  • Millimeter-wave tracking radars should be operated in various environmental restrictions, thus they demand more computing power and smaller size compared to conventional tracking radars. This paper presents the design and implementation of the compact power supply for millimeter-wave tracking radar applications. To meet requirements of low voltage/high current and voltage accuracy for FPGA/DSP digital circuits, Point of Load (POL) converters are used in order to enhance power density and system efficiency. LDO (Low Dropout) is applied for the output voltage under the light load condition, then the single-input-multi-output power supply with max power of 375 W and 8 outputs is developed. The proposed power supply achieves output voltage accuracy of ±2 % and noise level of <50 mVpp % under full load conditions.

  • This paper introduces an asynchronous multiple radar fusion algorithm for space object tracking. To estimate orbital motion of space object, a multiple radar scenario which jointly measures single object with different sampling time indices is described. STK/ODTK is utilized to determine realization of orbital motion and joint coverage of multiple radars. Then, asynchronous fusion algorithm is adapted to enhance the estimation performance of orbital motion during which multiple radars measure the same time instances. Monte-Carlo simulation results demonstrate that the proposed asynchronous multi-sensor fusion scheme better than single linearized Kalman filter in an aspect of root mean square error.

  • A distributed system for tracking multiple targets with a pair of multifunction radars is proposed and implemented. The system performs track-to-track association and track-to-track fusion at the fusion center to form fused tracks. The association and fusion are performed using target state information linked via communication nodes from a radar at a remote location. Many factors can affect the track-to-track association and fusion performances. They include delays in data transmission buffer of the remote radar, the error in estimating time-stamp of the remote radar, and the gating in track-to-track association. The effects on association and fusion performances due to these factors are investigated through extensive numerical simulations.

  • Three HF ocean radar stations were installed at the Soya Strait in the Sea of Okhotsk in order to monitor the Soya Warm Current. Frequency of the HF radar is 13.9 MHz, and range and azimuth resolutions are 3 km and 5 deg., respectively. Surface current velocity observed by the radars shows good agreement with drifting buoy and shipboard ADCP observations. The velocity of Soya Warm Current reaches its maximum, which is about 1 m/s, in summer, and becomes weak in winter. The surface transport across the strait shows a significant correlation with the sea level difference along the strait.

  • Radar task scheduling deals with the assignment of task to efficiently enhance the radar performance on the limited resource environment. In this paper, total weighted tardiness is adopted as the objective function of task scheduling in operation of multiple multi-function radars. To take into account real-time implementability, heuristic index-based methods are presented and investigated. Numerical simulations for generic search and track scenarios are performed to evaluate the proposed methods, in particular investigating the effectiveness of multi-radar operation concepts.

  • S-band, C-band and X-band radars are used for weather observation purposes. Since the Meteorological Administration, the Ministry of Environment, and Republic of Korea Air Force operate radars according to the purpose of observation by departments, the installation site and observation characteristics are different. From a meteorological point of view, blind observational areas in the low level with an elevation of less than 1 km around the mountainous terrain near Jirisan and Taebaeksan. Assuming a small radar installation, we simulated low-level observations. In order to monitor dangerous weather in North Korea, we analyzed the precipitation of North Korea and simulated a large radar network. Finally, a radar network for Korean Peninsula was proposed.

  • This paper proposed an realtime total monitoring platform for various kind of multi weather radars to analyze and predict weather phenomenons and prevent meteorological disasters. Our platform is designed to process each weather radar data on each radar site to minimize overloads from conversion and transmission of large volumed radar data, and to set observers up the definitive radar data via public framework server separately. By proposed method, weather radar data having different spatial or temporal resolutions can be automatically synchronized with there own spatio-temporal domains on public GIS platform having only one spatio-temporal criterion. Simulation result shows that our method facilitates the realtime weather monitoring from weather radars having various spatio-temporal resolutions without other data synchronization or assimilation processes. Moreover, since this platform doesn't require some additional computer equipments or high-technical mechanisms it has economic efficiency for it's systemic constructions.

  • The modern Electronic Warfare Receivers are required to the current radar technologies like the Low Probability of Intercept(LPI) radars to avoid detection. LPI radars have features of intra-pulse modulation differ from existing radar signals. This features require counterworks such as signal confirmation and identification. Hence this paper presents a study on intra-pulse modulation recognition. The proposed method automatically recognizes intra-pulse modulation types such as LFM and NLFM using classifiers extracted from the features of each intra-pulse modulation. Several simulations are also conducted and the simulation results indicate the performance of the given method.

  • It is very crucial activities that Korean army have to detect and recognize enemy's locations and types of weapon of their artillery firstly for effective operation of friendly force's artillery weapons during wartime. For these activities, one of the most critical artillery weapon systems is the anti-artillery radar (hereafter; radars) for immediate counter-fire operations against the target. So, in early wartime these radar's roles are very important for minimizing friendly force's damage because arbiters have to recognize a several enemy's artillery positions quickly and then to take an action right away. Up to date, Republic of Korea Army for tactical artillery operations only depends on individual commander's intuition and capability. Therefore, we propose these radars allocation model based on integer programming that combines ArcGIS (Geographic Information System) analysis data and each radar's performances which include allowable specific ranges of altitude, azimuth (FOV; field of view) and distances for target detection, and weapons types i.e., rocket, mortars and cannon ammo etc. And we demonstrate the effectiveness of their allocation's solution of available various types of radar asset through several experimental scenarios. The proposed model can be ensured the optimal detection coverage, the enhancement of artillery radar's operations and assisting a quick decision for commander finally.

  • The pulse amplitude of a search radar signal received by an ES system is not constant pulse by pulse because of the radar's scan characteristics. The variation of the pulse amplitude causes the ES detection loss in the ES system. Therefore, the ES detection range equation should consider the ES detection loss caused by the search radar's scan characteristics. In this paper, we theoretically analyze the ES detection loss for the circular scar and propose the model to evaluate it quantitatively. The experiment results for the real search radar signals demonstrate that the proposed model is suitable for the evaluation model of the ES detection loss related to the circular scan of radars.
