Analysis of Safety Alarm Mechanism for RF -based Equipment for Casualty Protection by Railway Maintenance Vehicle

  • When doing maintenance works at the trackside of railway, the method which delivers information on approaching of train to maintenance workers through alarm devices such as the flag or indication light, etc., is being used by locating persons in charge of safety alarm in addition to the maintenance workers at fixed distances in the front and rear of the workplace. Workers maintaining at the trackside may collide with the train since they cannot recognize the approach of train although it approaches to the vicinity of maintenance workplace because of the sensory block phenomenon occurred due to their long hours of continued monotonous maintenance work. The clash or rear-end collision accidents between many maintenance trains called motor-cars can be occurred since there are cases where the signal systems for safe operation of motor-car such as track circuit etc. are blocked or not operated normally. We developed the new safety equipment for protection of trackside maintenance workers using radio frequency signals and bidirectional detection mechanism. The developed safety equipment must analyze the several operational mechanism for each different operation situations. In this paper the analysis results are represented.

  • To cut down the maintenance expenses at branch lines, the foreign developed countries have developed the low-cost signalling on low-density lines. These examples are FFB(FunkFahrBetrieb) Radio based train operation by German railways(Deutsche Bahn AG), ERTMS REGIONAL by Europe and LOCOPROL system using a GPS. Also, Korea is developing Information and Communication Technology based low-cost signalling on low-density lines. The characteristics of this system are directly controled switch and crossing by driver. For the purpose of this paper, we reviewed the business process for switch and crossing control. Specially, we compared and analysed both methods whether the driver takes control over the operation procedures of switch or the control message is carried by the command of the controller. And by utilizing the instrument of UML, I planned the switch according to the control authority and the operation procedures needed for the control of crossing.

  • 본 논문에서는 무선통신 기술인 무선 Mesh를 이용하여 열차제어시스템 데이터를 전송하는 기술에 대하여 제안하였다. 국내외에서 차세대 열차제어기술로 각광받고 있는 무선기반 열차제어시스템 기술의 핵심 요소인 무선주파수에 대하여 이론적 특성을 제시하고 실험을 통하여 5.7GHz대역 무선주파수의 열차제어시스템 적용 가능성과 신뢰성, 가용성, 안정성에 대하여 분석함으로써, 경제적이고 효율적인 주파수 이용과 함께 향후 무선기반 열차제어시스템 개발에 응용할 수 있는 기술적 토대를 제시하였다.

  • Presently metro in our country has higher rate of passengers as a public transportation of urban area than other transportations. And road is under very restrictive condition to be expanded in many aspects because the streets are completely choked. Therefore increase of capacity in metro and reduction of headway has been seriously required and utmost efforts has been taken by related fields to meet the requirements. The concept of CBTC system came out from this background. CBTC system can be implemented to detect t location without using the track circuits.   • 열차제어시스템은 지상 전기 중심에서 차상 통신 중심으로 변화하고 있다. 최신의 열차제어시스템인 CBTC 시스템은 차상과 지상시스템 간 양방향 무선통신을 기반으로 높은 간격제어 효율을 가진다. 하지만 지상이 제어의 중심이 되고 있기 때문에 하나의 지상시스템이 허용할 수 있는 열차 투입 대수가 제한되고 차상과 지상제어시스템 간 cyclic-path 제어흐름으로 인해 운전시격 단축에 한계를 가진다. 본 논문은 열차자율주행제어시스템을 위한 간격제어와 차상중심 분산형 연동 알고리즘을 제안한다. 열차자율주행제어시스템은 차상에서 간격제어와 함께 분기제어를 수행하므로 선로와 분기기는 공유자원인 동시에 세마포어 요소이다. 제안된 열차자율주행기반 간격제어는 지상 제어시스템의 제어명령에 의존하지 않고 열차와 열차 또는 선로변 설비와의 직접적인 무선통신을 통해 열차 간격제어를 수행한다. 제안된 연동 알고리즘은 공유자원인 선로전환기가 동시에 두 대 이상의 열차가 점유하지 못하도록 선로전환기 고유 key를 이용한 세마포어 기법을 새롭게 정의한다. 시뮬레이션을 통해 제안된 열차자율주행제어시스템의 향상된 간격제어 성능을 확인하며, 차상중심 분산형 연동알고리즘과 기존의 연동장치에서 수행하던 여러 연동논리를 비교함으로써 단순화된 연동알고리즘으로 안전한 열차제어가 가능함을 확인한다.

Bidirectional Alarm Equipment for Protection for Trackside Worker using Bone-anchored Speaker

  • Personnel maintaining or repairing the railway tracks or signaling facilities around tracks may experience the sensory disorder when doing maintenance works at the trackside of railway for long time. In this case personnel maintaining at the trackside may collide with the train since they cannot recognize the approach of motor-car although it approaches to the vicinity of maintenance workplace because of the sensory block phenomenon occurred due to their long hours of continued monotonous maintenance work. In order to prevent such motor-car accidents that may occur because railway track workers are unable to recognize the approaching train, the safety alarm equipment is developed to make the approaching motor-car send radio signals and bidirectional detection mechanism between approaching train and trackside personnel. It shows the possibility of utilization in various forms of safety equipment for workers only to the safety helmet to be worn by the maintenance workers while using the configuration of transmitting/receiving sides. In the paper it is represented new alarm equipment, which is the bone-anchored speaker-based safety helmet to be worn by the maintenance workers.

LTE-R의 도시철도 터널 환경 적용성 분석 (Analysis on Applicability of LTE-R in Urban Railway Tunnel Environment)

  • Unlike commercial LTE network, LTE-R railway network is arranged along a railroad track and the base stations of the network (RUs) are also installed on the waysides. For urban railway systems that are composed of underground tunnels, the leakage coaxial cables are widely used due to the radio propagation characteristics in tunnels. In theory, the tunnel sections are interpreted as the waveguide with blank spaces and for this reason, the tunnel sections are expected to be better than open ground sections in terms of the radio propagation characteristics. In this paper, we analyze the radio propagation characteristics based on this theory by replacing the leakage coaxial cables in the network with Yagi antennas. The test has been carried out in the 2.2km tunnel in the Daebul test track of KORAIL with 2.6GHz LTE-R Network. The LTE-R applicability in urban railways has been tested through the analysis on the radio propagation characteristics with the unmanned train operation system in Daebul tunnel.

  • With the rapid development of information and communication technology, CBTC system based on the wireless communication is widely applied in the railway signal system recently. CBTC system has advantages of lower installation space and maintenance fee than existing systems and the increase of transportation capacity and improvement of operating efficiency etc. due to the short headway. Based on the continuous wireless data communication between onboard and wayside equipment, CBTC system not only locates the train and transmits the information required for the train control, but also implements the moving block function by calculating the brake curves continuously according to distance from the preceding train. CBTC system can use either inductive loop (IL-CBTC) or radio frequency transmissions (RF-CBTC). In this paper, we propose RF-CBTC system architecture based on the functional modules, in which the CAN bus network is applied for the interfaces between the modules.

  • 안전전송장치는 열차와 철도 시설 간에 통신을 제공하여 안전하고 효율적인 운영을 보장해야 하는 철도 시스템에서 사용되는 중요한 장치이다. 본 논문에서는 무선통신기반 차세대 열차제어시스템의 안전전송장치를 설계하고 시험하였다. 유럽규격과 국내규격을 분석하고 요구사항을 검토하여 국제적 수준의 안전전송장치의 HW 설계와 SW를 설계하여 제작하였다. 안전전송장치의 기능을 검증하기 위하여 시뮬레이터를 제작하여 설계된 기능이 구현되고 있는 것을 확인하였다.

  • A mesh node, a component of a mesh network, is connected with the network by dynamic routing using routing protocol and collects the information of adjacent or connected mesh nodes for its self-management and settings. Also, it relays packets between the mesh nodes and provides AP(Access Point) with its corresponding functions based on IEEE 802.11 a/b/g for clients' access to the network. In this paper, the study focused on the design and performance tests of Wireless Mesh Network(WMN) which is applied to the wireless communication network for the CBTC(Communications Based Train Control) system. The WMN was established on a K-AGT test-line (Kyeongsan city, Gyeongsangbuk-do), and to verify the applicability, its operation and performances are checked by measuring the data throughput, delay latency, quality measurements such as transmission loss, radio interference and path recovery and setup between the on-board and wayside.
