  • The differential quadrature method (DQM) is applied to computation of the eigenvalues of the equations governing in plane and out-of-plane buckling. In-plane buckling and twist-buckling under uniformly distributed radial loads are investigated by this method. Critical loads are calculated for various end conditions and opening angles. Results are compared with existing exact solutions where available. The differential quadrature method gives good accuracy even when only a limited number of grid points is used. New results are given for two sets of boundary conditions not previously considered for this problem clamped-clamped and clamped simply supported ends.

  • Polymer nanofibers can be generated by a electrospinning process. The process involves electrically charged jet of polymer solutions evolving from a droplet. The jet stretches in vertical direction due to the difference between charged particle and constant current located at the collector, while the Coulomb and viscoelastic forces start to contribute to radial and azimuthal (torsional) stretching. In this paper, the unstable dynamics of the liquid polymer jet is examined experimentally and theoretically. A complex viscoelastic rheological model has been adopted to analyze the behavior of a charged liquid jet. The model includes complex phenomena of stress relaxation of the liquid jet resulting from the competing force components. The experimental data of the jet paths captured by high-speed videocamera also confirm the similar behavior with the predictions.

  • In this paper a recently developed scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM) is applied to simulate stress concentration for two-dimensional structures. In addition, a simple and independent formulation for evaluating the coefficients, not only of the singular term but also higher order non-singular terms, of the stress fields near crack-tip is presented. The formulation is formed by comparing the displacement along the radial points ahead of the crack-tip with that of standard Williams' eigenfunction solution for the crack-tip. The validity of the formulation is examined by numerical examples with different geometries for a range of crack sizes. The results show good agreement with available solutions in literatures. Based on the results of the study, it is conformed that the proposed numerical method can be applied to simulate stress concentrations in both cracked and uncracked structure components more easily with relatively coarse and simple model than other computational methods.

  • An analytical method is presented to investigate electromagnetothermoelastic behaviors of a hollow sphere composed of functionally graded piezoelectric material (FGPM), placed in a uniform magnetic field, subjected to electric, thermal and mechanical loads. For the case that material properties obey an identical power law in the radial direction of the FGPM hollow sphere, exact solutions for electric displacement, stresses, electric potential and perturbation of magnetic field vector in the FGPM hollow sphere are determined by using the infinitesimal theory of electromagnetothermoelasticity. Some useful discussion and numerical examples are presented to show the significant influence of material inhomogeneity. The aim of this research is to understand the effect of composition on electromagnetothermoelastic stresses and to design optimum FGPM hollow spheres.

  • In this paper static analysis of FGM cylinders subjected to internal and external pressure was carried out by a mesh-free method. In this analysis MLS shape functions are used for approximation of displacement field in the weak form of equilibrium equation and essential boundary conditions are imposed by transformation method. Mechanical properties of cylinders were assumed to be variable in the radial direction. Two types of cylinders were analyzed in this work. At first cylinders with infinite length were considered and results obtained for these cylinders were compared with analytical solutions and a very good agreement was seen between them. Then the proposed mesh-free method was used for analysis of cylinders with finite length and two different types of boundary conditions. Results obtained from these analyses were compared with results of finite element analyses and a very good agreement was seen between them.

  • This paper presents an efficient algorithm for loss reduction of distribution system by automatic sectionalizing switch operation in large scale distribution systems of radial type. Simulated Annealing algorithm among optimization techniques can avoid escape from local minima by accepting improvements in cost, but the use of this algorithm is also responsible for an excessive computation time requirement. To overcome this major limitation of Simulated Annealing algorithm, we may use advanced Simulated Annealing algorithm. All constaints are divided into two constraint group by using perturbation mechanism and penalty factor, so all trail solutions are feasible. The polynomial-time cooling schedule is used which is based on the statistics calculation during the search. This approaches results in saving CPU time. Numerical examples demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

  • In this paper, the characteristic of slotless permanent magnet brushless motors analyze and compare parallel with radial way. This paper derive magnetic field solutions due to the PM. Torque, flux linkage and back emf are then derived. The results are shown in good conformity with those obtained from the commonly used finite element analysis.

  • Evolution of the Cosmos (ARCSEC). We have presented the evolutionary status of seven detached double line spectroscopic eclipsing binaries which are CD Tau, CM Lac, CW CMa, HS Hya, IT Cas, KM Hya, and ZZ Boo because the component stars in the binary systems still act as a single star. We determined the absolute dimensions of the binary systems using photometric and spectroscopic solutions by analyzing of the light curves and radial velocity curves. We chose evolutionary tracks of these binary systems. Using the luminosities, effective temperatures and masses. Finally we obtained ages and metallicity of the stars.

  • This article addresses an efficient heuristic-based approach to assign static shunt capacitors along radial distribution networks using the artificial bee colony algorithm. The objective function is adapted to enhance the overall system static voltage stability index and to achieve maximum net yearly savings. Load variations have been considered to optimally scope the fixed and switched capacitors required. The numerical results are compared with those obtained using recent heuristic methods and show that the proposed approach is capable of generating high-grade solutions and validated viability.

  • This paper desfcribes the formulation for the analysis of the free vibration of a circular cylindrical shell with elastic supports by the transfer influence coefficient method. This method was developed on the base of the concept of the successive transmission of dynamic influence coefficients. The analysis algorithm for circular cylindrical shell elastically restrained by springs, which plays an important role in many industrial fields, is discussed. The supporting springs have the axial, circumferential, radial and rotational spring constants uniformly distributed along the circumference of the shell. The simple computational results on a personal computer demonstrate the validity of the present method, that is, the numerical high accuracy, the high speed analysis method and the flexibility for programming, compared with results of the transfer matrixmethod and reference. We also confirmed that the present algorithm could obtain the solutions of high accuracy for system with a number of intermediate rigid supports. And we could easily treat the intermediate support and all boundary conditions by adequately varying the values of spring constants.
