A Magnetic Energy Recovery Switch Based Terminal Voltage Regulator for the Three-Phase Self-Excited Induction Generators in Renewable Energy Systems

  • Distributed generation systems (DGSs) have been getting more and more attention in terms of renewable energy use and new generation technologies in the past decades. The self-excited induction generator (SEIG) occupies an important role in the area of energy conversion due to its low cost, robustness and simple control. Unlike synchronous generators, the SEIG has to absorb capacitive reactive power from the outer device aiming to stabilize the terminal voltage at load changes. This paper presents a novel static VAR compensator (SVC) called a magnetic energy recovery switch (MERS) to serve as a voltage controller in SEIG powered DGSs. In addition, many small scale SEIGs, instead of a single large one, are applied and devoted to promote the generation efficiency. To begin with, an expandable mathematic model based on a d-q equivalent circuit is created for parallel SEIGs. The control method of the MERS is further improved with the objective of broadening its operating range and restraining current harmonics by parameter optimization. A hybrid control strategy is developed by taking both of the stand-alone and grid-connected modes into consideration. Then simulation and experiments are carried out in the case of single and double SEIG(s) generation. Finally, the measurement results verify that the proposed DGS with SVC-MERS achieves a better stability and higher feasibility. The major advantages of the mentioned variable reactive power supplier, when compared to the STATCOM, include the adoption of a small DC capacitor, line frequency switching, simple control and less loss.

다수 PV 시스템 배전계통 연계 시 개선된 전압조정 방법 (An Improved Voltage Regulation Method in Power Distribution System Interconnected Multiple PV Systems)

  • 현재의 배전계통의 전압은 변전소에서 단방향 조류를 고려하여 LCD에 의한 전압조정방법으로 ULTC 변압기의 탭을 변환하여 공급전압을 적정범위 내에서 유지되도록 운전하고 있다. 그러나 현재의 배전계통 운용은 소용량에서 대규모 용량에 이르기까지 다양한 용량의 PV 시스템이 배전계통에 연계되어 운전되는 것을 반영하지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 때문에 다수의 PV 시스템이 계통에 연계되어 양방향 조류가 발생하고 이로 인해 연계점의 전압변동이 발생하여도 이를 효과적으로 조정하지 못하여 계통의 전압이 적정범위 내에서 운용되지 못하는 경우가 발생할 수 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 다수 PV 시스템의 연계에 따른 양방향 조류의 발생을 고려하고 연계점의 전압변동에 따른 계통의 전압을 효과적으로 제어할 수 있도록 실시간 감시가 이루어지는 PV 시스템의 특징을 이용하고 기존의 LDC 전압조정방법을 개선하여 PV 시스템 연계 시에도 변전소에서 계통의 전압을 적정범위 내에서 조정할 수 있는 개선된 전압조정방법을 제안하였다.

A 32nm and 0.9V CMOS Phase-Locked Loop with Leakage Current and Power Supply Noise Compensation

  • This paper presents two novel compensation circuits for leakage current and power supply noise (PSN) in phase locked loop (PLL) using a nanometer CMOS technology. The leakage compensation circuit reduces the leakage current of the charge pump circuit which becomes more serious problem due to the thin gate oxide and small threshold voltage in nanometer CMOS technology and the PSN compensation circuit decreases the effect of power supply variation on the output frequency of VCO. The PLL design is based on a 32nm predictive CMOS technology and uses a 0.9V power supply voltage. The simulation results show that the proposed PLL achieves a 88% jitter reduction at 440MHz output frequency compared to the PLL without leakage compensator and its output frequency drift is little to 20% power supply voltage variations. The PLL has an output frequency range of $40M{\sim}725MHz$ with a multiplication range of 11023, and the RMS and peak-to-peak jitter are 5ps and 42.7ps, respectively.

서라운드시스템을 위한 가상 음상정위 알고리즘 (Virtual Sound Localization algorithm for Surround Sound Systems)

  • In this paper, we propose a virtual sound localization algorithm which improves the sound localization accuracy and sound color preservation for two channel and multi-channel surround speaker layouts. In conventional CPP laws, the sound direction is different from the panning angle and the sound color is different from real sound source especially when the speakers are spread out widely. To overcome this drawback, we design a virtual sound localization algorithm using directional psychoacoustic criteria (DPC) and sound color compensator (SCC). The analysis results show that in the case of the proposed system, the sound direction is the same as the panning angle in the audible frequency range and the sound color is less deviated from a real sound source than the conventional CPP law. In addition, its performance is verified by means of subjective tests using a real sound source.

  • In this paper, a simple structured feedback compensation scheme for a electro-hydraulic servo system to keep the response characteristics unchanged regardless of the load variation is proposed. In electro-hydraulic servo system, servovalve is most important control element. But the relation between input corrent and output flowrate of the servovalve has properties as follows; firstly, in spite of constant input current, output flowrate decreases as load pressure increases, secondly, according to frequency response of typical servovalve, the characteristics of gain and phase shift is something like 2'nd order system. Load pressure feedback compensation method has been applied to eliminate the first influence, the second influence has been improved by phase lead compensation method. As a result of above compensation methods, regardless of variation load condition, spring and inertia load, the compensation scheme has been verified to be effective within the range of frequency less than 25Hz by static response and dynamic response in time domain and frequency domain through experiments.

  • Square beam type piezoelectric vibrating gyro is developed for the measurement of angular velocity, which is compact, small in size and mass- producible. It features that three pieces of piezoelectric ceramics and bonded onto one face of equilateral square bar type gyro head. Two of them are used as sentuators which drive the gyro head and measure Coriolis force. The third piece is used for the feedback signal in order to resonate the gyro head and measure Coriolis force. The third piece is used for the feedback signal in order to resonate the gyro head with its fundamental natural frequency. Matching two fundamental natural frequencies in the gyro head with its driving frequency is found critical in the design of vibration gyro. Calibration results show that the vibrating gyro developed has the dynamic characteristics of first-order system within the frequency range of interest, which can be easily compensated by a lead compensator.

  • The recent growth in the use of impactive and nonlinear loads, electronic devices sensitive to power quality has caused many power quality problems. Recently, in power system, not only the reliability of the power supply but also the DVR(Dynamic Voltage Restorer) are being studied more and more. The DVR is a series compensator which can instantaneously compensate a voltage variation in supply side, and is a more effective than a existing UPS(Uninterruptible Power Supply) which can be only used in limited range of loads such as single load. Hence, in this paper, a study of inverter side L-C filter output Voltage for DVR is discussed.

  • SVC(Static Var Compensator) is commonly installed with conventional mechanically switched existing reactor or capacitor banks for wide range voltage control. The frequencies of switching of external banks have a great impact on the quality of voltage, but is limited since the life time of the external banks depends severely on the number of switching. So it is a complete multi-objective nonlinear optimization problem with conflicting objectives. This paper presents a method to determine the optimal coordination of SVC and external banks using genetic algorithm based on the multi-objective criteria. Optimal dead band and delay time of external banks is sought for reliable and efficient operation

  • This study describes a hydraulic fluid property compensator under the various operating conditions. Because hydraulic fluid systems have much more excellent features than other control systems, they are used in many fields. However, the characteristics of hydraulic fluid are changed due to various operating conditions. This phenomenon is called uncertainty. Especially, bulk modulus is considered as the most dominant parameter in this study. Under the wide range of temperature and pressure, bulk modulus is changed. In order to overcome the uncertainty, $H_{\infty}$ technique will be used for this study. Spectral factorization, model-matching problem and controller parametrization are also applied to achieve the desired robust control action. Designed controller using the $H_{\infty}$ technique, is adopted for the hydraulic fluid valve-motor system.

능동음향진동제어를 위한 센서와 액추에이터의 동위치화 연구 (Collocation of Sensor and Actuator for Active Control of Sound and Vibration)

  • The problem considered in this paper is about the collocation of sensor and actuator for the active control of sound and vibration. It is well-known that a point collocated sensor-actuator pair offers an unconditional stability with very high performance when it is used with a direct velocity feedback (DVFB) control, because the pair has strictly positive real (SPR) property. In order to utilize this SPR characteristics, a matched piezoelectric sensor and actuator pair is considered, but this pair suffers from the in-plane motion coupling problem with the out-of$.$plane motion due to the piezo sensor and actuator interaction. This coupling phnomenon limits the stability and performance of the matched pair with DVFB control. As a new alternative, a point sensor and piezoelectric actuator pair is also considered, which provides SPR property in all frequency range except at the first resonance in very low frequency. This non-SPR resonance could be minimized by applying a phase lag compensator.
