Survey on Radon Knowledge and Awareness among Public Health Students (보건계열 재학생의 라돈 지식도 및 인지도 조사)

  • In order to investigate the knowledge and awareness of radon among public health students, this survey was conducted on second-year health students at three-year universities in the Busan and Gyeongnam regions and the results were analyzed. As a result of this study, firstly, the scores of radon knowledge according to gender were found to be high in men and radiologists, but there was no statistical difference. Second, as a result of the radon awareness survey, the radiology department students had the highest awareness, showing a statistically significant difference. Third, as a result of correlation analysis, the result was that the higher the knowledge about radon, the higher the awareness. Public health students are students who will be working to improve public health after graduation, so increasing their knowledge of radon will help improve public health. Therefore, it is believed that providing education about radon through the curriculum will be helpful in cultivating radon knowledge.

A Study on Risk Communication and Risk Perception in Environmental Problems (환경문제의 위해도 인식과 위해도 홍보 프로그램의 효과분석 -라돈과 다이옥신을 중심으로-)

  • Risk communication can be defined as the exchange of information about the nature, magnitude, significance, acceptability, and management of risk. The effect of risk communication on the perception and knowledge towards risk of environmental pollutants and it's related factors were investigated in this study. To investigate perception and knowledge of students and teachers towards risk of environmental pollutants, we conducted the survey using self-administrated questionnaire. The subjects were 574 for the first survey and 465 for the seconds survey from May to June, 2000. The main methods of transmission used in this study- through video tape, visual materials, question and answer, and participation in measuring pollutants - were not a one - way street. But an interactive process where information and opinions were exchanged among individuals, groups, and institutions. Environmental pollutants measured with participation of study subjects was Radon in the class room. The concentration of Radon was measured using E -PERM Device by installing it at each site for about 5 days. Subjects showed much interest in environmental pollution. Also, more than 98% of total subjects were perceived as Korea is seriously contaminated at present. By risk communication activity, risk perception of all subjects about Radon was increased, on the other hand, risk perception of Dioxin was decreased except for elementary student. Moreover, knowledge of all subjects about environmental risk was significantly increased (p =0.0001) and effort of reducing environmental pollution was more increased (p<0.05). There is need to further develop, refine, and integrate these approaches environmental risk communication study, there is an even more pressing need to accelerate the diffusion of environmental risk communication practice into government and organizations.

Iterative Data Completion for Limited Angle Tomography using Filtered Backprojection (각도 제한 단층영상재구성을 위한 여현 역투사 기반 반복적 데이터 완결 기법)

  • When the range of projection angles is limited, tomographic reconstruction suffers from artifacts caused by incomplete data. One can consider a data completion technique, which estimates projection data at unobserved angles using a prior knowledge or mathematical exploration, but the result is often not improved; the improvement by the data completion often undermined by the artifacts by inaccurate estimation, In this paper, we propose an iterative method, which computes projection data at unobserved angles by using the current estimate on the image, links the computed projection data to the observed ones by using the consistence condition of Radon transform, and reconstruct the next estimate on the image by filtered backprojection. The proposed method does not require a prior knowledge on the image, and has much faster approximation rate than the expectation maximization method. The performance of the proposed method was tested through several simulation studies.

International Trends for Radionuclides Management in Drinking water (선진 외국에서의 먹는물 중 방사성물질 관리동향)

  • The radionuclides in drinking water have been regulated in many countries. In USA, the regulation has been revised for over 30 years since radionuclides have been regulated under Safe Drinking Water Act(SDWA) from 1974. Today, USEPA is finalizing maximum contaminant level goal(MCLG) of zero for radionuclides, maximum contaminant level(MCL) and alternative maximum contaminant level(AMCL) of 300pCi/L and 4,000pCi/L for radon respectively, MCLs of $30{\mu}g/L$ for uranium, and MCLs of 5pCi/L for combined radium 226 and 228. In Canada, Maximum Acceptable Concentration(MAC) value for uranium is $20{\mu}g/L$. WHO revised the guideline value of uranium and radon to $15{\mu}g/L$ and 100Bq/L in september 2004, respectively. On this survey, it has been found that international regulations for radionuclides in drinking water have been established and improved steadily on the knowledge basis from the past decades' studies.

Hough Transform Based Projecton Method for Target Tracking in Image Suquences (투사 및 허프 변환 방식에 의한 연속 영상상의 비행체 궤적 추적)

  • This paper contains a Hough transform based projection method derived from Radon transform for tracking dim unresolved(sub-pixel) moving targets that move along straight line parths across a time sequential image data. In contrast to several recently presented Hough transform methods using a compressed image referred to as the track map our proposed technique utilizing a set of projections taken along arbitrary orientations effectively increases the changes of target detection, and creates a robust track estimation environment by incorporating all the available knowledge obtained from the projections. Moreover, in order to quantitatively assess the estimation capability of the projection-based Hough transform algorithm, the analytical bounds on the Hough space parameter errors introduced by image space noise contamination are derived. The simulation yielded promising results of estimating the track parameters even under low signal to noise rations when our technique was tested against the time sequential sets of real infrared image data referred to as the HiCamps.
