effects of the Korean red ginseng extracts or Bokbunja juice on the specific gravity, pH, yeast viability, free amino nitrogen content, reducing sugar content, color, alcohol content, turbidity, and sensory evaluation were evaluated. The alcohol content of the beers containing the extracts or juice were within the standard alcohol amounts (3.63-4.0%, v/v). The pH values of the three samples containing Bokbunja juice were lower than that of the control values. The sensory evaluation showed that the addition of Bokbunja juice was superior to the ginseng extracts, and the optimal addition time was before or after the secondary fermentation. These data indicate that the flavor and odor of the Bokbunja juice are more persistent than that of the ginseng extracts.

  • Steady exercise or walking exercise is helpful for the treatment of chronic diseases or cancers. In this paper, I presented a smart poster to enable the patients to exercise while moving between the smart posters, dynamically, in order to provide better exercise effect to them. It can be a new form of exercise prescription that combines exercise with walking using smart posters. The personalized exercise prescription is downloaded from the management server in real time when the patient approaches, and induces the patient's exercise and walking. In addition, the smart poster helps patient to move to other posters in order to induce more walking exercise. To achieve this, I proposed a transfer protocol that autonomously exchanges session information between smart posters in this paper. Moreover, the smart poster based on Raspberry was implemented to verify validity of this protocol, and an experiment was conducted to measure the request and response time between smart posters in the implemented environment. In the experiment, when the other poster sent the message requesting the exercise session 100 times and received the response message, the 95 percentage of received messages had the response time within 0.05 seconds.

  • Elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) can achieve relatively good security with a smaller key length, making it suitable for Internet of Things (IoT) devices. DNA-based encryption has also been proven to have good security. To develop a more secure and stable cryptography technique, we propose a new hybrid DNA-encoded ECC scheme that provides multilevel security. The DNA sequence is selected, and using a sorting algorithm, a unique set of nucleotide groups is assigned. These are directly converted to binary sequence and then encrypted using the ECC; thus giving double-fold security. Using several examples, this paper shows how this complete method can be realized on IoT devices. To verify the performance, we implement the complete system on the embedded platform of a Raspberry Pi 3 board, and utilize an active sensor data input to calculate the time and energy required for different data vector sizes. Connectivity and resilience analysis prove that DNA-mapped ECC can provide better security compared to ECC alone. The proposed method shows good potential for upcoming IoT technologies that require a smaller but effective security system.

  • Recent advances have been made in technology of sensor devices. Accordingly, the size of devices has been miniaturized, to which diverse functions can be applied. On top of that, the devices use image processing technology to observe circumstances of users' living spaces and detect risk situations saved in database. In case of detecting risk situations, M2M environment is constructed so that the information can be delivered to other communication devices to immediately raise an alarm. This paper aims to introduce solutions that construct M2M environment by using color detection algorithm of OpenCV and Raspberry Pi, raise an alarm to users in case of fire, and provide information on follow-up measures for it.

  • The leaves of three plant species, such as soybean, raspberry, and kudzu, exposed to hydrogen fluoride was collected in an area surrounding an emission source where the release accident occurred. The ultrasonic-assisted extraction and analysis of fluoride by ion chromatography was carried out. The mean concentration of fluoride in the leaves of three plant species exposed to hydrogen fluoride was $5,409{\pm}1,198mg\;F/kg\;dry\;wt$ and $788{\pm}339mg\;F/kg\;dry\;wt$, respectively. The mean fluoride concentration in ambient air were estimated to be $2.36{\pm}0.65mg/m^3$ ($2.89{\pm}0.79ppm$) and $0.35{\pm}0.15mg/m^3$ ($0.43{\pm}0.19ppm$) in exposed and unexposed sites, respectively. It seems likely that the passive monitoring using plant leaves could identify with respect to plant risk by fluoride in atmosphere.

  • Web presence is one of the key issues for extensive deployment of Internet-of-Things (IoT). An obstacle to overcome for Web presence is relatively low computing power of IoT devices. In this paper, we present implementation of an IoT platform based on Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP) which is a web transfer protocol proposed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) for the low performance IoT devices such as Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) nodes and micro-controllers. To qualify the performance of CoAP-based IoT system for such an application as smart grid, we designed a test platform consisting of Raspberry Pi2, Kmote WSN node and a desktop PC. Using open source softwares, CoAP was implemented on top of the platform. Leveraging the GET command defined at CoAP specification, performance of the system was measured in terms of round-trip time (RTT) from web application to the Kmote sensor node. To investigate abnormal cases among the test results, hop-by-hop delays were measured to analyze resulting data. The average response time of CoAP-based communication except the abnormal data was reduced by 23% smaller than the previous research result.
