Adverse changes in individual's biochemistry under heavy metal stress are directly linked with its metabolic activity and health status. The present investigation highlights the differences in protecting role of Panax ginseng extract against mercuric chloride induced alterations in serum proteins. The assessment was based on dividing fifty albino rats into two sets, one for acute and the other for sub-acute study. All the sets had five groups with five albino rats in each i.e. control group, mercuric chloride treated group, Panax ginseng extract treated group, mercuric chloride followed by Panax ginseng extract treated group and Panax ginseng extract followed by mercuric chloride treated group. Mercuric chloride was given orally 0.926 mg/kg body weight for acute set and 0.044 mg/kg body weight for sub-acute set after LD50 (9.26 mg/kg body weight) determination by probitt analysis. 10 mg/kg body weight Panax ginseng extract was given in both acute and sub-acute sets after incorporating safety trials. The control group received tween-20 and distilled water only. The result exhibited significantly reduction (P<0.01) in serum protein, albumin and globulin following mercuric chloride intoxication whereas significant (P<0.01) enhancement in other groups with Panax ginseng extract as an ingredient confirming its protective role. All serum samples were also electrophoresed in 10% SDS with standard marker using discontinuous buffering system. Gradual disappearance of alpha-2 and beta-1 globulin bands from electrophoretic pattern was observed, while a single sharp band was observed between beta-2 and gamma globulin in serum protein pattern of acutely mercuric chloride treated rats. However, this band could not be visualized in sub-acute studies. Panax ginseng extract exhibits a better protection after acute intoxication.

This paper aims to address the cellular toxicity of ultra-pure titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) and zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (NPs) frequently employed in sunscreens as inorganic physical sun blockers to provide protection against adverse effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation including UVB (290-320 nm) and UVA (320-400 nm). In consideration that the production and the use of inorganic NPs have aroused many concerns and controversies regarding their safety and toxicity and that microsized $TiO_2$ and ZnO have been increasingly replaced by $TiO_2$ and ZnO NPs (< 100 nm), it is very important to directly investigate a main problem related to the intrinsic/inherent toxicity of these NPs and/or their incompatibility with biological objects. In the present study, we took advantage of the laser-assisted method called laser ablation for generation of $TiO_2$ and ZnO NPs. NPs were prepared through a physical process of irradiating solid targets in liquid phase, enabling verification of the toxicity of ultra-pure NPs with nascent surfaces free from any contamination. Our results show that $TiO_2$ NPs are essentially non-poisonous and ZnO NPs are more toxic than $TiO_2$ NPs based on the cell viability assays.

;The Kwinana Shoreline Fumigation Experiment(KSFE) took place in Fremantle, WA, Australia between 23 January and 8 February, 1995. All measurement systems performed to expectation. The CSIRO DAR(Division of Atmospheric Research) LIDAR measured plume sections from near the Kwinana Power Station(KPS) stacks to up to about 5 km downstream. It also measured boundary layer aerosols and the structure of the boundary layer on some occasions. Both stages A and C of KPS were used as tracers at different times. Radiosonde and double theodolite sounding systems measured temperature, humidity, air pressure and wind structure at the coast(Woodman Point) and at the inland(ALCOA residue dump) site at intervals of roughly two hours. These were supplemented by mid afternoon soundings(radiosonde and single theodolite) by Department of Environmental Protection(DEP) at Swanbourne. The Flinders aircraft measured wind, turbulence and temperature structure of the atmospheric boundary layer, concentrations of $C0_2,\;0_3,\;S0_2\;and\;NO_x$ in the smoke plumes and surface radiation over both land and sea. CSIRO DCET(Division of Coal and Energy Technology) vehicle successfully interceptde many smoke plumes and using a range of tracers will be able to identify the various sources much of the time. Routine data from the DEP and Kwinana Industrial Council(KIC) air quality monitoring networks were also automatically logged. Murdoch University measured surface heat flux at Hope Valldy monitoring station and also at Wattleup monitoring station for the last five days. The heart of the LIDAR system is a Neodymium-doped Yttrium-aluminumgarnet(Nd:Y AG) laser operating at a fundamental wavelength of 1064 nm, with harmonics fo 532 nm and 355 nm. A small fraction of the laser beam is scattered back to the LIDAR, collected by a telescope and detedted by a photomultiplier tube. The intensity of the signal as a function of time is a measure of the particle concentration as a function of distance along the line of the laser shot. The results of nine days special field observations are summarized in detail.etail.

In this paper, it is performed the optimal design of the UV LED bar which can be used variously. The UV LED Bar emits ultraviolet rays, so it is important to emit ultraviolet rays constantly for the purpose of use. In order to emit a certain amount of ultraviolet rays as ever, the ultraviolet ray emission should be driven by a constant current source within the operable input voltage range. And also the heat dissipation is particularly important because of the long ultraviolet emission retention time due to the UV utilization characteristics. In addition, since human body protection is essential, the algorithm is configured to operate according to human body detection using distance sensor and Bluetooth. Three 365nm UV LEDs were used in series to emit ultraviolet UVA, operating at the constant current of 500mA with an efficiency of 87.5% and a power consumption of 6.006W. The ultraviolet radiation dose was measured at $5.35mW/cm^2$ at the distance of 10 cm when measured by the Lutron ultraviolet measuring instruments.

In this paper, human exposure of wireless devices was analyzed for various positions of the transmitter. The scenario for the position of the transmitting antenna was decided after discussion with ADD(Agency for Defense Development), and Korean male phantom model developed by ETRI were used to conduct simulations. The SAR values were analyzed by changing the position of the transmitter, and compared with Korean EMF regulations and ICNIRP guidelines. Additionally, human exposure was also investigated for two typical postures which can be posed by war-fighter.
In the AC PDP, the MgO film is used as electrode protective film. This film must provide excellent ion bombardment protection, high secondary electron emission, and should be high transparent to visible radiation. In this study, we investigated the relations between the crystal orientation and e-beam evaporation process parameters. The crystal orientation of the MgO layer depends on the conditions of deposition. The parameters are the thickness of the MgO film $1000{\AA}-6500{\AA}$, the deposition rate $200{\AA}/min{\sim}440{\AA}/min$, the temperature $150^{\circ}C{\sim}250^{\circ}C$, and the distance between crucible and substrate 11cm ${\sim}$ 14cm. The temperature of substrate and evaporation rate of source material, or deposition rate of the film, are definitely related to the crystal orientation of the MgO thin film. The crystal orientation can be changed by the distance between the target(MgO tablet) and the substrate. However, the crystal orientation is not much affected by the thickness of MgO thin film.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to introduce the establishment process and results of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's road map on environmental health policy. Methods: The process consisted of expert group meetings, civic participation, research, and questionnaire survey for priority environmental health policy agenda items in Seoul. Results: The announced vision for the environmental health policy was "a healthy environment, safety in Seoul". This policy was established in order to define environment health policy initiatives for a period of five years with an aim to protect Seoul citizens' health from hazardous environmental factors. The resulting Seoul environmental health policy consisted of four areas and 16 key agenda items. The four areas were "Protection for children against hazardous materials", "Enhancement of health and safety of all", "Carcinogen-free and endocrine-disrupting chemical-free Seoul (reducing environmental exposure to hazardous materials), and "Establish the foundation of environmental health policy". Sixteen key agenda items include the enhancement of management of spaces for children, certification of environmental health status at schools, establishment of a unit responsible for the environmental health of children, strengthening environmental health management for susceptible populations (children, the aged, and the socioeconomically vulnerable), management of hazardous materials, physical hazardous factors (noise, radiation, etc.), indoor air quality, and the enhancement of monitoring, research, and regulation of environment health. Conclusion: The Seoul Metropolitan Government established an environmental health policy road map for a five-year period (2013-2017). To implement this environmental health policy, budget allocation, and detailed execution plans are required.
According to developing high energy linear accelerators and treatment methods, like (3 dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT), intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), many radiotherapy centers are replacing older linear accelerators with new higher technical machines. This often presents a shielding problem as the designed shield for the existing rooms is not adequate for the higher technical machines. Additional shielding in limited existing space becomes necessary. We are replacing older brachytherapy room with new higher technical linear accelerator for IMRT. This room is not adequate for the IMRT machine without additional shielding design. The logical development of optimum structural shielding designs with concrete and high density shielding blocks are presented. We obtained following results by comparison between the pre-calculating values and actual survey of completed LINAC installation. High density shielding blocks have more powerful radiation protection about 2 times.

Since Wertheimer and Leeper reported possible adverse health effects of magnetic field in 1979, worldwide researches on this issue have been conducted. More recently, the U.S. Congress instructed the NIEHS (National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences), NIH (National Institute of Health) and DOE (Department of Energy) to direct and manage EMF RAPID (Electric and Magnetic Fields Research and Public Information Dissemination) program aimed at providing scientific evidence to clarify the potential for health risks from exposure to extremely low frequency electric and magnetic fields(ELF-EMF). Although they concluded that the scientific evidence suggesting adverse health risks of ELF-EMF is weak, the exposure to ELF-EMF cannot be recognized as entirely safe. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to describe magnetic field 3-D calculation and to evluate eddy current of human body compare to international guide line recognized one of the basic problems. In open boundary problem, Magnetic field using FEM is not advantageous in the point of the division of area and the proposition of the fictitious boundary. Therefore, we induced the analytic equation of magnetic field calculations so but the finite line segment based on Biot-Savarts law Also, Eddy currents induced due to ELF-EMF magnetic field are computed. To calculate induced currents, impedance method is used in this paper, An example model of human head with resolution of 1.27cm is used. In this paper, We evaluate the magnetic field and eddy current of human head around 765 kV transmission lines compare to international guide line.

Recently, as the WHO IARC has classified radio frequency electromagnetic fields as possibly carcinogenic (group 2B) to humans, there is increasing concern about the health effects of overexposure from electromagnetic fields. Especially, the workers are exposed to higher level of electromagnetic radiation than the general public. As a result, in Europe, the protection guidelines for the worker are developed and the exposure of the worker is strictly controlled. In this paper, the EU directive, standards and guidelines of the EMF exposure for the worker were reviewed, and the exposure assessment of EMF was performed for the arc welding. Based on that, we propose a way to introduce a national policy to protect the workers from EMF exposure in working environment.
