The study for the matters to be considered for running of High Speed Train at Conventional Railroad (기존철도에서 고속차량의 주행을 위한 고려사항에 관한 연구)

  • The KTX is now operating to the commercial purpose at Gyeong-Bu high speed railroad and Ho-Nam conventional railroad to be started on April, 2004. The trains were not found any problems at high speed railroad, but at Ho-Nam line were known to be have the few problems due to operating no planed. In this report should be studied for the effects of the lateral forces and wheel bases, brake distances etc., that high speed trains should be considered on curve running at the conventional railroad. The studied contents for operating at the conventional railroad shall be checked for the technical requirements from design stage, and the trains should be supplied and manufactured to car system to have the good running performances.

  • In this study, the block section length of the given area has been analyzed to improve the headway which caused by the mixed operation of high speed trains and normal trains on the electrified railway of Dongdaegu to Busan. After establishing the average length of block section and the adjustable average length of block section of Dongdaegu to Busan, it is possible to perform the headway simulation regarding the signal system based on the established length. Although high speed trains as well as low speed trains including freight trains operate together, the experimental results indicate that the modification of the block section length shows the possibility of the improvement of headway.

  • Electric power trains receive electric power from overhead cables via a pantograph system. Power collector system in trains increase the cross section of tunnel and require a massive coreless filter reactor in propulsion inverter because of the power disturbance by contact loss phenomenon of a train. In this paper we proposed a wireless train which can run to next station with charging energy of ultra-capacitor module block. We designed DC-DC converter to charge and discharge ultra-capacitor modules by using Next Train running test results and confirm the feasibility of the proposed system through simulation.

  • Recently, a double deck train is considered as the one of solutions for efficient and comfortable railroad transportation systems on busy lines without any big investment on existing railroad infra-structures in many countries. However, prior to the operations of double deck trains on existing lines, careful investigations should be performed since the double deck trains have big cross sections, high mass centers and no enough spaces for mounting electric equipments. In this paper, several operational cases of double deck trains in other countries have been reviewed for preparing double deck train operations in Korea.

Fatigue Life Evaluation of Motor Block Bracket Units for KTX-Sancheon Trains (KTX-산천 열차용 모터 감속기 고정대의 피로 수명 평가)

  • In this study, fatigue life of the motor block bracket units for KTX-Sancheon trains was assessed. Design evaluation for railway structures was performed based on the UIC 566 regulation, and test and evaluation of fatigue life in welded parts was performed in accordance with standard ERRI B 12/RP17 and ERRI B 12/RP60. The actual vehicle dynamic stress testing was executed in KTX-Sancheon service line with the service operating speed. The dynamic stress was measured with commercial data acquisition system (MGC plus). The cumulative damage was evaluated by applying standard BS 7608 - Class F and cycle counting was used rain-flow counting method. As a result, the motor block bracket units for KTX-Sancheon trains was designed to fit the regulation and the safety of fatigue life for 30 years, assuming that KTX-Sancheon trains travels 600,000km annually, were confirmed under current operating conditions.

  • This paper proposes a simulation method of train control system to increase railroad transportation capacity in the Seoul Subway. Comparing with the conventional fixed block system, a new train operation method of "moving block system" shows a more capability of same railroad. A graphic simulation program is developed for application of moving block system to Seoul subway train control system. The result of the simulation program shows a shorten headway i.e. a more dense operation of trains and a higher efficiency of railroad with the suggested moving block system.

  • In this paper, traction system of a double deck train were designed to examine technical reasonableness for driving on the ground and underground. Double deck trains operated in other countries were also considered. For designing the electric devices, two types of accelerations and electric devices arrangements which are based on the current subway system were considered.

  • KTX (Korea Train eXpress) is the first high-speed train operated in Korea and its highest speed reaches 300 km/h. Korean high-speed trains are mostly operated on the railroads exclusively designed for high-speed trains, but the sections of Seoul~Gwangmyeong, nearby of Daejeon station and Dongdaegu are operated on the existing tracks having the speed less than 150 km/h. With this paper, we'd like to analyze the lateral force that occurs between the wheels and the rail when high-speed trains were operated on the existing track section to suggest an appropriate driving speed for high-speed trains. As the rigid wheel base of the high-speed train is 3m which is about 50% longer than normal vehicles, it works as an advantage for high-speed driving. However, as the lateral force becomes higher than normal vehicles when driving on curves, plans to reduce wear-outs on the wheels are required.

  • This paper presents exact Autotransformers(ATs)-fed AC electric Railroad system modeling using constant current mode far locomotives. An AC electric railroad system is rapidly changing single-phase load, and at a feeding substation, 3-phase electric power is transferred to paired directional single-phase electric power. As the train moves along a section of line between two adjacent ATs. The proposed AC electric railroad system modeling method considers the line self-impedances and mutual-impedances. The constant current mode model objectives are to calculate the catenary and rail voltages with the loop equation. When there are more than one train in the AC electric railroad system, the principle of superposition applies and the only difference between the system analyses for one train. Finally, this paper shows the general equation of an AC electric railroad system, and that equation has no relation with trains number, trains position, and feeding distance.
