  • This paper attempts to extract the fundamental dynamic properties, i.e. natural frequencies, damping ratios of the 48 m-long, $20^{\circ}$ skewed real bridge with PSC girders wrapped by a steel plate. The forced vibration test is achieved by mounting 12 Hz-capacity of artificial oscillator on the top of bridge deck. The acceleration histories at the 9 different locations of deck surface are recorded using accelerometors. From this full-scaled vibration test, the two possible resonance frequencies are detected at 2.38 Hz and 9.86 Hz of the skewed bridge deck by sweeping a beating frequency up to 12 Hz. The absolute acceleration/energy exhibits much higher in case of higher-order twist mode, 9.86 Hz due to the skewness of bridge deck which leads asymmetric situation of vibration. This implies the test bridge is under swinging vertically in fundamental flexure mode while the bridge is also flickered up and down laterally at 9.86 Hz. This is probably by asymmetric geometry of skewed deck. A detailed 3D beam-shell bridge models using finite elements are performed under a series of train loads for modal dynamic analyses. Thereby, the effect of skewness is examined to clarify the lateral flickering caused by asymmetrical geometry of bridge deck.

  • In this study, various railroad geotechnical informations were standardized. The standardization was progressed by classifying the informations as basic properties, railroad vibrations and design plans. Basic informations included soil properties(27), dynamic property(1), geophysical prospecting(1), and elastic wave prospecting(4). Specification for 'human exposure to whole-body vibration' was used to construct the information of railroad vibration. And in the case of the information of design plan, the way to save by graphic files was chosen. Thus standardized informations examined their application by setting up database. Entity-Relation(E-R) model was used in the design of database and by this, the database system was constructed. This database system will be able to serve the performance enhancement of railroad system.

  • An interest is increased of environment and energy so, importance on railroad high energy efficiency is magnified. And after Gyeong-bu High speed rail is completed, share rate freight transportation of railroad is expected to be gradually increased due to expand investment for railroad and operate mainly freight transportation on convention line. Therefore a research on DMT freight cars is necessary under like this situation. In paper, we developed analysis model for DMT freight car and DMT freight was analyzed numerically using VI-Rail in each condition of railway having different curve and carried out vibration analysis on curving using developed analysis model. And we carried out test on driving stability follow changing curve radius then measure against UIC code 518.

  • The elevated railway station, above which a train is passing, is vulnerable to noise and vibration compared to other station types. To better identify the vibration characteristics of the elevated railway station, the transferred vibration from approach bridges should be analyzed. In this paper, through experiments and simulations, the transfer characteristics of the vibration from approach bridges is analyzed. The study structure is Geomgok station and the anaylses are conducted using ABAQUS three dimensional numerical model. To identify the change in the transfer characteristics for various bearing types, the analyses are performed considering mechanical properties of bearing for railway bridges. The measurement is performed using the accelerometers attached to the approach bridges and the station structure along the passing path of trains.

  • Turnout system is a mechanical installation enabling trains to be guided from one track to another which is consists of point blades, common crossing and guard rail etc. These structural feature causes vibration, noise and damages while railroad car wheel is passes by. A tilting train is a train with a tilting mechanism that enables increased speed on regular railroad tracks. The aim of this paper is to study a characteristics of the shock-vibration and noise of tilting and existing train passes by turnout systems. To analyze and assesment, noise and vibration measurement was carried out at the Naesu-station of Chungbuk-line which equipped with cast manganese crossing and built-up crossing and Illo-station of Honam-line which equipped with cast manganese crossing.

  • Generally, countermeasures for the train-induced vibration are divided into the measures at the source, propagation path and receiving object. Among these measures the countermeasure at the source location is the most active and effective one in the field of railroad. In this study, the effectiveness of each anti-vibration measures at the track(source location) such as elastic rail fastener, ballast mat were evaluated through the comparison of acceleration level, insertion loss at the installed locations of each measures. As result of field measurement of vibration at the railroad track supporting structures and on the ground nearby the structures, elastic rail fastener showed vibration reduction effect of 4.5 ∼7.3㏈ on the concrete slab, 1.6∼3.7㏈ on the ground with the train operation speed of 80km/hr. In the case of ballast mat, the vibration reduction effect at the concrete slab and on the ground were 11.9∼13.3㏈ and 6.1∼7.6㏈, respectively.

  • This study was carried out to investigate and alleviate the vibration problem of commercial high-speed trains. First, the measurement of the carbody vibration was performed, in order to determine the vibration level of the high-speed train. The measurement result showed that the vibration level of the driver cab was higher than that of the passenger car and that the vibration became bigger toward the trailing end of the train. The vertical vibration of the driver cab and passenger car was larger than the transverse vibration, and the maximum value of the vibration in the ballast section was larger than that in the concrete section. A dynamic analysis was carried out to improve the vibration of the KTX-Sancheon train. The results of the analysis showed that it is necessary to reduce the vibration of the driver cab and both ends of the passenger cars. To reduce the vibration of the driver cab, it was recommended that the stiffness of the secondary coil spring be reduced and the damping coefficient of the secondary vertical damper be increased. It was found that the failure of the suspension system could be the origin of the vibration problem of the high-speed train. The proper management of wheel wear plays an important role in the improvement of the operation efficiency and reduction of the carbody vibration of high-speed trains, and research is underway to change the present wheel profile to increase the mileage between wheel turning.

  • Recently, medium or slight earthquakes was occurred in the Korea Peninsula and seismic design is considered seriously in the railroad facilities as case of other civil engineering facilities. In this study, it selected the Seongnam-Yeoju railroad 6th section and seismic analysis was accomplished. Specially, unlike existing seismic analysis using the artificial earthquake and the real earthquake, seismic analysis using a seismic vibration and the train vibration was accomplished. 1-D and 2-D ground response analysis of the railroad bed and 3-D Finite element analysis in the bridge connection section of high landfill slope was accomplished. Also, slope stability analysis and the evaluation of liquefaction was accomplished.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a noise reduction device installed at the top of noise barrier for further decreasing of noise level of 400 km/h class high-speed railroad. For this, the frequency spectrum of 400 km/h class high-speed railroad was analyzed through the field noise test, and the tuning frequency was determined to design a noise reduction device. The noise reduction device was designed to have noise reduction performance of at least 3 dB(A) using the prediction method(2D BEM) and through the laboratory test with the prototype. Finally, the outdoor test showed that this device could decrease noise level of 400 km/h class high-speed railroad even more than 3 dB(A).

  • This study is concerned with static and sinusoidal disturbance rejection for a single periodic input disturbance with known period. In the area of active elimination of a disturbance force, the control input should have two different kinds of gains: one is to deliver a stable control and the other is a force component to cancel the external disturbance force. In this paper we employ a simple state feedback control law to make the balance beam stable and employ a linear observer to estimate the states which represent the external disturbance force components. Simulation results verify our proposed control method to reject a static and sinusoidal disturbance force.
