In this work, an independent-load friction wedge model was developed using the ADAMS/View program to predict the performance of a freight vehicle with a bogie employing a 3-piece friction wedge. The friction wedge model can generate friction according to lateral and vertical directions of the bolster. The developed friction wedge model was applied to the ADAMS/Rail vehicle model, and results of the dynamic analysis showed a critical speed of 210km/h. In the linear safety analysis, it was confirmed that the lateral and vertical limit of acceleration of the vehicle were satisfied based on UIC518. In the 300R curve line, the application speed was 70km/h, which was satisfied with the limit acceleration of the car-body and bogie based on UIC518. Also, the developed model satisfied the wheel loading, lateral force and derailment coefficient of "The Regulations on Safety Standards for Railway Vehicles"

A trial run of locally-developed tilting train has been in process on Chungbuk line since the test vehicle was first produced. For the system stabilization, interface verification among the systems including track, structure, catenary and signaling system, not to mention the rolling stock, is very crucial. In the area of wayside structure, the stability of track structure and train run shall be evaluated through the review of impact by increased speed by developed train on track structure. The study thus was intended to evaluate the impact on track while a tilting train is running the curve section, which is vulnerable to accelerated train speed. The analysis of tilting train test running the part of Chungbuk line and Honam line was conducted to identify the impact on existing track performance by tilting train. To identify the movement behavior of each part of track while tilting train, high speed train and traditional train (Mugunghwa and freight train) were running the existing line, wheel load, lateral wheel load, rail bending stress, vertical and lateral displacement of rail and vertical displacement of sleeper were compared and analyzed so as to evaluate the expected impact by tilting train for improving the train speed.

High frequency squeal noise can be generated when a railroad vehicle runs a sharp curved section; this noise causes environmental complaints and excessive wear on the wheel and the railroad track. In this paper, curved squeal noise experiments on a commercial railway were carried out to investigate this phenomenon. The relationship of the squeal noise pressure level, the frequency characteristics, the railway running speed, and the modal behavior of the wheel were investigated. At the same time, the lateral motion of the wheel relative to the rail was captured using a video camera; wheel movement was calculated when the noise was generated. queal noise occurred at the highest level at the inner front wheel; this phenomena is considered to be related to the lateral vibration response characteristics of the wheel. It can be seen that the magnitude of this squeal noise is not directly related to the increase in vehicle speed.

In this study, a finite element analysis was performed applying a nonlinear material model and fatigue load conditions to evaluate the service life and spring stiffness of the resilient pad for rail fastening system. As a result of the fatigue analysis, the rate of change in spring stiffness compared to the initial condition was about 16%, indicating that fatigue hardening occurred. As for the stress generated in the longitudinal direction of the resilient pad, the difference between the stress generated at the center and the edge was about 10 times or more. In addition, it was analyzed that the equivalent stress of the outer boundary was more than twice as large as that of the central part. Therefore, it was analyzed that the damage and deformation of the resilient pad are the corners of the resilient pad under actual service conditions. The fatigue life diagram of the resilient pad (S-N curve) was derived using the equivalent stress of the resilient pad according to the fatigue cycles. Using the fatigue life diagram of the resilient pad derived in this study, it is considered that it can be used to predict the fatigue life under the relevant conditions by calculating the equivalent stress of the resilient pad under various load conditions.
Urban conditions such as underground facilities and ambient noises due to cultural activity restrict the application of conventional geophysical techniques in general. We used the refraction microtremor (REMI) technique as an alternative way to get the geotechnical information, in particular shear-wave (S-wave) velocity information, at a site along an existing rail road. The REMI method uses ambient noises recorded using standard refraction equipment to derived shear-wave velocity information at a site. It does a wavefield transformation on the recorded wavefield to produce Rayleigh wave dispersion curve, which are then picked and modeled to get the shear-wave velocity structure. At this site the vibrations from the running trains provided strong noise sources that allowed REMI to be very effective. REMI was performed along the planned new underground rail tunnel. In addition, Suspension PS logging (SPS) were carried out at selected boreholes along the profile in order to draw out the quantitative relation between the shear wave velocity from the PS logging and the rock mass rating (RMR) determined from the inspection of the cores recovered from the same boreholes, These correlations were then used to relate the shear-wave velocity derived from REMI to RMR along the entire profile. The correlation between shear wave velocity and RMR was very good and so it was possible to estimate the RMR of the total zone of interest for the design of underground tunnel,
Installing the temporary bridge after excavating the railway requires installing movable cross beam, but as it doesn't requires isolating the catenary or cutting the rail, it's applicable to double-track with frequent operation. In this study, a displacement meter was placed on temporary bridge to monitor the displacement pattern in curve section (R400) completed using temporary bridge method, and wheel load, lateral pressure and derailment coefficient were measured to evaluate the load imposed on track and the stability in curve section (R400) for quantitative evaluation of training running safety. As a result of the measurement, when trains passing over a temporary bridge, the maximum value of Wheel load and Lateral Force is analyzed as the 51% and 81% of standard level according to foreign country's performance tests, There is no trouble with stability analysis in Wheel load and Lateral Force occurring. Additionally, Wheel load and Lateral Force considered as the safety standard are tested 49% of limiting value regardless of trains, which the norm value quite well, there is no problem with train running.
On curved rail, the speed of train must be reduced in order to keep riding comfort. So, the train has the speed limitation in conventional railway line. But if the train has the tilting mechanism, the speed of train is able to be increased while maintaining the riding comfort. Generally, the tilting train is faster than the non-tilting train about 30% in curve. The tilting train technology and reduction of travel time has been carefully investigated by KRRI (Korea Railroad Research Institute). Based on the primary research result from KRRI, tilting control system and tilting operation interlace are considered its core technology to apply tilting train to Korean conventional railway. In this paper application of non-tilting pantograph to tilting system will be introduced. New type of bogie frame and system modification of vehicle are invented to apply non-tilting pantograph to tilting train.
The railway track and the substructures constructed in the field test section of Kyongbu High Speed Line are the structures for HSL, for the first time designed and constructed by domestic technical group. It is very important to verify the local design criteria and specifications for these structures and also to assure the recordings for vibration or deflection produced on the essential parts of the structures. The study to verify the high-speed railway track performance and to ensure the run in safety on the track in curved section during the KTX run. Finally, the conclusion are drawn as follows. The measuring values of the deflection effort of the rail and displacement for verifying the track performance in the field test section of Kyoungbu HSL satisfy the criteria of the foreign countries (Japan and Germany). The measured value for the wheel load and the presumed value show the consistent tendency. The wheel loads of the exterior and interior of the rails at the speed superior to 300km/h are measured same. Finally, the comparison between the theoretical value presented during the verification of the derailment to evaluate the safety of the train run at the time of the detailed design of the track and the measured value in the field shows that the correct design of track structure was applied.
PURPOSES : This paper evaluates, using LS/DYNA-3D software, the vehicle impact performance of flexible barriers made of steel W-Beam supported by four different types of post configurations. These types include circular post, H-shape post, C-shape post, and square post. METHODS : The post-soil interaction has been investigated according to different impact angles. For this purpose, energy absorption, maximum displacements of post and rail, and occupant risk index of THIV have been compared each other. The three dimensional soil material model, instead of the conventional spring model based on Winkler and p-y curve, has been used to increase the correctness of computational model. RESULTS : It is noted the crash energy absorption has been increased with respect to the increase of impact angle. CONCLUSIONS : In particular, a post with open section(H-shape, C-shape) shows the greater crash energy absorption capability as compared with a post with closed section under the same level of impact conditions.

Recently, the ride comfort problem becomes increasingly important because of today's needs for train speedup. The railway has the track irregularities which cause vibrations, such as rail joints, turnout, level crossing, transition corves and super-elevation ramps, and variations in the track level(z-axis) and the gauge(y-axis). In Korea, the service run of the high speed train has been made since the 1st of April, 2004. The commercial high-speed trains must be run on the compound lines which are composed of high-speed line and conventional line. The high speed lines in both Kyoungbu line and Honam line have 57.5% and 33.8%, respectively In this Paper, the ride comfort has been reviewed by the various experimental methods when the high-speed trains are operated on both Kyoungbu line and Honam line. The results show that the high-speed train has no problems from the viewpoint of the comfort ride during the operation on the high speed line and conventional line.
