Multiple Register Files for Fast Context Switching in Real-Time Systems (실시간 시스템에서 빠른 문맥 전환을 위한 다중 레지스터 파일)

  • Recently complexity of embedded software cause to be used real-time operating system (RTOS) to implement various functions in the embedded system. And also, according to requirement of complex functions in embedded systems, the number as well as complexity of tasks get increased continuously. In case that many tasks collaborated in a microprocessor, context switching time between tasks is a overhead waisting a CPU resource. Therefore the time of task context switching is an important factor that affects performance of RTOS. In this paper, we concentrate on the improvement of task context switch for reducing overhead and achieving fast response time in RTOS. To achieve these goal, we suggest multiple register files and task context switching algorithm. By reducing the context switch overhead, we try to ease scheduling and assure fast response times in multitasking environment. As a result, the context switch overhead decreased by 8~16% depend on the number of register files, and some task set which are not schedulable with single register file are schedulable due to that decrease with multiple register files.

  • The real-time operating system(RTOS) simulator, one of the tools provided by RTOS development environment, allows users to develop and debug application programs even before the target hardware is ready. Thus, most of commercial RTOS development environments provide with RTOS simulator for the purpose. But they are implemented to simulate only functional aspects on a host system, so that it is not possible to estimate execution time of application programs on the target hardware. Since the real-time system has to complete program executions in predetermined time, the RTOS simulator that can estimate the execution time is yeW useful in the development phase. In this study, we develop a machine instruction-level RTOS simulator that is able to estimate execution time of application programs on a target hardware, and prove its functionality and accuracy by using test .programs.

  • The fast processing ability of an RTOS (Real Time Operating System) is one of important factors in determining the performance of embedded systems. With the development of multimedia and telecommunication technology, the higher level of performance environments is required. Moreover there is some difficulty in improving the performance of an RTOS which is based on a microprocessor. In this paper, we propose a hardware architecture to implement some functions of uC/OS-II as a target RTOS for the purpose of its performance improvement. The proposed architecture for uC/OS-II is implemented and analyzed with the performance comparison.

  • GPS (Global Positioning System) is the most ideal navigation system which can be used on the earth irrespective of time and weather conditions. GPS has been used for various applications such as construction, survey, environment, communication, intelligent vehicles and airplanes and the needs of GPS are increasing in these days. This paper deals with the design and implementation of the RTOS (Real-Time Operating System) for a GPS navigation computer in the GPS/INS integrated navigation system. The RTOS provides the optimal environment for execution and the base platform to develop GPS application programs. The key facilities supplied by the RTOS developed in this paper are priority-based preemptive scheduling policy, dynamic memory management, intelligent interrupt handling, timers and IPC, etc. We also verify the correct operations of all application tasks of the GPS navigation computer on the RTOS and evaluate the performance by measuring the overhead of using the RTOS services.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation of C standard library for real-time operating system Q+, that is being developed for the internet appliance. The C library in the real-time operating system should be defined according to the standard interface and support the concurrent execution of threads. The implemented C standard library is reentrant and follows POSIX.l standard interface. And, the C standard library functions, which are adequate to the Q+ application and commonly provided by commercial real-time operating systems, are selected among POSIX.l standard functions. The C standard library is implemented on the Q+ kernel and D-TV set-top box according to the implementation sequence, which is determined by analyzing the relation of function calls.

  • 본 논문에서는 임베디드 자바 가상 대신(Embedded Java Virtual Machine)과 임베디드 실시간 운영체제(Embedded Real-Time Operating System)인 iRTOS$^{TM}$를 통합하기 위한, 설계 및 구현 내용을 기술하고자 한다. 인터넷 가전을 위한 실시간 운영체제 기반의 통합 환경은 각 가정에서 사용하는 정보 가전 제품들을 인터넷에 연결하여 사용함으로써 사용자에게 좀 더 효율적이며. 편리한 서비스를 제공할 수 있다. 또한 어떠한 플랫폼에도 구애 받지 않고 동작 할 수 있는 자바를 실행하기 위한 내장형 JVM 의 추가로, 기존의 플랫폼 의존적인 방법을 벗어나 어떠한 가전 기기상해서도 자바로 개발된 모든 기능들을 동일한 조건으로 동작시킬 수 있다는 장점을 갖는다. 본 논문에서는 통합 설계서의 세부 내용과 통합 방법에 대해 언급하고자 한다.

  • In this study, Real-Time Operating System(RTOS) and 3-D collision avoidance algorithm are implemented to three different Miciro Controller Unit(MCU)s and their performances compared. We selected Microchip Technology's ATmega2560, STM's ARM Cortex-M3 and ARM Cortex-M4, because they are widely used. FreeRTOS, an open-source operating system, was also used. The 3D collision avoidance algorithm consists of the vertical and the horizontal avoidance algorithm, which is implemented using C++. The performances of the MCUs were compared with respect to used memory and calculation time. As a result, Cortex-M4's calculation time was the fastest and ATmega2560 used least memory.

  • As multiple functions arc required in a robot controller, RTOS(Real Time Operating System) should be adopted to manage complex situations, such as choosing most urgent task among competing ones. In this paper, we implemented RTAI(Real Time Application Interface) based robot controller for wafer handling robots including graphic simulator. We showed how multiple tasks are organized and also explained in detail about task priorities and execution periods. Finally, we presented simulation results.

  • Shipping and logistics safety, security system is strengthening worldwide, the development of shipping and logistics safety security core technology for national security logistics system construction has been carried out. In addition, it is necessary to localize the Array Detection System, which is a core component of the container search machine, to cope with the 100% pre-inspection of the container scheduled for 2018 in the United States. In this paper, we propose a test software program developed by using TI-RTOS (Texas Instruments - Real Time Operating System) with a test digital signal processing board which is developed self development.
