  • A core technological base to provide enhanced data rates required by 5G mobile wireless communications is the improved bandwidth efficiency using massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission. MIMO transmission requires the channel estimation using the channel state information reference signaling (CSI-RS) and appropriate beamforming, thus the design of the codebook defining proper beamforming vectors is an important issue. In this paper, we propose a multi-rank codebook based on the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) matrix, by utilizing statistical properties of the channel generated by the spatial channel model (SCM). The proposed method includes a structural change of the precoding matrix indicator (PMI) by considering the phase difference distributions between adjacent antenna elements, as well as the selected codevector characteristics of each transmission layer. Performance gain of the proposed method is evaluated and verified by making the performance comparison to the 3GPP standard codebooks adopted by Long-Term Evolution (LTE) systems.

  • Noise reduction has been actively studied in the digital image processing and recently, block-based denoising algorithms are widely used. In particular, a low rank approximation employing WNNM(Weighted Nuclear Norm Minimization) and block-based approaches demonstrated the potential for effective noise reduction. However, the algorithm based on low rank a approximation generates the artifacts in the image restoration step. In this paper, we analyzes the image content using the STFT(Short Time Fourier Transform) and proposes an effective method of minimizing the artifacts generated from the conventional algorithm. To evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme, we use the test images containing a wide range of noise levels and compare the results with the state-of-art algorithms.

  • Jikgeum(woven with supplementary golden wefts) hyungbae(rank badge) of danryung(official uniform) excavated from Im Backryung'tomb($1498{\sim}1546$) of the Joseon dynasty($1392{\sim}1910$) at Goyang, Gyunggi-Do in 2007, was in a critical condition because of serious collapse of substrate in metal thread. For conservation of hyungbae, metal thread was examined by different scientific methods(Light Microscope, Scanning Electron Microscope and Energy Dispersive X-Rray Spectrometry(SEM-EDS), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FT-IR)). Analytical data showed that metal thread was gilt membrane strip composed of gold leaves and proteinaceous substrate which was probably parchment. To protect collapse of substrate, 1% solution of Paraloid B-72 was infilterated into substrate for consolidation of substrate and it was adhered to warp of fabric in hyungbae, before wet cleaning. After wet cleaning, the most of the gold leaves were restored, which was confirmed by both the examination with the naked eye and the microscopic examination.

  • Due to the characteristics of 3 ${\times}$ 3 Latin square design which is composed of two block effects and one main effect, powers of rank transformed statistic for testing the main effect are very superior to powers of parametric statistic without regard to the type of population distributions. By order of when all three effects are fixed, when on one block effect is random, when two block effects are random, the rank transform statistic for testing the main effect shows relatively high powers as compared with the parametric statistic. Further when the size of main effect is big with one equivalent size of block effect and the other small size of block effect, powers of rank transformed statistic for testing the main effect demonstrate excellent advantage to powers of parametric statistic.

  • Using the Lorenz-95 simple model, which can simulate many atmospheric characteristics, we compare the performance of ensemble strategies such as bred vectors, the bred vectors rotated (to be orthogonal to each bred member), and the Ensemble Transform Kalman Filter (ETKF). The performance metrics used are the RMSE of ensemble means, the ratio of RMS error of ensemble mean to the spread of ensemble, rank histograms to see if the ensemble member can well represent the true probability density function (pdf), and the distribution of eigen-values of the forecast ensemble, which can provide useful information on the independence of each member. In the meantime, the orthogonal bred vectors can achieve the considerable progress comparing the bred vectors in all aspects of RMSE, spread, and independence of members. When we rotate the bred vectors for orthogonalization, the improvement rate for the spread of ensemble is almost as double as that for RMS error of ensemble mean compared to the non-rotated bred vectors on a simple model. It appears that the result is consistent with the tentative test on the operational model in KMA. In conclusion, ETKF is superior to the other two methods in all terms of the assesment ways we used when it comes to ensemble prediction. But we cannot decide which perturbation strategy is better in aspect of the structure of the background error covariance. It appears that further studies on the best perturbation way for hybrid variational data assimilation to consider an error-of-the-day(EOTD) should be needed.

  • In this letter, we present a new algorithm for the harmonic and percussive separation of jazz music. Using a short-time Fourier transform and nonnegative matrix factorization, the signal is decomposed into rank components. Each component is then split into harmonic and percussive parts using masks calculated based on their tonalities. Finally, the harmonic and percussive parts are separated after applying the masks and a summation. We evaluate the algorithm based on real audio examples using both objective and subjective assessments. The proposed algorithm performs well for the separation of harmonic and percussive parts of jazz excerpts.

  • This paper proposes a novel method to detect unauthorized copies of digital images. This copy detection scheme can be used as either an alternative approach or a complementary approach to watermarking. A test image is reduced to 8$\times$8 sub-image by intensity averaging, and the AC coefficients of its discrete cosine transform (DCT) are used to compute distance from those generated from the query image, of which a user wants to find copies. Copies may be Processed to avoid copy detection or enhance image quality. We show ordinal measure of DCT coefficients, which is based on relative ordering of AC magnitude values and using distance metrics between two rank permutations, are robust to various modifications of the original image. The optimal threshold selection scheme using the maximum a posteriori (MAP) criterion is also addressed.

  • An output feedback stabilizing controller far non-minimum phase nonlinear systems is presented. We first perform the standard input-output linearization of the system and then transform the zero dynamics into a special normal form in which the antistable part is not affected by the stable part and the antistable part is given in approximately linear form. Under the assumption that the nonlinear system satisfies the observability rank condition, we can design an observer f3r the extended system that is made of the augmentation of a chain of integrators. The proposed output feedback stabilizing controller can then be designed by combining the observer and the state feedback controller.

  • With the proliferation of the Android malicious applications, malware becomes more capable of hiding or confusing its malicious intent through the use of code obfuscation, which has significantly weaken the effectiveness of the conventional defense mechanisms. Therefore, in order to effectively detect unknown malicious applications on the Android platform, we propose DroidVecDeep, an Android malware detection method using deep learning technique. First, we extract various features and rank them using Mean Decrease Impurity. Second, we transform the features into compact vectors based on word2vec. Finally, we train the classifier based on deep learning model. A comprehensive experimental study on a real sample collection was performed to compare various malware detection approaches. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms other Android malware detection techniques.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of electroencephalogram (EEG) biofeedback training for emotion regulation and brain homeostasis on anxiety about COVID-19 infection, impulsivity, anger rumination, meta-mood, and self-regulation ability of late adolescents in the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic situation. Methods: A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. The participants included 55 late adolescents in the experimental and control groups. The variables were evaluated using quantitative EEG at pre-post time points in the experimental group. The experimental groups received 10 sessions using the three-band protocol for five weeks. The collected data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk test, Wilcoxon rank sum test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, t-test and paired t-test using the SAS 9.3 program. The collected EEG data used a frequency series power spectrum analysis method through fast Fourier transform. Results: Significant differences in emotion regulation between the two groups were observed in the anxiety about COVID-19 infection (W = 585.50, p = .002), mood repair of meta-mood (W = 889.50, p = .024), self-regulation ability (t = - 5.02, p < .001), self-regulation mode (t = - 4.74, p < .001), and volitional inhibition mode (t = - 2.61, p = .012). Neurofeedback training for brain homeostasis was effected on enhanced sensory-motor rhythm (S = 177.00, p < .001) and inhibited theta (S = - 166.00, p < .001). Conclusion: The results demonstrate the potential of EEG biofeedback training as an independent nursing intervention that can markedly improve anxiety, mood-repair, and self-regulation ability for emotional distress during the COVID-19 pandemic.
