  • This study was undertaken to compare those 4 most commonly used incisions for exposure of fractures of the infraorbital rim and the orbital floor. The patient's age ranged from 19 to 67 years, the majority being in the 2nd decade. There were 17males and 1 female. Three orbital rim, 5 lower eyelid, 7 subciliary and 3 combined conjunctival-lateral canthotomy incisions were reviewed. Following points were the summury of author's experience. 1. The average scar following any of four incisions is barely noticeable. 2. Adequate fracture exposure was achieved with lower eyelid, orbital rim, subciliary and combined conjunctival-lateral canthotomy incisions. 3. One transient ectropion following subciliary incision occurred in 29-years old man with prolonged postoperative eyelid edema.

  • In order to increase the critical speed of rotating disks of which functional material could not be changed such as in optical and magnetic data storage disks, a new disk with a rim reinforced by composite material is proposed and its concept is verified by numerical analysis. Stress distributions are found for the rotating disk composed of two annular disks of which materials are isotropic inside and orthotropic outside. Dynamic equation is formulated in order to calculate the natural frequency and critical speed. For the solution of lateral vibration, a rotational symmertry condition is applied along circumferential direction and a finite element interpolation with Hermite polynomial is performed along the radial direction to obtain a proper solution. According to the results, reinforcing a disk at rim makes critical speeds drastically increased, and induces a buckling phenomenon in mode (0,0) which occurs over the lowest critical speed.

  • The Schensted algorithm first described by Robinson [5] is a remarkable combinatorial correspondence associated with the theory of symmetric functions. $Sch{\ddot{u}}tzenberger's$ jeu de taquin[10] can be used to give alternative descriptions of both P- and Q-tableaux of the Schensted algorithm as well as the ordinary and dual Knuth relations. In this paper we describe the jeu de taquin on shifted rim hook tableaux using the switching rule, which shows that the sum of the weights of the shifted rim hook tableaux of a given shape and content does not depend on the order of the content if content parts are all odd.

  • The flamboyant progress of Korean Medicine in Mid-Chosun dynasty was possible with the existence of "Eui Rim Chwal Yo" and further more, it formed a main frame of "Dong Eui Bo Gam". Following results were lead to through comparing and analyzing "Yuk Dae Eui Hak Sung See", a chapter of "Eui Rim Chwal Yo". As well as "Yuk Dae Eui Hak Sung See" of "Eui Rim Chwal Yo" took the same chapter of "Eui Hak Ip Mun" as a main frame, it contains profiles of historic doctors and their clinical reports so that next generation doctors could follow, and furthermore had significant influences on Korean Medicine History, not to speak of "Yuk Dae Eui Bang" of "Dong Eui Bo Gam".

The aconite is different from Aconitum Uchiyamai NAKAI from the point of anatomical and morphological views in transplanted and collected aconites. Being a new variety of Aconitum Uchiyamai NAKAI, this aconite is anounced under the name of Aconitum Uchiyamai NAKAI var. albiflorum CHUNG et RIM, "Hin-geu-neul-dol-che-gi" called in Korea. • A hybrid finite element analysis was used to analyze the influence of ring gear rim thickness and spline number on the static properties of an epicyclic gear system with manufacturing errors. Both of these parameters affected the bearing force and critical stress. The effect of changes in the rim thickness on the load sharing between the gears depended on the type of manufacturing error. Ring flexibility improved the load sharing between planetary gears only in systems with planet tooth thickness or planet tangential errors; for other types of error, ring flexibility worsened the load sharing. To improve load sharing, rim thickness and spline number should be controlled within a specific range. The effect of the ring gear boundary condition was more apparent in a system with errors than in a normal system.

  • Microorganisms are significantly affected when the ambient pH of their environment changes. They must therefore be able to sense and respond to these changes in order to survive. Previous investigators have studied various fungal species to define conserved pH-responsive signaling pathways. One of these pathways, known as the Pal/Rim pathway, is activated in response to alkaline pH signals, ultimately targeting the PacC/Rim101 transcription factor. Although the central signaling components are conserved among divergent filamentous and yeast-like fungi, there is some degree of signaling specificity between fungal species. This specificity exists primarily in the downstream transcriptional targets of this pathway, likely allowing differential adaptation to species-specific environmental niches. In this review, the role of the Pal/Rim pathway in fungal pH response is discussed. Also highlighted are functional differences present in this pathway among human fungal pathogens, differences that allow these specialized microorganisms to survive in the various micro-environments of the infected human host.

  • Bright rims are one of the most unknown part of a filament nowadays. Many models tried to explain the environments, but there is no commonly acceptable model. Many survey observations have been performed to find various characteristics of the bright rim statistically, but there was only one spectroscopic observation to understand phenomena of the bright rim. We observed a bright rim on June 25, 2010 using FISS installed in NST, Big Bear Solar observatory. FISS can obtain a couple of wavebands data simultaneously with short time cadence and fine resolution(~ 0.1", expected) with Adaptive Optics. By applying the cloud model, we found source function, optical thickness, temperature and non-thermal velocity of the region from the spectra of Ha and CaII 8542 lines. We discuss the physical implication of these measurements on the nature of bright rims of filaments.
