The objective of this study was to compare the textural properties and sensory evaluation of Injulmi, a traditional Korean waxy rice cake, added with 10, 20 and 30% of RS3-type resistant starch. RS3-type resistant starch was prepared from nonwaxy rice(Odaebyeo) starch by autoclaving-cooling cycle. The RS yield of RS3-type resistant starch was 9.10%. By increasing the addition level of RS3-type resistant starch, the hardness and adhesiveness of Injulmi increased as measured by using a rheometer. Hunter color L and a values of Injulmi added with RS3-type resistant starch were increased, but b value was decreased. In case of sensory evaluation, the hardness of Injulmi added with RS3-type resistant starch was higher than that of non-added Injulmi. The overall duality of Injulmi added with RS3-type resistant starch by sensory evaluation was negatively correlated with the hardness measured by rheometer(p<.0.05).

In view of the severe energy constraint in sensor networks, it is important to use the error control scheme of the energy efficiently. In this paper, we presented FEC (Forward Error Correcting) codes in terms of their power consumption. One method of FEC is RS (Reed-Solomon) coding, which uses block codes. RS codes work by adding extra redundancy to the data. The encoded data can be stored or transmitted. It could have errors introduced, when the encoded data is recovered. The added redundancy allows a decoder to detect which parts of the received data is corrupted, and corrects them. The number of errors which are able to be corrected by RS code can determine by added redundancy. We could predict the lifetime of RS codes which transmitted at 32 byte a 1 minutes. RS(15, 13), RS(31, 27), RS(63, 57), RS(127,115), and RS(255,239) can keep the days of 138, 132, 126, 111, and 103 respectively.

We prepared a functional red soybean curd (RS) from Ang-Khak according to various concentration (RS1 : red rice powder 0.1 g/10 mL, RS2: 0.2 g/10 mL, RS3: 0.3 g/10 mL, RS4: 0.4 g/10 mL, RS5: 0.5 g/10 mL, CS: control soybean curd). During the storage period of red soybean curd, pH, acidity, and microbial counts showed a minimum change in RS5. And in the case of color, all groups have slightly increased in yellowness except RS1. In the case of texture, hardness, gumminess, and springiness appeared to be increased for a few days and then fell down. As water drained out of soybean curd during storage at 1$0^{\circ}C$, it became so stiff and then rotten that the hardness of soybean curd increased in the early stage and then decreased after all. After a week, we could find a better preservative effect of RS than CS. Resultly, we need more efforts to prolong the shelf-life of soybean curd with applying the functionality of Ang-Khak.
The RS-232C (Unbalanced serial) and RS-485 (balanced serial) are standard in serial communication. RS-485 uses a differential electrical signal, as opposed to unbalanced signals referenced to ground with the RS-232. Differential transmission, which uses two lines each for transmit and receive signal results in greater noise immunity and longer distances as compared to the RS-232C. The greater noise immunity and distance are big advantages in industrial environments. In general, one protocol on one serial interface is very normal application. In this study, we implemented multi protocols on one serial RS-485 interface and examine the performance and result with hanging multi equipments.

In wireless sensor networks, the data transmitted from the sensor nodes are susceptible to corruption by errors which caused of noisy channels and other factors. In view of the severe energy constraint in Sensor Networks, it is important to use the error control scheme of the energy efficiently. In this paper, we presented RS (Reed-Solomon) codes in terms of their BER performance and power consumption. The results of experiment validate the performance of proposed method to provide high degree of reliability in low-power communication. We could predict the lifetime of RS codes which transmitted at 32 byte a 1 minutes. RS(15, 13), RS(31, 27), RS(63, 57), RS(127,115), and RS(255,239) can keep the days of 173.7, 169.1, 163.9, 150.7, and 149.7 respectively. The evaluation based on packet reception ratio (PRR) indicates that the RS(255,239) extends a sensor node's communication range by up about 3 miters.
Rhizoctonia solani [Thanatephorus cucumeris (frank) Donk], one of the major soil-borne plant pathogens with world-wide distribution, can cause great damages on various crops. In Korea, sheath blight on rice caused by this pathogen is the major concern, and active studies on this pathogen have been performed. However, most of these studies were concerned with pathogenicity of the isolates instead of molecular analyses of different AGs of R. solani. Therefore, in this study, thirty isolates of Rhizoctonia solani collected from various sources were used for the analyses of genetic relationships among themselves and for the rapid anastomosis grouping with RAPD method. As a result, thirty isolates of known and unknown AGs were grouped into five subgroups and each group included AG-1, AG-2, AG-3, AG-4, and AG-5. RS-1 isolate was found to be closely related to AG-5. Isolates RS-4, RS-14, RS-17, and RS-16 were found to be closely related to AG-2-2(III B). Isolate RS-13 was closely related to AG-4, isolates RS-8 and RS-10 were closely related to AG-1(I B), and isolates RS-7 and RS-21 were closely related to AG-2-2(IV). Isolate RS-19 was closely related to AG-1(I C), and isolates RS-3, RS-5, RS-18, RS-6, and RS-15 were found to be closely related to AG-1.
The microstructure and the mechanical properties of RS-SiC and RS-$SiC_f/SiC$ materials have been investigated in conjunction with the content of residual silicon and porosity. The mechanical properties of RS-SiC materials suffered from the thermal exposure were also examined. RS-SiC based materials bave been fabricated using the complex matrix slurry with different composition ratios of SiC and C panicles. The characterization of RS-SiC based materials was investigated by means of SEM, EDS ~d three point bending test. Based on the mechanical property-microstructure correlation, the high temperature applicability of RS-SiC based materials was discussed.
Aim: We conducted a case-control matched study to investigate the role of IL-16 gene polymorphisms, rs4072111, rs1131445, rs4778889 and rs11556218, in the risk of gastric cancer in a Chinese population, also performing subgroup analysis by subsites. Methods: To test the hypothesis of involvement, we analyzed the four SNPs of IL16 in 347 cancer patients and 368 controls. Demographic data and other information were collected using a newly designed questionnaire. Genotyping of IL16 (rs4072111, rs1131445, rs4778889 and rs11556218) was performed in a 384-well plate format on the MassARRAY(R) platform. Results: In our study, we found the gastric cancer patients were more likely to be male and have a family history of cancer (P<0.05). We found the rs4778889 CC and rs11556218 GG genotype was significantly associated with 1.97 and 1.84-fold increased risk of non-cardia gastric cancer, while we did not find significant association between the four IL-16 SNPs and cardia gastric cancer. Conclusions: In conclusion, our study indicated that IL-16 rs4778889 CC and rs11556218 GG genotypes are associated with an increased risk of non-cardia gastric cancer in a Chinese population. Our results offer insights into the influence of IL-16 on development of gastric cancer.

Introduction: Breast cancer is the second leading cancer in Korean women. To assess potential genetic associations between the prostate stem cell antigen (PSCA) gene in the chromosome 8q24 locus and breast cancer risk in Korean women, 13 SNPs were selected and associations with breast cancer risk were analyzed with reference to hormone receptor (HR) and menopausal status. Methods:We analyzed DNA extracted from buffy coat from 456 patients and 461 control samples, using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) based upon region-specific PCR followed by allelespecific single base primer extension reactions. Risks associated with PSCA genotypes and haplotypes were estimated with chi-square test (${\chi}^2$-test), and polytomous logistic regression models using odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs), by HR and menopausal status. Results: In case-control analysis, odds ratios (OR) of rs2294009, rs2294008, rs2978981, rs2920298, rs2976395, and rs2976396 were statistically significant only among women with estrogen receptor (ER) negative cancers, and those of rs2294008, rs2978981, rs2294010, rs2920298, rs2976394, rs10216533, and rs2976396 were statistically significant only in pre-menopausal women, and not in postmenopausal women. Risk with the TTGGCAA haplotype was significantly elevated in ER (-) status (OR= 1.48, 95% CI= 1.03~2.12, p<0.05). Especially risk of allele T of rs2294008 is significantly low in pre-menopausal breast cancer patients and AA genotype of rs2976395 in ER (-) status represents the increase of OR value. Conclusion: This report indicated for the first time that associations exist between PSCA SNPs and breast cancer susceptibility in Korean women, particularly those who are pre-menopausal with an estrogen receptor negative tumor status.
In order to observe the effects of resistant starches on the physio-nutrition in women, nine female university students were investigated using cellulose (CED), resistant starch 3 (RS3D) and resistant starch 4 (RS4D) diets. Each woman's daily intake and excretions of energy, protein and lipid were mesured together with the apparent digestibility and the amounts of total cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol were measured. The results obtained from this researh are as follows. The daily energy intake were significantly higher in the RS4D (Resistant starch 4 diet) compared with the CED(Cellulose) and the RS3D (Resistant starch 3 diet). The metabolic energy in those periods with RS added to their diets were significantly higher whereas the metabolic energy in the period CED was significantly low. The daily protein intake was significantly higher in the RS4D compared with the CED and the RS3D. The apparent digestibility of protein was significantly higher in the RS4D compared with the CED and the RS3D. The daily lipid intake was significantly higher in the CED compared with the RS3D and the RS4D. The apparent digestibility of lipid was not significant in that period. The concentration of total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, % of HDL-cholesterol and atherogenic index (A.I.) were not significant in those period. As the above results indicate, while RS3 appear to have similar effect on energy consumption rate, apparent protein digestibility and content of cholesterol in plasma, compared with the CED, but energy consumption rate and apparent digestibility of protein are significantly higher in the RS4D compared with the CED. Thus, it appears that cellulose and RS 3 share similar effects on physio-nutrition in human, while RS4 does not have the similar effects. (Korean J Nutrition 35(9) : 932∼942, 2002)
