  • Objectives : To investigate the immunological activities, we evaluated the combination ratio of Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata and Glycyrrhizae Radix (AG) on murine macrophage cell line (RAW 264.7) and ovalbumin/aluminium (OVA/Alum)-immunized mice. Methods : The cellular proliferation and the production of nitric oxide were examined in a macrophage cell line, RAW 264.7 cells, in the presence of the combination ratio of Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata and Glycyrrhizae Radix. C57BL/6 mice were immunized intraperitonially with ovalbumin/aluminium ($100{\mu}g/200{\mu}g$) on day 1, 8, and 15. The combination ratio of Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata and Glycyrrhizae Radix (1 g/kg/day) was orally administrated for 3 weeks. On day 22, splenocyte and plasma were collected for mitogen-induced proliferation, lymphocyte subpopulation by flow cytometry and measurement of AST (Aspirate aminotransferase), ALT (Alanine aminotransferase), and antibodies (OVA-specific antibodies of the IgG, IgG1, and total IgM classes). Results : Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata treatment had no influence on immune responses. The proliferation and NO production of macrophage and proliferation of splenocyte were increased as the higher ratio of Glycrrhizae Radix. The proliferation of splenocyte, lymphocyte subpopulation and production of antibody (total IgM, OVA-specific IgG and OVA-specific IgG1) were increased as the higher ratio of Glycrrhizae Radix on OVA-immunzed mice. Conclusions : These results suggest that the higher ratio of Glycyrrhizae Radix can increase immunological activities such as NO production in RAW264.7 cells, splenocyte proliferation and immunoglobulin production in OVA-immunized mice.

  • As the high-throughput requirement in the next generation communication system increases, it becomes essential to implement high-throughput SISO (Soft-Input Soft-Output) decoder with minimal hardware resources. In this paper, we present the comparison results between cascaded radix-4 ACS (Add-Compare-Select) and LUT (Look-Up Table)-based radix-4 ACS in terms of delay, area, and power consumption. The hardware overhead incurred from the retiming technique used for high speed radix-4 ACS operation is also analyzed. According to the various analysis results, high-throughput radix-4 SISO decoding architecture based on simple path metric recovery circuit is proposed to minimize the hardware resources. The proposed architecture is implemented in 65 nm CMOS process and memory requirement and power consumption can be reduced up to 78% and 32%, respectively, while achieving high-throughput requirement.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the reproductive effect of Ginseng radix on male mice. Methods : Male C57BL/6J mice were divided into four groups ; normal group (vehicle-treated, n=8), Ginseng radix treatment group (100, 500, 1000 mg/kg, n=8). Ginseng radix extract was treated for 5 weeks. After treatment each group was examined for assessment of sperm count and CatSper protein expression using computer assisted semen analysis (CASA) system and the immunofluorescence. Results : Sperm count of normal and Ginseng radix extract treated group were 287.57 vs. 371.62, 364.83, $343.29{\times}10^6$, respectively. The CatSper3, 4 proteins expression of Ginseng radix treated group were significantly increased than that of normal group. Conclusions : These findings suggest that the Ginseng radix improves male reproductive function by increasing sperm count and CatSper protein expression.

  • Using the ethanol extract, Achyranthis Radix, various chemical characteristics were investigated. The nutritional compositions of the Achyranthis Radix extract were as follows;moisture 42.3%, crude protein 101.1%, crude fat 2.07%, ash 8.94%, and carbohydrate 36.5%. Among the free sugars, the maximum lactose concentration in the Achyranthis Radix extract was obtained at 0.0526 mg% and fructose, maltose, arabinose, and glucose were followed: 0.3654 mg%, 0.1160 mg%, 0.0365 mg% and 0.027 mg%, respectively. The total amino acid concentration of the Achyranthis Radix extract was 8908.3 mg% and concentrations of lysine, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, and arginine were 989.1 mg%, 954.4 mg%, 841.4 mg% and 763.2 mg%, respectively. Among various long chain fatty acids, the maximum concentrations of palmitic acid and linoleic acid were obtained at 47.8% and 31.058%, respectively. However, in the case of organic acid, only the oxalic acid and malic acid were determined. The potassium concentration in the Achyranthis Radix extract was relatively high and the concentrations of Ca, Mg, Fe, Na, Mn, and Zn were as follows: 275.3 mg%, 281.3 mg%, 119.4 mg%, 37.75 mg%, 10.43 mg% and 3.11 mg%, respectively. These results suggest that the Achyranthis Radix extract might have a possible positive effect for medical and edible purposes.

  • Variation in the root and canal morphology of the maxillary first molars is quite common. The most common configuration is 3 roots and 3 or 4 canals. Nonetheless, other possibilities still exist. The presence of an additional palatal root is rather uncommon and has been reported to have an incidence of 0.06 - 1.6% in varying populations studied. Whenever two palatal roots exist, one of them is the normal palatal root, the other is a supernumerary structure which can be located either mesiolingually (radix mesiolingualis) or distolingually (radix distolingualis). This case report describes successful endodontic treatment of a maxillary first molar with radix mesiolingualis and radix distolingualis. Identification of this variation was done through clinical examination along with the aid of multiangled radiographs, and an accurate assessment of this morphology was made with the help of a cone-beam computed tomography imaging. In addition to the literature review, this article also discusses the epidemiology, classifications, morphometric features, guidelines for diagnosis, and endodontic management of a maxillary first molar with extra-palatal root.

  • In this paper, an efficient butterfly structure for 8K/2K-Point Radix-4 FFT algorithm using CORDIC(coordinate rotation digital computer) is proposed. It is shown that CORDIC can be efficiently used in twiddle factor calculation of the Radix-4 FFT algorithm. The Verilog-HDL coding results for the proposed CORDIC butterfly structure show 36.9% cell area reduction comparison with those of the conventional multiplier butterfly structure. Furthermore, the 8K/2K-point Radix-4 pipeline structure using the proposed butterfly and delay commutators is compared with other conventional structures. Implementation coding results show 11.6% cell area reduction. Due to its efficient processing scheme, the proposed FFT structure can be widely used in large size of FFT like OFDM Modem.

  • Minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) of Sophorae Subprostratae Radix. Aconiti Radix, Hibisci Syriaci Cortex and those mixture. Phellodendri Cortex, Sophorae Radix, Torilis Fructuson on various species of the dermatophytes on Microsporium gypseum, Trichophytone rubrum and Epidermophytone floccosum were determined after 4 weeks of incubation at $25^{\circ}C$ in Sabouraud dextrose broth. The results were summarized as followes : 1. Antifungal effects of Phellodendri $Cortex\;{\cdot}Hibisci$ Syriaci Cortex and mixture of Sophorae Subprostratae Radix, Aconiti Radix, Hibisci Syriaci Cortex on T rubrum which is the most common organism of tinea pedis were more effective than that of the others. 2 These results suggested that herbal medicines such as Phellodendri $Cortex\;{\cdot}Hibisci$ Syriaci Cortex and mixture of Sophorae Subprostratae Radix, Aconiti Radix, Hibisci Syriaci Cortexse can be used to treat tinea pedis and to improve untoward effects associated with the administration of antifugual agents.
