  • The Pilot Aptitude Research Equipment (PARE) at the Republic of Korea Air Force Academy had been installed to study the pilot aptitude of the cadets and the student pilots(Navy officers and Air Force officers from the pilot scholarship programs and the ROTC). The T-37 simulated flight program and procedure, and the automatic evaluated program for simulated flight have been orderly developed to use the PARE effectively. The cadets who entered started to get simulated flight training by using those developed programs. Their flight situation has been recorded by the automatic evaluated program whenever they got the training. And then the cadets who took part in the simulated flight started the elementary combat flight training in 1,999 after getting appointed to an office and finished the advanced combat flight training in 2,001. The study of the relationship between the simulated flight and the combat flight training has begun after finding their combat flight training results. The Logistic Discriminal Analysis, technique of the SAS statistical analysis package was used to study the pilot aptitude model through the simulated flight training. This study showed that it is possible to pre-estimate the result of the combat flight training using the PARE machine.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the awareness towards oral health environmental changes and oral health in smokers and non-smokers in soldiers. Methods : Data were obtained from 350 soldiers serving at Unit M in Gwangju and Gyeonggi-do and ROTC candidates at University Y in Gyeonggi-do from April 28 to May 5, 2013. Collected data were analyzed by SPSS 12.0 program and a significant level was set at 0.05. Results : Non-smokers had more knowledge on tooth staining or gum diseases than smokers(p<0.05). The awareness towards the causes of oral cancer was not much different between the smokers and the non-smokers. The soldiers having dental health education tended to smoke less than those who had no education(p<0.05). The awareness towards individual oral health revealed no difference between the smokers and the non-smokers. Non-smokers had higher subjective knowledge on of the importance of the oral health, smoking influence on the oral health, and secondhand smoking impact on the health(p<0.05). Conclusions : The oral health education by the dental hygienists is very important in the military camps. Non-smokers tended to have higher knowledge on oral health than the non-smokers.

  • A tarsonemid mite. Stet~rotc~r.sot~rrrs~puin.sk i Smiley 1967. is an important rice pest in major rice producing countries of Thailand. Philippine. China, and Taiwan. S. spinki was found first time in Korea from rice grown in environment controlled greenhouse. Rice fed by the mite showed damage symptoms of deformed panicles and inflorescence, lesions on the inner surface of leaf sheath, and browning of rice hulls. Females of S. .spi~lkwi as 263.0 pni (246.5-284.6f 12.2) in body length and 92.4 pm (79.5- 104.9 t 7.6) in body width. Body was elongate and broadest in region of hysterosoma. Body color was pale brown. Legs were robust except for the legs IV which were typical tarsonemid female legs terminating in a whiplike seta two times the length of the leg. Male of S. spir~kiw as 196.5 pm ( 176.5-222.8 + 15.8) in body length and 109.3 ym (98.6- 1 17.7 + 6.4) in body width. Anterior ends of apodemes 111 were extended further than apodemes IV. Femur IV had large inner median lateral flange. and inner anterior and outer median setae were short about equal length. Tarsal claw was stout and curved ventrally.
