  • Rubus coreantim (Rosaceae), which has been used in oriental traditional medicine as the remedies for impotence, pollution and premature ejaculation, bet-wetting and frequ ency of urination. is a fruit drug cultivating throughout southern Korea. The leaves of Rubus coreanum were extracted with 80% acetone. The extracts were separated by Ambellite XAD-2, Sephadex LH-20. MCI-gel CHP 20P and Cosmosil 75 C$_{18}$ OPN. And three flavonoids were isolated. The structures of these compounds were elucidated as quercetin-3-O-${\beta}$-D-glueuronopyranoside(l). quercetin-3-O-${\beta}$-D-glueuronopyranosyl methyl ester(2), quercetin-3-O-${\beta}$-D-xylopyranosyl-(2${\rightarrow}$1)-${\beta}$-glucopyranoside(3) on the basis of physicochemical and spectroscopic evidences.

  • For the investigation of medicinal resources in Crataegus species, a study was carried out to clarify the constituents in the leaves of Crataegus Pinnatifida var. pubescens (Rosaceae), of which fruits have been used to stomachic, digestive, astringent, analgesic, and cardiotonic, etc. as a folk medicine in Korea. From the n-BuOH fraction of MeOH extract two flavone glycosides, vitexin(apigenin-8-C-$\beta$-D-glucopyranoside) and 2"-O-rhamnosyl vitexin(apigenin-8-C-$\alpha$-L-rhamnosyl-(1$\rightarrow$2)-$\beta$-D-glucopyrano side) were isolated and identified on the basis of their physico-chemical properties and spectroscopic evidences(UV, IR, NMR, FAB-Mass etc.) in comparision with authentic samples.amples.

  • As one of the serial studies on the specific and indigenous plants of Mt. Chiri the constituents of aerial part from filipendula formosa (Rosaceae) were investigated. From of the MeOH extract, five flavonol glycosides, kaempferol-3-O-$\beta$-D-galactopyranoside, querecetin-3-O-$\beta$-D-galactopyranoside, quercetin-3-O-$\alpha$-Lrhamopyranosyl (1 6)-$\beta$-D-galactopyranoside, kaempferol-3-O-$\alpha$-L-rhamnopyranosyl (1 6)-$\beta$-D-galactopyranoside and quercetin-7-O-$\beta$-D-glucopyranosy-3-O-$\beta$-D-galactopyranoside were isolated by column chromatographic separation using Amberlite XAD-2 and Sephadex LH-20, and identified physicochemical evidences (IR, FAB-Mass, $^1H,{\;}^{13}C-NMR$).

  • The chromatographic separation of a methanol extract of Prunus mume (Rosaceae) led to the isolation of 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furaldehyde (1), 4-O-caffeoylquinic acid methyl ester (2), prunasin (3), 5-O-caffeoylquinic acid methyl ester (4), benzyl-O-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranoside (5), and liquiritigenin-7-O-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranoside (6). Their structures were determined by 1D, 2D-NMR and MS data analysis as well as by comparison of their data with the published values.

  • We found Rosa laevigata Michx., a newly alien plant in Songjinpo-ri, Jangmok-myeon, Geoje-si, Gyeongsang nam-do. Rosa laevigata is native to China, Taiwan, and Vietnam. It is reported as a naturalized species in Japan, South Africa, United States, and the Pacific Islands. Rosa laevigata is distinguished from R. multiflora by the large size of its flower. Its Korean name is 'Wang-jjil-re-na-mu' based on the large flower. Here, we provide precise description, taxonomic key to Korean Rosa species, illustrations and photographs of its habit.

  • Aruncus aethusifolius (H. Lév.) Nakai is an endemic species in Korea and is economically important as an ornamental herb. The complete chloroplast genome of A. aethusifolius is 157,217 bp long with four subregions consisting of 85,207 bp of large singlecopy and 19,222 bp of small single-copy regions separated by 26,394 bp of inverted repeat regions. The genome includes 131 genes (86 protein-coding genes, eight rRNAs, and 37 tRNAs). Phylogenetic analyses demonstrates that the chloroplast genome of A. aethusifolius was sister to A. dioicus var. kamtschaticus, forming the strongly supported clade of Aruncus. This is the first report of the chloroplast genome of A. aethusifolius.
