Effect of AC Electric Field on Decreasing Liftoff Height in Laminar Lifted Jet Flames (층류 부상 화염의 화염부상 높이 감소 구간에서 교류 전기장이 인가된 화염에 관한 영향)

  • An experimental study has been conducted to elucidate the effect of AC electric field on behaviors of laminar lifted flame in nitrogen-diluted methane coflow-jets. Our concerns are focued on the regime to show a decrease in liftoff height, $H_L$ with increasing nozzle exit velocity, $U_O$ (hereafter, $decreasing-H_L$). The $H_L$ with $U_O$ near flame extinction were measured by varying the applied AC voltage, $V_{AC}$ and frequency, $f_{AC}$ in a single electrode configuration. The behavior of $H_L$ with a functional dependency of $V_{AC}$ and $f_{AC}$ was categorized into two regime : (I) $H_L$ decreased for nozzle diameter, D = 1.0 mm, and (II) $H_L$ increased in the increase of $f_{AC}$ for a fixed $V_{AC}$ in a D = 4.0, 8.4 mm. The lifted flames in $decreasing-H_L$ region was unstable in high voltage regimes while the $H_L$ showed a decreasing tendency with $U_O$ except them. Such behaviors in $H_L$ were also characterized by functional dependencies of related physical parameters such as $V_{AC}$, $f_{AC}$, $U_O$, fuel mole fraction ($X_{F.O}$) and D.

  • Efficient numerical method is developed for treating electromagnetic problems of scattering and radiation from surfaces. Special consideration is given to the treatment of edges so that rather arbitrary geometrical configurations may be handled. For the conducting body problems considered, an electric field integral formulation is used, and the method of moments is applied using pulse expantions to present currents. Numerial results indicate that the approach is free os anomalies in the behavior of current for body of revoution.

  • A new type of collinear antenna called short-ended coaxial slot-coupled strip array antenna is investigated theoretically. The antenna has an advantage of structural simplicity. The integral equations are derived for the proposed structure by use of the Fourier transform and mode expansion, and the simultaneous linear equations are obtained. The slot electric field and strip current are then obtained by solving the simultaneous linear equation. The effects of slot and strip number on the radiation efficienty, beamwidth and directivity gain are also presented.

  • In this paper, the analysis and design of a spirally slotted array antenna with high efficiency are presented. Electric fields in the slots are calculated by electromagnetic fields in the upper waveguide and radiation field equations are derived. Slots are arrayed spirally on the upper circular plate of twofold radial waveguide. In order to suppress grating lobes from the array, a slow wave structure is inserted in the upper waveguide. This antenna is characterized by a good circular polarization, high efficiency of 75 percent and grating lobes below -34dB.

  • A short-ended electromagnetically coupled coaxial dipole array antenna is investigated theoretically. The antenna has an advantage of structural simplicity.   • In order to survey the radiation characteristics of pure line noise of unwanted noise from overhead high voltage AC transmission lines, a disk type gap noise generator was manufactured. Disk size which decides capacitance between the noise generator and earth was selected through preliminary indoor experiments and analysis by using surface charge method. The capacitance is one of principal parameters related to the injection of a proper noise current into lines. On the basis of the capacitance obtained from calculation, 5mm of space was given to the gap of the noise generator to be installed o test line and an aluminum disk of 60cm radius was made. The field experiments were performed with the noise generator hung on the Kochang 765 kV full scale test line. As the results, the useful data which can be used to analysis the radiation characteristics of noise from transmission lines were obtained. Those are the directivity of antenna toward the line, lateral profiles, frequency spectra, height pattern and so on.

  • In this paper, we propose the prediction algorithm of radiation emission from the PCB in an enclosure with a rectangular aperture. PCB scanner is used to measure the near field, which is substituted with an equivalent electric dipole source. Green function and Fourier transform are utilized to represent the electromagnetic fields within and outside the enclosure, respectively. The radiation emission is estimated by using the mode matching technique and surface equivalent theorem. The theoretical results are compared with the measurement to check the accuracy of our analysis.

  • The radiation characteristics of the conical corrugated feed horn are analyzed by the Gaussian beam mode theory. the electric field over the aperture can be expanded in terms of a set of Gaussian-Laguerre modes. It is proved that these modes are the solutions of the wave epuations for the paraxial approximation. A method, using the sum of the mode expansion coefficients instead of calculation only the fundamental mode, is presented in order to reduce the radiation pattern error. For illustrative examples, the radiation patterns of the corrugated horn antenna operting over C, Ku, and mm-wave band are calculated. Our results agree well with the results obtained by the vector potential method over each band, and also agree well with the measured value at 6.175GHz.

  • This paper deals with a kind of the half-space interfacial problem in time domain, requiring the calculation of the horizontal electric field generated by a tiny impulsive current source located horizontally at the interface between an isotropic upper half-space and a uniaxially anisotropic lower half-space. With the Cagniard-de-Hoop method adapted for our interfacial case, we obtain the explicit-form solution for this electric field. We also investigate the impulse radiation in the radial direction. The impulse components of Dirac $\delta$-function type in transient waveforms are important for the understanding of the interfacial far-field characteristics. The uniaxial case is a generalization of the isotropic one, and the explicit solutions of the uniaxial problem in this paper reduce to the solutions of the isotropic problem if the anisotropy is removed.

  • A subreflector of an offset dual reflecor antenna system mounted on satelite is analyzed by Uniform Geometrical Theory of Diffraction(UTD). In order to get the total electric field at an observation point, the reflected field and the diffracted fields obtained by UTD are summed. The reflected point and the diffracted points which have to satisfy nonlinear equations are obtained by numerical methods. The numerical results show taht diffracted fields eliminate the discontinuity of reflected fields at the shadow boundary. To show the validity of our results, the field pattern of the symmetric hyperboloidal reflector is computed and compared with S. W. Lee et al.'s results. At various obsevation angles, radiation patterns of offset ellipsoidal subreflectors offseted by a circular corn and by an elliptic corn are obrained, repectivelly.
