A Study on the Accident Case and Analysis on the Actual Condition of Construction Machinery in Railroad Construction Sites (철도건설현장 건설기계 재해사례 및 실태분석에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, railroad's preference greatly increased as the environment-friendly means of transportation as the importance in the aspects of environment and energy efficiency. So the government established the Korea Rail Network Authority which takes full charge of railroad construction in 20047 for regular railroad construction to combine major key points in the whole country with each other to be one city region by connecting them to each other to be within the commute time range of a hour and thirty minutes. And it has arranged large-scale railroad construction by establishing plans to build the 1st and 2nd national railroad networks as the national project and investing about 100 trillion won in it from 2006 to 2020. As large-scale railroad construction is promoted as the national project like this, there has been a string of safety accidents in it due to the large and complex construction project. As the government strengthened the safety accident prevention plans, safety accidents have tended to decrease in 2011. However, accidents of construction machinery have found to increase. Therefore, this study tried to investigate accident cases of the Korea Rail Network Authority for the recent 5 years and analyze accidents of construction machinery to prevent them in railroad construction sites and suggest accident prevention plans due to it by conducting, investigating, and analyzing the survey of its operators and superintendents of the construction sites and drawing the problems.

  • The important factor to evaluate the running safety of a railway vehicle would be the interaction force between wheel and rail(derailment coefficient), for which is one of important factors to check the running safety of a railway vehicle that may cause a tragic accident. In this paper, when interaction force between wheel and rail happens to wheel-set of tilting vehicles, it analyzes stress distribution and verified safety.

  • Due to the industrialization and urbanization, the transport of hazardous materials increases, which rises possibilities in occurring prospective accidents in terms of hazardous material transport as well. This study applied the model developed from the previous research to analyze the scale of damage areas from the accidents related to hazardous material accidents, as well as suggested a method to measure automatically the scale of accident including casualties and environmental damage based on the guideline which suggests the quantities of hazardous materials exposed from an accident and was defined in the study of standardization for hazardous material classification. A buffering analysis technique of Geographic Information System (GIS) was applied for that. To apply the model which evaluates the scale of population and exposure to environment on each link, rail network, zones, rail accident data, rail freight trips, and locations of rivers etc were complied as a database for GIS analysis. In conclusion, a method to measure damage areas by the types of hazardous materials was introduced using a Clip and a Special Join technique for overlay analysis.

  • A turnout serves to switch train from one line to another. The turnout consists of a Point which is switchs the rail to induce direction, and a Crossing which is cross over two line on the plane surface, and a Lead where is middle section in Point to Crossing. Point machine, consists of a turnout, is important facilities in railway signal, that is safety issue relates in derailment of the train. Recently, train delay and accident frequently occurred because of the turnout include in a point machine trouble of electrical and mechanical. So in order to prevent train accident the research is advanced, install of normal and reverse indication lamp in a point machine, development of adherence detector for sensing the status of adhesion between the stock rails and tongue rails etc. In this paper investigates the problem which is connected with a turnout trouble, include in a point machine, occurrence at the time of train accident, and then proposed to the safety system model in order to prevent the train accident in turnout.

Analysis of Accident Modification Factors (AMF) for Roadway-Rail Grade Crossing Accidents with Baysian Method (베이지안분석을 이용한 철도건널목 Accident Modification Factors (AMF)에 관한 연구)

  • This study develops Accident Modification Factors (AMF) of countermeasures with Baysian method which are newly proposed for reducing Roadway-Rail grade crossing accidents. This study proposes a new "Bayesian Analytical Framework" for countermeasure assessment which combines "Subjective" Prior Information with "Logical" based Information. The newly proposed "Bayesian Analytical Framework" consists of the following three steps: The 1st step - Countermeasure Selection, Choice of Participants, Selection of Crashes; The 2nd step-Development of Crash History Manual and Countermeasure Evaluation Manual; The 3rd step-Development of AMFs through sound statistical tests. This study used the Komogorov-Smirnov(K-S) Test to determine whether two unknown distribution functions associated with the two populations are identical. The results of the study are that individual responses did not meet the K-S test of identical distributions. while individual vs. group distributions are identical. This indicates that combining the input of several people reduces the impact of individual subjectivity and assumptions and is important for developing a repeatable distribution to develop sound AMFs of countermeasures for reducing Roadway-Rail grade crossing accidents. The procedures of the AMF development conducted in this study can be used to estimate the safety effects of countermeasures for road segments and intersections, in addition to Roadway-Rail grade crossings.

  • In this paper the cases on accidents/incidents and the reporting/responding procedures of high-speed rail operating countries will be reviewed and what these suggest us will be identified, and those countries' efforts to secure the prompt rescue system will be reviewed and the plan to secure the more customized rescue and rehabilitation system taking account into circumstances of our high-speed railway accident/incident will be presented.

  • Currently, as part of the ICT Smart City, the company is building C-ITS(Cooperative-Intelligent Transport Systems) for solving urban traffic problems. In order to realize autonomous driving service with C-ITS, the role of advanced road infrastructure is important. In addition to the study of mid- to long-term C-ITS and autonomous driving services, it is necessary to present more realistic solutions for road traffic safety in the short term. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a highway accident detection alarm system that can detect and analyze traffic flow and risk information, which are essential information of C-ITS, based on IoT guard rail and provide immediate alarm and remote control. Intelligent IoT guard rail is expected to be used as an intelligent advanced road infrastructure that provides data at actual road sites that are required by C-ITS and self-driving services in the long term.

Development and Application of Accident Prediction Model for Railroad At-Grade Crossings (철도건널목의 사고예측모형 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Rail crossings pose special safety concerns for modern railroad operation with faster trains. More than ninety percent of train operation-related accidents occurs on at-grade crossings. Surest countermeasure for this safety hazard is to eliminate at-grade crossings by constructing over/under pass or by closing them. These eliminations usually require substantial amount of investment and/or heavy public protest from those affected by them. Thorough and objective analysis are usually required, and valid accident prediction models are essential to the process. This paper developed an accident prediction model for Korean at-grade crossings. The model utilized many important factors such as guide personnel, highway traffic, train frequency, train sight distance, and number of tracks. Developed model was validated with actual accident data.

  • In this paper, we have proposed Station Safety Management System to protect station accident. we establish a sensor part near an underground rail. If a passenger approaches an underground rail, at first, lamp is shining and warning sound is ringing. nevertheless he approaches end of underground rail, At the same time, lamp is shining, warning sound is ringing, this information transfer server and train using wireless LAN. We makes this system using low cost in comparison with another system.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a method to support decision making of researchers, when we estimate the safety of the high-speed railway using F-AHP. To apply this method, Korean type of high-speed railway was engaged, and the 8 Stages of accident type and the five criteria were suggested that we must meet. Then, the interview with the researchers working for high-speed railway was used to confirm the alternatives suggested. The employed F-AHP for this study estimate using emotional words based on AHP of Saaty, so it is very good to estimate the high-speed railway safety.
