  • This paper presents a thermodynamic analysis of heat pump system using water as a heat source and heat sink. The primary object in this study is the optimization of exergetic efficiency. Two different systems, 2-stream and 1-stream system, are analyzed in detail. Mass flow ratio (the ratio of mass flow rate of water through evaporator to that through condenser) is identified as the most important parameter to be optimized. It is shown that there exists an optimum mass flow ratio to maximize exergetic efficiency. The variation of optimum exergetic efficiency of 2-stream system is quite small and the value lies between 0.2∼0.23 for the range of investigation in this study. However, far better performance can be obtained from 1-stream system. This means considerable irreversibilities are generated through condenser of the 2-stream system. The effects of adiabatic efficiency of compressor-motor unit on the overall system performance are also examined in the analysis.

  • In this study, the effects of the power transmission units on the rotational accuracy are investigated experimentally in a hydrostatic spindle. The effects of warm up time, unbalancing and the position of measuring sensor are pre-examined for the determination of measuring conditions. The misalignment of the power transmission units and the vibration excited by the fluctuation of belt are considered as the dominant parameters of error motion. The variation and scatter of run out at the range of 0 to 3,000rpm in rotational speed are appropriated for the camparison of availabilities of the transmission units to precision spin- dles.

  • The nickel0zinc allot depositions have been studjen in ammonium chloridw added chloride baths to fine out the effects of ultrasonic irradiation for the electrodeposition processes. The compositions of deposited alloys, the current efficiencies, corrosion resistance and brightness in various conditions of electrodeposition were investigated, in the range of ultrasonic irradiation of 50,500 and 1,000kc/s respectively. The results obtained are as follows; 1. the ratio of nikel to zinc in the deposit increased according 시 the ammonium chloride concentration in irradiated baths. 2. The current efficiencies became also higer in the irradiated bath. 3. Ammonium ions in solution seem to retard formation of zinc hydroxide. 4. The corrsion resistance and brightness of the deposits are dependent upon nickel content of deposits which ranges 10-18%(wt)nickel in the irradiated baths and 11-15%(wt)in ninirradisted baths. 5. The corrosion resistance and brightnes of the deposited are appreciably better in the irradiated baths than in non-irradiated bath with the mole ratio of 3.4(NH+4/Ni+++Zn++).

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the variation of physical properties and adsorption capacity after regeneration of Granular Activated Carbon (GAC). It was found that the loss rate of regenerated carbon was related to the usage time of GAC. The correlations between iodide number and loss rate also determined. Effective size and uniformity coefficient for regenerated GAC were within a similar range compared to virgin GAC. This result indicated that the function as media is recovered. Although iodide number and specific surface area for regenerated GAC were not completely recovered compared to that of virgin GAC, cumulative pore volumes of regenerated GAC were increased. Removal efficiency of organic matter in regenerated GAC was resulted the same or slightly higher than that of virgin GAC. This result indicates that the number of mesopore responsible for removal of organic matter was increased after regeneration.

  • The dyeability of poly(lactic acid) [PLA] with a range of commercial disperse dye was examined and compared to that of poly(ethylene terephthalate) [PET] in addition to the colour and fastness of the resultant dyeings. A screening exercise in which twenty dyes of differing energy types and chemical classes were applied to PLA revealed a substantial variation between the dyes in terms of dye uptake (12-88 % at 4 % o.w.f.). Nine dyes exhausted above 70 % and were selected for further study, which involved comparison of shade and fastness of PLA dyeings with those of the corresponding PET dyeings. Differences in shade depended on hue while wet fastness of each of the PLA dyeings was either the same or 0.5-1.0 point lower than its PET counterpart. In all but one case, dye photostability in PLA was found to be very similar to that in PET. Dye build-up profiles on PLA were also investigated and from these results mixtures of compatible dyes identified.

  • This paper presents the system design of permanent magnet linear synchronous machine with double-side PM mover and slotless iron-cored stator in the required speed and thrust. in this paper, the design of manufacturing motor is optimized by characteristics of motor parameters with the variation of PM size and coil turns. And, the permissible operating range of manufactured motor by determination of base speed and base thrust according to switching scheme of DC link voltage are offered. Finally, the results of analytical solutions are verificated by finite element analysis and experiment.

  • The elongation of the chain length at 2'position of aminothiazolylacetamido group of cephalosporin antibiotics was achieved. The derivatives with elongated side chain at 2'position were successfully synthesis and their in vitro activities were evaluated. It is indicated that there is an optimum range of the chain length in order to exhibit higher biological activities. This result could open a possibility for the development of the cephalosporin antibiotics with higher activities by further variation of the substituents at other positions. The cephalosporin derivatives with a simple (relatively non-functionalized) side chain as well as with a linear extended side chain were also prepared. Low activities of these derivatives led to a conclusion that either simple (non-functionalized) change or linear elongation of the side chain does not enhance the antibacterial activities.

  • In this paper, the oblique water-entry impact of a vehicle with a disk cavitator is studied experimentally and numerically. The effectiveness and accuracy of the numerical simulation are verified quantitatively by the experiments in this paper and the data available in the literature. Then, the numerical model is used to simulate the hydrodynamic characteristics and flow patterns of the vehicle under different entry conditions, and the axial force is found to be an important parameter. The influences of entry angle, entry speed and cavitator area on the axial force are studied. The variation law of the force coefficient and the dimensionless penetration distance at the peak of the axial force are revealed. The research conclusions are beneficial to engineering calculations on the impact force of a vehicle with a disk cavitator over a wide range of water-entry parameters.

  • This thesis investigated the behavior of super structure by varying the factors such as the change of pile rigidity, the characteristics of soil and the constraint condition of support. The results of this study are as follows; 1. The pile rigidity in the Fig 3.3 computed by the rotating deformed plane method becomes the elastic range at approximately about 5.1 m (D : 1.0 m) below the ground level. This result is consistent with the previous study that the pile deformation occurs approximately 3 to 6 times pile diameter from the pile head. 2. The values of forces and deformations for the structure-pile system in Y-direction appeared larger than that in X-direction, since the pile rigidity and constraint condition of support were changed as shown Fig.3.5 to 3.8. 3. The current practice for the analysis of structure-pile system has not considered the variation of pile rigidity and the constraint condition of support. So, the analysis of structure-pile system with large difference in super-structure rigidity must includes these factors in both X and Y directions.

  • An experimental study has been carried out to investigate overheating of oil and bearing housing during pump operation. This problem is of particular interest in the pre diction of lifetime and failure of pump. Transient variation of oil temperature as well as bearing housing temperature is measured to study the effect of oil viscosity, oil amount, and discharge flow rate of pump. It is found that optimal oil quantity as well as proper viscosity of oil is required to keep the safe temperature level of oil and bearing housing in a pump. The oil temperature at steady state is almost not affected by discharge flow rate in the range of discharge flow rates considered in the present study.
