A kind of traditional herbal prescription, Sip-Jeon-Dae-Bo-Tang (TJ-48), has been reported to improve the general condition of cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and /or radiation therapy, and to accelerate hematopoietic recovery from bone marrow injury by mitomycin C. In the present studies, we found that hot-water extract from Atractylodes lancea DC. rhizomes contributed mainly to intestinal immune modulating activity of TJ-48 on Peyer's patch cells mediated-hematopoietic response. After the fractionation, ALR-5 II a-1-1, 5 II b-2-2 and 5 II c-3-1 were further purified from crude polysaccharide fraction. Chemical analyses of each fraction indicated that ALR-5 II a-1-1 mainly contained arabinogalactan fraction whereas ALR-5 II b-2-2 and 5 II c-3-1 mostly comprised pectic polysaccharide fractions as the active polysaccharide ingredients. In order to analyze the essential structure of the activity, ALR-5 II a-1-1 was treated by sequential enzymatic digestion using exo-${\alpha}$-L-arabinofuranosidase and exo-${\beta}$-D-(1\longrightarrow3)-galactanase. Based upon the results of chemical and MALDI-TOF-MS analyses and activity on the digested fractions, the galactosyl side chains consisting of 6-linked Galf and Galp over tetrasaccharide in ALR-5 II a-1-1 might be responsible for the potent intestinal immune modulating activity. To characterize moiety of ALR-5 II c-3-1 for the expression of activity, endo-${\alpha}$-D-(1\longrightarrow4)-polygal acturonase (GL-PGase) purified from dried leaves of Panax ginseng digested ALR-5 II c-3-1. The results of structural analyses and activity on the digested fractions showed that PG-2, which structurally resembles to rhamnogalacturonan II (RG II), and PG-3 (galacturono-oligosaccharides) contained potent intestinal immune modulating activity. Further purification of the other acidic fraction (ALR-5 II b-2-2) indicated that ALR-5 II b-2-2Bb showed that the most potent activity. ALR-5 II b-2-2Bb also contained the unusual component sugars characteristics in RG- II as well as PG-2 derived from ALR-5 II c-3-1, but it could not be digested with GL-PGase. The present studies of relationship between structures and intestinal immune modulating activity of the active polysaccharides purified from A. lancea DC. rhizomes suggested that neutral galactosyl chains consisting mainly of (1\longrightarrow6)-linked Galf and Galp, and RG- II -like moiety with unique component sugars, such as 2-Me-Xyl, 2-Me-Fuc, Api, AceA, Kdo and Dha should play an important role in the potent intestinal immune modulating action of A. lancea DC. rhizomes.

Using hydrogen fuel is expected to be suitable as a reciprocating internal combustion engine with heightened interest in HALE(High Altitude Long Endurance) UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle). Hydrogen is hightest energy density per mass so it can continue to charge for long periods of time and have positive part of the environmental effects. However, it is estimated that there is less research on hydrogen fuel engine currently applied, and many studies need to be done. Depending on the operation, there are factors that result in supercooling due to reduced radiation or reduce cooling performance due to low air density. Therefore, the experiment was to change the temperature of the cooling water and investigate the effect on engine combustions. The limitation of the stable operation range due to backfire is dominated by the excess air ratio rather than the effect of the cooling water temperature change. When the cooling water temperature increases, the volumetric efficiency decreases and the torque decreases. As the cooling water temperature decreases, the heat loss was increased and consequently the thermal efficiency was decreased.

In this study, two rectangular barges in close proximity were simulated to analyze the characteristics of motion responses due to hydrodynamic interactions. Using a numerical solution from DNV-GL SESAM, coupled stiffness matrix terms for these same FEM models were added to the multiple body modes in the surge direction. Potential theory was used to calculate the first order radiation and diffraction effects on the simulated barge models. In the results, the sheltering effect of the barges was not shown at 1.3 rad/s with hull separation of 20 m in transverse waves. The separation effect between the barges was more clear with longitudinal waves and a shallow water depth. However, sway forces were influenced by hull separation with transverse waves. The peaks for sway and heave motion and sway force occurred at higher frequencies as hull separation narrowed with longitudinal and transverse waves. Given a depth of 10 m, the sway motion on the lee side of a coupled barge made a significant difference in the range of 0.2-0.8 rad/s with transverse and oblique waves. Also, the peaks for sway force were situated at lower frequencies, even when incident waves changed.
Adenoid cystic carcinoma is an uncommon histologic variant of adenocarcinoma which usually arises from the salivary, lacrimal, or other exocrine glands. Characteristics of adenoid cystic carcinoma are its potential for extending long distance submucosally and for perineural invasion. It grows slowly and may have a prolonged course before diagnosis and after treatment. Recently, we have experienced 2 cases of adenoid cystic carcinoma arising from main bronchus and trachea. One case was 58 years old female patient. Her symptoms were productive cough with dyspnea. She has been history of shortness of breath, wheezing and cough during 4 years, which was initially diagnosed as bronchial asthma. The tumor was located on the left main stem bronchus which was obstructed the lumen nearly complete, by CT demonstration. Tissue diagnosis was confirmed as adenoid cystic carcinoma by bronchoscopic biopsy. The patient underwent radiation to relieve a bronchial stenosis caused by her tumor. The patient has remained well and is asymptomatic without evidence of clinical recurrence. The other case was 25 year old female. She complained shortness of breath and inspiratory difficulty during sleep. The tumor was located in upper trachea, which protruded from the posterior wall of the trachea and obstructed the lumen nearly complete, by CT demonstration. Tissue diagnosis was confirmed as adenocystic carcinoma by rigid bronchoscopic biopsy. The patient was underwent operation for removal of the mass and received radiotherapy. The patient has remained well are following up now.
Not only in order to determine reasonable application amounts of PCP in terms of soil texture, but also to get basic data for fish-toxicity-free treatment by estimating fish toxicity, some aspects of PCP adsorption were observed taking various paddy soils with different physico-chemical characteristics in the Choongbook Area as samples. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. There was a positive correlation between PCP adsorption and clay contents, total nitrogen, organic matter, cation exchange capacity, exchangeable bases, and phosphorus absorption coefficients, respectively; whereas there was a negative one between PCP adsorption and pH. Although they were not significant, it was remarkable that there was a relatively large amount of correlation between PCP adsorption and clay contents, $H^+,\;Mg^{++}$, and CEC, respectively. 2. PCP adsorption in terms of soil texture was in the order of Clay>Loam>Sandy loam. 3. Although PCP adsorption in the $H_2O_2-treated$ soils decreased remarkably, it was not proportional to the humus contents. 4. The order of PCP adsorption in the exchangeable base-treated soils was H^+-exchanged soil>$K^+-soil$>$Na^+-soil$>$Ca^{++}-soil$>Mg^{++}-soil. 5. Langmuir's and Freundlich's adsorption isotherms were applicable to the PCP adsorption, and thereby were able to be calculated maximum adsortion amounts of PCP, bond energy, and the depths of adsorption layers. 6. Maximum adsorbed amounts of PCP were 212.14 mg/100gr in Clayey loam, 97.28 to 121.59mg/100gr in Loam, and 32.92 to 91.74mg/100gr in Sandy loam, respectively. 7. The depths of mixed layers of limiting application for fish-toxicity-free treatment were 0.88cm of the Jinchun soil, the shallowest and 4.29 cm of the Naesan-ri Sandy loam, the deepest.
The iterative boundary element method (IBEM) developed originally before for cavitating two-dimensional (2-D) and three-dimensional (3-D) hydrofoils moving under free surface is modified and applied to the case of 2-D (two-dimensional) airfoils and 3-D (three-dimensional) wings over water. The calculation of the steady-state flow characteristics of an inviscid, incompressible fluid past 2-D airfoils and 3-D wings above free water surface is of practical importance for air-assisted marine vehicles such as some racing boats including catamarans with hydrofoils and WIG (Wing-In-Ground) effect crafts. In the present paper, the effects of free surface both on 2-D airfoils and 3-D wings moving steadily over free water surface are investigated in detail. The iterative numerical method (IBEM) based on the Green's theorem allows separating the airfoil or wing problems and the free surface problem. Both the 2-D airfoil surface (or 3-D wing surface) and the free surface are modeled with constant strength dipole and constant strength source panels. While the kinematic boundary condition is applied on the airfoil surface or on the wing surface, the linearized kinematic-dynamic combined condition is applied on the free surface. The source strengths on the free surface are expressed in terms of perturbation potential by applying the linearized free surface conditions. No radiation condition is enforced for downstream boundary in 2-D airfoil and 3-D wing cases and transverse boundaries in only 3-D wing case. The method is first applied to 2-D NACA0004 airfoil with angle of attack of four degrees to validate the method. The effects of height of 2-D airfoil from free surface and Froude number on lift and drag coefficients are investigated. The method is also applied to NACA0015 airfoil for another validation with experiments in case of ground effect. The lift coefficient with different clearance values are compared with those of experiments. The numerical method is then applied to NACA0012 airfoil with the angle of attack of five degrees and the effects of Froude number and clearance on the lift and drag coefficients are discussed. The method is lastly applied to a rectangular 3-D wing and the effects of Froude number on wing performance have been investigated. The numerical results for wing moving under free surface have also been compared with those of the same wing moving above free surface. It has been found that the free surface can affect the wing performance significantly.

Long-term measurement of total mercury (TM) and dissolved gaseous mercury (DGM) were performed in Yangsuri marsh. Average TM and DGM concentrations were $2.0{\pm}2.0$ ng/L and $15.0{\pm}2.8$ pg/L, respectively, indicating that only 2.6% of TM existed as the form of DGM in Yangsuri marsh. While TM did not show the seasonal variation a statistically high DGM concentration was observed in warm season, indicating that DGM was effectively produced by strong solar radiation and high water temperature. There was no relationship between TM and DGM concentrations in Yangsuri marsh, as observed in other studies. DGM in Yangsuri marsh was supersaturated for most of sampling period; therefore, one can conclude that $Hg^0$ in water surface can readily volatilize to the atmosphere.

In this paper, the dual-ground, high-gain and broad-band internal antenna has been designed and fabricated for 4th-generation mobile communication applications. The optimized antenna was fabricated using photolithography method. The antenna consist of the patches, antenna and system ground, and a probe. The patch and ground plane were separated by air. In order to prevent the demage due to radiator swaying, the foams(${\varepsilon}_r{\fallingdotseq}1.03$) were used to fix the patches and ground. The conductor for the radiators was 0.05 [mm] thick. The measured input return loss showed less than -10 [dB] at the broadband from 3499 to 4743 [MHz]. It's measured bandwidth was 1244 [MHz]. The radiation patterns measured at 3400, 3600, 3800, 4000 and 4200 [MHz] showed Omni-directional characteristics. The gain in the E-plane and H-plane was 4.7 ~ 6.1 and 2.1 ~ 4.3 [dBi], respectively.

Background: We evaluated the feasibility and outcomes of pulmonary resection and mediastinal node dissection (MND) by video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) following neoadjuvant therapy for stage IIIA N2 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods: From November 2009 to December 2013, a total of 35 consecutive patients with pathologically or radiologically confirmed stage IIIA N2 lung cancer underwent pulmonary resection and MND, performed by a single surgeon, following neoadjuvant chemoradiation. Preoperative patient characteristics, surgical outcomes, postoperative drainage, postoperative complications, and mortality were retrospectively analyzed. Results: VATS was completed in 17 patients. Thoracotomy was performed in 18 patients, with 13 planned thoracotomies and 5 conversions from the VATS approach. The median age was $62.7{\pm}7.9years$ in the VATS group and $60{\pm}8.7years$ in the thoracotomy group. The patients in the VATS group tended to have a lower diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (p=0.077). There were no differences between the 2 groups in the method of diagnosing the N stage, tumor response and size after induction, tumor location, or histologic type. Complete resection was achieved in all patients. More total and mediastinal nodes were dissected in the VATS group than in the thoracotomy group (p<0.05). The median chest tube duration was 5.3 days (range, 1 to 33 days) for the VATS group and 7.2 days (range, 2 to 28 days) for the thoracotomy group. The median follow-up duration was 36.3 months. The 5-year survival rates were 76% in the VATS group and 57.8% in the thoracotomy group (p=0.39). The 5-year disease-free survival rates were 40.3% and 38.9% in the VATS and thoracotomy groups, respectively (p=0.8). Conclusion: The VATS approach following neoadjuvant treatment was safe and feasible in selected patients for the treatment of stage IIIA N2 NSCLC, with no compromise of oncologic efficacy.
Although fruit grown under sustainable farming conditions is believed to be healthier for humans than is fruit grown by conventional cultivation, little scientific information on the characteristics of fruit produced using these two farming systems is available in Korea. Therefore, weinvestigated fruit quality, total polyphenolic contents, and anti-oxidant activities in 'Niitaka' pears grown under sustainable and conventional farming management systems. Treatmentsincluded use of a chitin compost admixed with liquid chitin fertilizer (plot A), and use of a chitin compost admixed with liquid chitin fertilizer treated by infrared radiation (plot B). Plots C and D used conventional management systems. Fruit qualities at harvest differed between both sustainable plots A and B and the conventional plots C and D. The average values of firmness and total polyphenolic content in fruit harvested from sustainable plots were not significantly greaterthan those of fruit grownin conventional plots, after 60 days of storage. Fruit grown in all plots had low polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activity at harvest but this increased during storage. Fruit from sustainable plot B showed an increased electron donating ability compared with fruit grown using the other systems.
