Form the application of long rail system the non-ballast steel plate bridges, fatigue strength increase and rail noise reduction can be expected. This is mainly form the reduction of the rail impact at the rail joint locations which already made to behave together from welds. In the high speed rail, application of long rail system is essential because without long rail system, the required serviceability level can not be achieved. But even with this long rail systems, the thermal expansion from the girder can not be absorbed in the normal bearing systems, and these expansion cause between girder and rail. Also unexpected rail buckling and fracture through rail thermal tension may happen. It was found through numerical analysis and field measurement that these problems can be avoided by semi-fixed bearing system. In this study, the benefits of non-ballast plate bridge through long rail system, especially at the point of girder stability, girder stiffness increase and bearing maintenance will be reviewed.
Most modern railways, especially the high speed railway tracks, use continuous welded rail(CWR) for the less maintenance. For the CWR track has very few expansion joints, track buckling has always been an unpredictable event and it happens mainly by high compressive stress in rail in summer period. Therefore, it is important to understand the variation of rail stress induced by thermal loads which has direct influence on the rail buckling and stability of railway track. This paper describes the experimental investigation of the variation of rail temperature and stress in a high speed railway track on bridge structure. Field measurement was performed to examine the correlation between the rail temperature and rail stress on the Korean High Speed Railway line. Regression functions were derived from measured data to determine the rail stress f3r an arbitrary rail temperature varies from 20 to 50 degree Celsius.
This paper examines the outcomes and tasks of U rail privatization especially focusing on the rail safety. Earlier research which focused on the rail safety had little knowledge of the explanations for recent changes of safety scheme. Moreover, they had difficulty making a direct comparison of safety between national rail and the privatized rail. Therefore we are left without a good explanation which has a comprehensive perspective. I attempt to show the outcomes of safety in the rail privatization process and its tasks focusing on the recent fatal accident. This paper argues that the UK's rail safety has a framework which is too complicated with overlapping responsibilities that brought about inefficiency, increasing costs. Especially infrastructure enterprise did not come to play an appropriate role. However, after 2000, the government took charge of setting the strategy for railway safety, and the Office of Rail Regulation covered safety, performance and cost. I explain that these changes present a good opportunity to solve the problem of passing the buck for rail accident. Through the analysis, I find that outcomes of rail privatization in safety are improved comparing the national rail. However, safety performance, for example the collision of structures of cars and looseness of rail should be improved. In future, the problems of fatal accident and a bit of duplicate safe system should be addressed.
Railway wheel/rail contact conditions have influences on dynamic behavior of the rolling stock. If there are incompatibility problems between the wheel and rail, damages like wheel wear, wheel spalling, rail wear, etc are occurred. Especially wheel and rail profiles are important factors of vehicle curving performance, so compatibility studies between wheel and rail profiles have to be carried out preferentially. In this study, we have studied the compatibility between wheel and rail profiles of KNR conventional line to analyze the dynamic performances of the rolling-stock. Thus we showed the results relating to wheel/rail geometric contact, vehicle running performances as the change of wheel/rail combination.
This paper deals with the domestic status of rail gap and criteria of the maximum allowable rail gap for the broken rail. Parameteric studies about the maximum allowable rail gap were accomplished by the zimmermann model. The dynamic behavior of broken rail not to be explained by the existing theory was looked into. When a train is travelling along rail gap for the broken rail, dynamic behaviors of rail system and train are abruptly changed. And the opinion about a permission criteria of the rail gab was presented.
Rail defects(Corrugation, shelling, etc) are occurred by the Rail with wheel contact stress. Rail grinding is maintaining of optimal rail profile to use special rail grinding machine to remove rail defect. The benefits of rail grinding enforcement, improve track safety, improve track steering and rail life, improve ride comfort and reduce noise, etc. Actually when rail grinding plan apply to field track, we should consider a lot of function before determination, such as grinding method, grinding pass number, removing metal volume, etc. because each track has various characteristics. Therefore it is important that the determination of rail grinding strategy for optimum and economic before enforcement.
This paper proposes an inspection robot that can operate on a single square rail. Various inspection robots have been developed to identify emergency situations in industrial environments, such as those involving fires or individuals with cardiac arrest. Because the robots must operate in wide areas and long tunnels, they are designed to move along a rail installed on the ceiling. Double rail track are typically used to ensure the stability of robot movement. However, the cost for installing a double rail track is nearly two times that for a single rail track. Moreover, it is challenging to install double rail tracks while ensuring the same curvature and interval between the two rails. Therefore, in this study, an inspection robot that operate on a single square rail track is developed. To ensure stable movement in the longitudinal and lateral directions, two passive guide parts are used, and the main active wheel is allowed to move on the upper side of the square rail. The prototype was manufactured, and experiments were performed for different robot velocities.
