Rapid Dynamic Response Flyback AC-DC Converter Design

  • A constant voltage AC-DC converter based on digital assistant technology is proposed in this paper, which has rapid dynamic response capability. The converter operates in the PFM (Pulse Frequency Modulation) mode. According to the load state, the compensation current produced by the digital compensation module was injected into the CS pin to adjust the switching pulse width dynamically and improve the dynamic response. The control chip is implemented based on NEC $1{\mu}m$ 5V/40V HVCMOS process. A 5V/1.2A prototype has been built to verify the proposed control method. When the load jumps from idle to heavy, the undershoot time is only 7.4ms.

  • The purpose of this study was to create a cyber-training & education program in response to the needs of skippers and crews operating tug-barges within Korean coastal waters and the rapid changers in this industry. Skippers and crews are inclined to operate tug-barges on the basis of experience rather than information. It is not easy to provide useful information whenever they want or to drill them in safety management skills, because of their passive attitude toward education and the few opportunities that exist. In order to increase educational opportunities, efficiency and motivation, the authors have developed this program which consists of a 'tug bridge resource management module, risk perception training module, accident case module, operating module and navigation module', and are hoping that this program will enhance and strengthen all tug-barge operations. We are also putting all our energies into designing up to date animation programs and developing new scenarios concerning the method of evaluation and certification distribution.

A PID Control of Supply Duct Outlet Air Temperature in Personal Environment Module

  • The work presented here is a design and an implementation of PID control system to regulate a supply duct outlet air temperature in PEM (Personal Environment Module). In PEM, the air is heated to the required temperature while it flows through the supply duct without any mixing chamber. This makes the control of air temperature in PEM difficult. A simulation is done first to understand the relationship between a temperature distribution in working area, flow rate and the outlet air temperature of PEM. Then a linear dynamic model of heating process in PEM is derived. P, PD and PID type control systems, to provide the rapid response without overshoot and saturation in heater command voltage, are designed using a linear model obtained. Experimentally obtained data shows that the control system satisfies the design criteria and works properly in controlling the supply duct outlet air temperature.

  • When oil tankers, large passenger ships and cargo ships sink under the sea owing to various maritime accidents, the residual cargo oil or fuel oil in the such vessels could pose direct risk to factor for the marine environment and it require safe and rapid removal. Although domestic and foreign salvage companies are adopting various recovery methods and technologies with customizations according to each site during recovery operations studies on reasonable assessment modules for the operation process are relatively insufficient. In this study, the data from trapped-oil recovery operations performed at different site conditions were collected and analyzed in order to designed an operation assessment module, define the operational process steps in terms of preparation, implementation and completion, and derive key factors for each detailed process. Subsequently, the module was designed in such a way as to construct performance indicators to assess these key factors. In order to exclude subjective opinions from the assessment as much as possible, the assessment each item was constructed with indicators based on data that could be evaluated quantitatively and its usefulness was verified by applying the module to the trapped-oil recovery operation cases. We expect this the method and the technology assessment module for the trapped-oil recovery operation on sunken vessels will help to verify the adequacy of the trapped-oil recovery such operation before or after. Furthermore, it is expected that the continuous accumulation of assessment data and feedback from past or future operation cases will contribute toward enhancing the overall safety, efficiency and field applicability of trapped-oil recovery operation.

Development of Human Detection Technology with Heterogeneous Sensors for use at Disaster Sites (재난 현장에서 이종 센서를 활용한 인명 탐지 기술 개발)

  • Recently, a special purpose machine with two manipulators and quadruped crawler system has been developed for rapid life-saving and initial restoration work at disaster sites. This special purpose machine provides the driver with various environmental recognition functions for accurate and rapid task determination. In particular, the human detection technology assists the driver in poor working conditions such as low-light, dust, water vapor, fog, rain, etc. to prevent secondary human accidents when moving and working. In this study, a human detection module is developed to be mounted on a special purpose machine. A thermal sensor and CCD camera were used to detect victims and nearby workers in response to the difficult environmental conditions present at disaster sites. The performance of various AI-based life detection algorithm were verified and then applied to the task of detecting various objects with different postures and exposure conditions. In addition, image visibility improvement technology was applied to further improve the accuracy of human detection.

  • In this paper, the speed control system of induction motor was proposed using vector control algorithm and space voltage vector PWM method to improve the dynamic performance of Induction motor. The control system is composed of the PI controller for speed control and the current controller using space voltage vector PWM technique. The high-speed calculation and processing for vector control is carried out by TMS320C31 digital signal processor and IGBT module. The proposed scheme is verified through digital simulations and experiments for 3.7[kw] induction motor and shows good dynamic performance.

  • Hybrid fault current limiters (FCL) have been researched at Yonsei University. The hybrid FCL has advantages such as having a rapid response to a sudden fault situation and a fast recovery time from a quench. It consists of an asymmetric HTS coil, a switching module, and a bypass reactor. The asymmetric HTS coil is wound with two different types of HTS wires in an opposite direction so that it has nearly zero inductance at the superconducting state. When the quench occurs at the fault state, a strong magnetic field is generated from the asymmetric coil because of different quench characteristics of two HTS wires, and then a repulsive force is induced in the switching module. The force opens the switch and the fault current is pushed into the bypass reactor. In this research, we analyzed the cause of the repulsive force and confirmed, experimentally and computationally, that the magnitude of a repulsive force is varied by changing the gap distance between the asymmetric coil and the switching module. By using the FEM simulation, we calculated the repulsive force with respect to the gap distance and verified that the effect of the gap distance. Then, short circuit test was carried out to confirm the correct operation of the fast switch.

Development of Active MPPT Algorithm of PV system Considering Shadow Influence (그림자 영향을 고려한 PV 시스템의 능동형 MPPT 알고리즘 개발)

  • This paper presents the active maximum power point tracking(MPPT) control of the photovoltaic(PV) module integrated converter(MIC) system considering the shadow influence. Conventional perturbation and observation(PO) and incremental conductance(IC) are the method finding MPP by the continued self-excitation vibration. The MPPT control is unable to be performed by rapid output change affected by the shadow. To solve this problem, the active MPPT in which the step value changes by output change is presented. In case there are the solar radiation, a temperature and shadow influence, the presented algorithm treats and compares the conventional control algorithm and output error. In addition, the validity of the algorithm is proved through the output error response characteristics.

  • This paper presents the new maximum power point tracking(MPPT) control of the photovoltaic(PV) module integrated converter(MIC) system considering the shadow influence. The output characteristics of the solar cell is a nonlinear and affected by a temperature, the solar radiation and influence of a shadow. Particularly, MIC system is very sensitive to the shadow influence because the capacity is very small. In order to increase an output and efficiency of the solar power generation, the maximum power point(MPP) obeying control are necessary.
