  • [Ru(bpy)$_2$(dppz)]$^2$$^{+}$ (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine, dppz = dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine)(RuBD), a long-lifetime metal-ligand complex displays photophysical properties including long lifetime, polarized emission, and very little background fluorescence. To further show the usefulness of this luminophore(RuBD) for probing nucleic acid dynamics, its intensity and anisotropy decays when bound to tRN $A^{val}$ were examined using frequency-domain fluorometry with a blue light-emitting diode(LED)as the modulated light source. Unexpectedly much longer mean lifetime was obtained at 4$^{\circ}C$(<$\tau$>=178.3 ns) as compared to at $25^{\circ}C$(<$\tau$>=117.0 ns), suggesting more favorable conformation of tRN $A^{val}$ for RuBD when intercalated at 4$^{\circ}C$. The anisotropy decay data showed longer rotational correlation times at 4$^{\circ}C$(52.7 and 13.0 ns) than at $25^{\circ}C$ (32.9 and 10.3 ns). The presence of two rotational correlation times suggests that RuBD reveals both local and overall rotational motion of tRN $A^{val}$. Due to long lifetime of RuBD and small size of tRN $A^{val}$, very low steady-state anisotropy values were observed, 0.048 and 0.036 at 4 and $25^{\circ}C$, respectively. However, a clear difference in the modulated anisotropy values was seen between 4 and $25^{\circ}C$. These results indicate that RuBD can be useful for studying hydrodynamics of small nucleic acids such as tRN $A^{val}$.^{val}$.>.$.>.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to explore the impact of registered nurse/nurses' aid (RN/NA) staffing and turnover rate on inpatient health outcomes in long term care hospitals. Methods: A secondary analysis was done of national data from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Services including evaluation of long term care hospitals in October-December 2010 and hospital general characteristics in July-September 2010. Final analysis of data from 610 hospitals included RN/NA staffing, turnover rate of nursing staff and 5 patient health outcome indicators. Results: Finding showed that, when variables of organization and community level were controlled, patients per RN was a significant indicator of decline in ADL for patients with dementia, and new pressure ulcer development in the high risk group and worsening of pressure ulcers. Patients per NA was a significant indicator for new pressure ulcer development in the low risk group. Turnover rate was not significant for any variable. Conclusion: To maintain and improve patient health outcomes of ADL and pressure ulcers, policies should be developed to increase the staffing level of RN. Studies are also needed to examine causal relation of NA staffing level, RN staffing level and patient health outcomes with consideration of the details of nursing practice.

  • Radon ($Rn^{222}$) is a radioactive gas and is found at high concentrations underground. Investigations were done in many years specifically on public transportations such as in the subway stations, concourses and platforms for these are located underground areas. This study correlates the $Rn^{222}$ concentrations with the Particulate Matter (PM) concentration for the gas could be attached or trapped inside these particles. It was done on the opening subway tunnel of Miasageori Station going to Mia Station (Line 4) last August 2016. Based on the result, the $Rn^{222}$ were more influenced on the mass ratio (%) of PM present in the air instead of its mass concentration (${\mu}g/m^3$). As the $PM_{10}$ mass ratio increases ($42.32{\pm}1.03%$) during morning rush-hours, radon starts to increase up to $0.97{\pm}0.03pCi/L$. But during the afternoon $Rn^{222}$ concentrations decreased while the composition were stable at $22.96{\pm}3.0%$, $39.04{\pm}0.6%$ and $38.01{\pm}0.3%$ in $PM_1$, $PM_{2.5}$ and $PM_{10}$ respectively. It was then assumed that it could be the composition of the morning hours of the station were influencing the concentration of the radon.

  • Even after applying an image registration, Very High Resolution (VHR) multi-temporal images acquired from different optical satellite sensors such as IKONOS, QuickBird, and Kompsat-2 show a local misalignment due to dissimilarities in sensor properties and acquisition conditions. As the local misalignment, also referred to as Registration Noise (RN), is likely to have a negative impact on multi-temporal information extraction, detecting and reducing the RN can improve the multi-temporal image processing performance. In this paper, an approach to fine registration between VHR multi-temporal images by considering local distribution of RN is proposed. Since the dominant RN mainly exists along boundaries of objects, we use edge information in high frequency regions to identify it. In order to validate the proposed approach, datasets are built from VHR multi-temporal images acquired by optical satellite sensors. Both qualitative and quantitative assessments confirm the effectiveness of the proposed RN-based fine registration approach compared to the manual registration.

  • Purpose: This study is to develop the Cultural Competence Scale for Registered Nurses (CCS-RN) and to examine its validity and reliability. Methods: The item pool was generated based on related scales, a wide review of the literature, and in-depth interviews with nurses according to Purnell's cultural competence model. Content validity was verified by nursing experts. Construct validity using exploratory factor analysis, convergent validity using correlation coefficients, discriminant validity, internal consistency reliability, and test-retest reliability were examined. Results: The CCS-RN consists of a 35-item/7-factor solution with 54.1% of the total variance explained. The convergent validity of CCS-RN was supported. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ was .94 for the total scale and ranged from .77 to .90 for the seven factors. Test-retest reliability was moderate. Conclusion: The evaluation of the psychometric properties of the CCS-RN shows that this scale is expected to be a valid and reliable measure of cultural competence among nurses. This scale may be useful for assessing nurses' own cultural competence and thus contribute to strengthening cultural competence.

  • Objective : Bevacizumab is a feasible option for treating cerebral radiation necrosis (RN). We investigated the clinical outcome of RN after treatment with bevacizumab and factors related to the initial response and the sustained effect. Methods : Clinical data of 45 patients treated for symptomatic RN between September 2019 and February 2021 were retrospectively collected. Bevacizumab (7.5 mg/kg) was administered at 3-week intervals with a maximum four-cycle schedule. Changes in the lesions magnetic resonance image (MRI) scans were examined for the response evaluation. The subgroup analysis was performed based on the initial response and the long-term maintenance of the effect. Results : Of the 45 patients, 36 patients (80.0%) showed an initial response, and eight patients (17.8%) showed delayed worsening of the corresponding lesion. The non-responders showed a significantly higher incidence of diffusion restriction on MRI than the responders (100.0% vs. 25.0%, p<0.001). The delayed worsening group showed a significantly higher proportion of glioma pathology than the maintenance group (87.5% vs. 28.6%, p=0.005). Cumulative survival rates with sustained effect were significantly higher in the groups with non-glioma pathology (p=0.019) and the absence of diffusion restriction (p<0.001). Pathology of glioma and diffusion restriction in MRI were the independent risk factors for non-response or delayed worsening after initial response. Conclusion : The initial response of RN to bevacizumab was favorable, with improvement in four-fifths of the patients. However, a certain proportion of patients showed non-responsiveness or delayed exacerbations. Bevacizumab may be more effective in treating RN in patients with non-glioma pathology and without diffusion restriction in the MRI.

  • Several suture patterns can be used for cystotomy closure, and a continuous suture pattern is the most commonly used. In this study, the fluid-tight ability and other suitabilities of continuous appositional sutures, such as the simple continuous suture pattern (SC), running suture pattern (RN), and Ford interlocking suture pattern (FI), were compared for cystotomy closure. Cystotomy closure was performed using each suture method in 10 cases of ex vivo swine bladders in each group. Suture time, leakage site, suture length, bursting pressure (BP), bursting volume (BV), and circular bursting wall tension (CBWT) were measured. Suture time and suture length were the shortest in RN and the longest in FI. Leakage occurred in two places: the incision line directly and the hole made by the suture. Leakage occurred through the incision line in 4 bladders of the RN group and 2 bladders of the FI group, but not in the SC group, and in the rest of the bladders, leakage occurred through the suture hole. The values of BP, BV, and CBWT increased in the order of FI, SC, and RN. Suture time and suture length can be considered as factors related to healing and side effects. In this study, leakage through the incision was found in a less appositional area; therefore, leakage through the hole could be considered an indicator of better apposition. Good apposition is one of the conditions required for ideal cystotomy closure. The bursting strength representing the fluid-tight ability can be expressed as the CBWT. RN is expected to be efficient and cause a small degree of foreign body reaction; however, it is expected to be less stable. FI has the greatest fluid-tightness ability, but it has been proposed that side effects due to foreign body reactions most frequently occur in FI. In conclusion, SC, which is expected to have a sufficient degree of fluid-tightness and appropriate recovery, is preferable to other continuous appositional suturing methods for cystotomy closure.

  • This study is to evaluate the overall NPP(Net Primary Productions distribution in the Korean Peninsula from the satellite data(NOAA/AVHRR). This has been done using the linear relationship between the natural vegetation condition and the NPP. The NPP of natural vegetation increases proportional to the annual net radiation(Rn), where radiative dorless Index(RDI) is a proportional constant connecting Rn to NPP. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI) Is used for monitoring vegetation change, and INDVI (Integrated NDVI) for annual analysis. The INDVI has a close relation to .Rn and NPP. which can be used effectively for estimating NPP distribution of where the meteorological data Is unavailable such as North Korea. The NPP distribution of the Korean Peninsula was estimated based on the model.

  • Let {Rn($\chi$)}{{{{ { } atop {n=0} }}}} be a discrete Sobolev orthogonal polynomials (DSOPS) relative to a symmetric bilinear form (p,q)={{{{ INT _{ } }}}} pqd$\mu$0 +{{{{ INT _{ } }}}} p qd$\mu$1, where d$\mu$0 and d$\mu$1 are signed Borel measures on . We find necessary and sufficient conditions for {Rn($\chi$)}{{{{ { } atop {n=0} }}}} to satisfy a second order difference equation 2($\chi$) y($\chi$)+ 1($\chi$) y($\chi$)= ny($\chi$) and classify all such {Rn($\chi$)}{{{{ { } atop {n=0} }}}}. Here, and are forward and backward difference operators defined by f($\chi$) = f($\chi$+1) - f($\chi$) and f($\chi$) = f($\chi$) - f($\chi$-1).
