  • In this paper, we studied about the radiated emission of EFT(Electrical Fast Transient)/Burst signal, referenced IEC-61000-4-4 of the international EMC standard and its effect on EUT(Equipment Under the Test) when EFT/Burst signal (Conducted noise) induced on a power cable to EUT. Firstly, we set up test sample by the standard and +4 kV standard signal is induced by EFT/Burst signal generator with 1 m length power cable for 1 minute. Consequently, we found not only induced EFT/Burst signal along power line, but also directly radiated emission signal from EFT/Burst signal generator (Radiated emission noise of EFT/Burst). The radiated emission signal of EFT/Burst was 30 dB which is higher than limit of CISPR 22 which is international EMC standard. Moreover, we measured the electric field strength by changing distance from maximum radiated emission point to electric field strength tester. As a result, this electric field strength was 23 V/m which is higher than international EMC standard test level(CISPR 24). Therefore, it was confirmed that the probability of malfunction may be high when radiated emission of EFT/Burst noise exists near the EUT.

  • The immunity testing in this study was performed to examine the conducted immunity and radiated immunity in medical instrumentation. Experiments were performed to assess the conducted emission and radiated emission of medical instrumentation such as MRI, ultrasound system, and electro surgical unit etc. The emission testing revolves around conducted emissions (high-frequency currents) on power lines and signal cables. Emission testing also looks at the output of energy through the air (called radiated emissions) and analyzes the strength of those radio-frequency signals generated unintentionally by the electrical medical device that is under test. Finally, this study would provide significant data for furture research or electromagnetic interference and compatibility test in medical instrumentation.

  • This paper describes the test results of radiated compatibility with Ariane 5 launcher performed on the COMS Satellite test facility. Firstly, the Radiated Emission test results are analyzed in compliance with the Radiated Susceptibility requirement specification of Ariane 5 launcher. The satellite nominal operation is monitored during injection a radiated electric field corresponding to the launcher emissions levels in critical frequency ranges. And also, E-field are measured through a probe located at external units level in order to assess the EMC safety margin in Radiated mode.

  • It is being more and more difficult to suppress emissions from electronic products using PCB(Printed Circuit Board) to the limit. Therefore, the exact evaluation of the emission from PCB has been more important to reduce the required time and the cost at the design phase of the products, especially on board ship's equipments. This research has evaluated the emission radiated from PCB based on the theoretical approach of SDA(Spectral Domain Analysis), which is available to analyze microwave stripline, coplanar line, patch antenna, etc. According to the theoretical results, it has been clearly shown that the emission radiated from PCB is reduced as the thickness of PCB is thinner, the permittivity of PCB is higher, the length of stripline is shorter, and the frequency is lower.

  • Radiated emission / susceptibility performance of the KSLV-I 2nd stage which are controlled from the unit level to the system level should be examined and managed all over the frequency ranges in order to ensure the normal operation of the SC, the 1st stage of the KSLV-I, ground support equipments which are installed at the space center, and other wireless communication networks. Not only unintentional electric field emissions from the KSLV-I system and its subsystems should be restricted to the levels less than the limits specified in the EMC requirements, but also proper test and evaluation method should be established, respectively. In this paper, radiated emission/susceptibility test limits, method, and test results of the KSLV-I 2nd stage engineering model are presented.

  • We present experimental demonstrations of electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) structures for the wideband suppression of radiated emissions from a power bus in high-speed printed circuit boards (PCBs). In most of the PCB designs, a parallel plate waveguide (PPW) structure is employed for a power bus. This structure significantly produces the wideband-radiated emissions resulting from parallel plate modes. To suppress the parallel plate modes in the wideband frequency range, the power buses based on the electromagnetic bandgap structure with a defected ground structure (DGS) are presented. DGSs are applied to a metal plane that is connected to a rectangular EBG patch by using a via structure. The use of the DGS increases the characteristic impedance value of a unit cell, thereby substantially improving the suppression bandwidth of the radiated emissions. It is experimentally demonstrated that the DGS-EBG structure significantly mitigates the radiated emissions over the frequency range of 0.5 GHz to 2 GHz as compared to the PPW.

  • This paper investigates the radiated emission from the enclosure aperture, when the enclosure contains a 4-layer PCB and the PCB is driven by a pulse train additive with the switching noise from an active device. Radiated emission characteristics with and without switch noise cases, respectively, are analyzed by changing the PCB location and the slot direction. The equivalent circuit of a DC-DC converter is used to simulate the switching noise of active device. Also, MWS simulation results are directly connected to the ADS simulator as a 2-port block. The simulated results are compared with the measured ones.

  • We analyze the radiated emission and mutual coupling problem from a single microstrip transmission line and double signal traces with various ground patterns. In this paper, it is shown that the reduction of the radiated emission from the signal traces can be accomplished by using the novel and compact patterns on the ground planes in a specific frequency band. The accuracy and validation of radiation mechanism from the transmission line on a novel ground plane are evaluated and explained by using a commercially available software and experiment, respectively.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm to improve the correlation between giga-hertz transverse electromagnetic (GTEM) cell and open area test site (OATS). It is based on the dipole modeling process of an unknown source object in a GTEM cell and on the evaluation of the approximate far field equations correlated with measured GTEM powers at output port of the GTEM cell. In this algorithm, the relative phase differences between dipole moments play an important part in modeling the test object as a set of dipoles and offer stable calculation of emission values. The radiated emission test using this algorithm requires fifteen orientations of equipment under test, but the increased orientations as compared with the previous method have little effect on the time needed for testing. Radiation from a notebook computer has been tested for statistical analysis of the correlation between GTEM data and OATS data. The emission test results of the notebook computer show that the mean, the standard deviation, and the correlation coefficient are -0.62, 1.99, and +0.85, respectively. These figures indicate that this algorithm provides improved accuracy in the measurement of electromagnetic emissions over the previous method.
