Various kinds of winding arrangements can be used to enable fault current limiters (FCL) to tolerate higher forces without resulting in a substantial increase in construction and fabrication costs. In this paper, a distributed winding arrangement is investigated in terms of its effects on the short-circuit forces in a three-phase FCL. The force magnitudes of the AC supplied windings are calculated by employing a finite element-based model in the time stepping procedure. The leakage flux and radial and axial force magnitudes obtained from the simulation are compared to those obtained from a conventional winding arrangement. The comparison shows that the distributed winding arrangement significantly reduces the radial and, especially, the axial force magnitudes.
The round HTS wire is easier to handle than the rectangular HTS tape. This paper describes the coupling losses of the round HTS wires by finite element method. Effect of the round HTS wire are considered. Two types of Filaments arrangement, stacked filament and radial filaments, are considered. Calculation results show that coupling losses of the round HTS wire vary only a little with the direction of external magnetic field.

In this paper, radial sheared eletronic shearopgraphy was studied in order to measure vibration characteristics of circular or radial symmetric objects. We calculated amplitude of vibration by using eletro-optic holography theory, and utilized a porror prism for optical arrangement of sheared two images in this experiment. In this case, the data measured by shearing interferometer give us a distribution of the gradient of vibration amplitude. This developed system is applied to symmetical objects such as fans of airconditioner and circular plates to test vibration characteristics.
Numerical analysis was carried out to investigate performance and combustion characteristics of KSR-III liquid rocket engine with several types of baffle. To evaluate the change of performance and combustion characteristics with several types of baffle, the first numerical calculations were performed about baffle tab, radial blade baffle, and hub-and-spoke baffle. Then radial blade and hub-and-spoke baffle were determined to design two types of the KSR-III engine with baffles. Also to investigate the effect of injector arrangements and baffle positions, two types of radial blade baffle were calculated then numerical calculations were carried out with changing axial length of radial blade I, II and hub-and-spoke baffle. While axial length of baffle effected to performance very small, injector arrangement effected to performance largely through calculations of radial blade I, II. From the viewpoint of combustion instability, hub-and-spoke baffle controlled combustion instability effectively and there was the performance of hub-and-spoke baffle between radial blade I and II.
Molecular dynamics simulations were performed to understand the structural arrangement of water molecules around highly charged nanoparticles under aqueous conditions. The effect of two highly charged nanoparticles on the solvation charge asymmetry has been examined. We calculated the radial distribution functions of the components of water molecules around nanoparticles which have four charge types at two different salt concentrations. Even though the distributions of water molecules surrounding a sodium ion and a chloride ion are hardly affected by the charges of nanoparticles and the salt concentrations, those around highly charged nanoparticles are strongly influenced by the charges of nanoparticles, but hardly by the charges of nanoparticles and salt concentrations. We find that the distributions of hydrogen atoms in water molecules around one highly charged nanoparticle are dependent on the magnitude of the nanoparticle charge.

During manufacturing thick composite cylinders, large thermal residual stresses are developed and induce catastrophic interlaminar failures. Since the residual stresses are dependent on many process parameters, such as temperature distribution during cure, cure shrinkage, winding tension, and migration of fibers, calculation of the residual stresses is very difficult. Therefore a radial-cut method have been used to measure the residual stresses in the composite cylinders. But the conventional radial-cut method needs to know numerous material properties which are not only troublesome to obtain but also vary with change of fiber arrangement during consolidation. In this paper, a new radial-cut method with cut-cylinder-bending test was proposed and the measured residual stresses were compared with calculated thermal residual stresses. It was found that the new radial-cut method which does not need to know any of material properties gave better estimation of residual stresses regardless of radial variation of material properties. Additionally, interlaminar tensile strength could be obtained by the cut-cylinder-bending test.

To improve the performance of blanket: maximizing the tritium breeding rate (TBR) for tritium self-sufficiency, and minimizing the Dose of backplate for radiation protection, most previous studies are based on manual corrections to adjust the blanket structure to achieve optimization design, but it is difficult to find an optimal structure and tends to be trapped by local optimizations as it involves multiphysics field design, which is also inefficient and time-consuming process. The artificial intelligence (AI) maybe is a potential method for the optimization design of the blanket. So, this paper aims to develop an intelligent optimization method based on an improved multi-objective NSGA-III algorithm and an adaptive BP neural network to solve these problems mentioned above. This method has been applied on optimizing the radial arrangement of a conceptual design of CFETR HCSB blanket. Finally, a series of optimal radial arrangements are obtained under the constraints that the temperature of each component of the blanket does not exceed the limit and the radial length remains unchanged, the efficiency of the blanket optimization design is significantly improved. This study will provide a clue and inspiration for the application of artificial intelligence technology in the optimization design of blanket.

Combustion characteristics of a KSR-III liquid rocket engine with split-triplet (F-O-O-F) type injector elements are investigated numerically from the viewpoints of engine performance and combustion flowfield. To evaluate numerical analysis of liquid rocket engine with radial type injector arrangement, 2-D axisymmetric and 3-D calculations are carried out and the prediction of engine performance for design and off-design conditions is in a good agreement with hot-firing tests. According to 2-D axisymmetric and 3-D calculations, the prediction error is 3∼5 % from the standpoint of performance. Numerical results of combustion characteristics calculated through 3-D analysis agree well with hot-firing tests qualitatively at injector plate. Decreasing impinging angle and changing radial type injector arrangement to H type injector arrangement reduce effectively local high-temperature region. Also, it is examined that those affect the performance seriously. In conclusion, it is revealed that both injector arrangement and impinging angle are critical parameters to affect the performance and combustion characteristics of the liquid rocket engine.

In the preceding tests of Sub.(Ⅰ) engines, it was observed that the heat resistant capability of the engines was not enough, and the design of Sub.(Ⅰ) engines was modified to satisfy the mission requirement. Sub.(Ⅰ) Mod. engines have three major design parameters - the arrangement of main injectors, the impinging angle of main injectors and thermal barrier coating. More than 20 experiments were carried out to evaluate engine performance and heat resistance capability with respect to design parameters. Analysing the result of Sub.(Ⅰ) and Sub.(Ⅰ) Mod. engine tests, it is found that the decreased impinging angle, adopting the H-type arrangement(rather than radial type arrangement), and adopting the thermal barrier coating can increase heat resistance capacity substantially. The result show that the performance variation by design change is below 5 percents and the radial type arrangement of injectors has higher performance than H-type. However, the performance of 15°impinging angle engine is higher than that of 20°impinging angle engine, which is inconsistent to our expectation. High frequency instabilities may cause such phenomenon, which will be verified by a series of tests.

High-speed spindle systems typically employ angular contact ball bearings, which can resist both axial and radial loading, and exhibit high precision and durability. We investigated the effects of the arrangement of the angular contact ball bearings on the dynamics of high-speed spindle systems. The spindle dynamics were studied with a number of spindle-bearing models, and the location of the bearings was varied, along with the rotational speed and the preload. A finite element spindle model and a bearing model were used, and simulated data showed that the bearing arrangement significantly affected the spindle dynamics. Furthermore, the main effects were due to the cross coupling terms between the transverse and rotational motions of the ball bearings. The coupling stiffness terms were found to influence the spindle dynamics, depending on the mode shapes. An extensive discussion is provided on the effects of the bearing arrangement on the dynamics of the spindle.
