In this paper, we propose a RF energy harvesting based routing protocol in mobile ad-hoc wireless sensor networks. The main features and contributions of the proposed routing protocol are as follows. First, establishment of routing route based on both remaining energy of mobile sensor nodes and RF energy harvesting. Second, establishment of routing route by considering availability and stability of route based on energy of mobile sensor nodes to increase lifetime of networks and route. The performance evaluation of the proposed routing protocol using OPNET shows that the routing method considering both route availability and route stability based on RF energy harvesting can increase efficiently route lifetime.

This study aims to develop a fully passive smart sensing tag utilizing RF (Radio Frequency) energy harvesting technology at UHF (Ultra High Frequency) band of 915MHz. To optimize the power collected under various radiated conditions, an efficient energy harvesting module exploiting a boost circuit with maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is employed. Specifically, the proposed tag features two orthogonal antennas to enhance its capability of both energy scavenging and data transmissions. The experimental result shows that the developed smart sensor tag can scavenge an RF input power of as low as 0.19mW at a distance of 4 meters for a 3.6Vdc output. Furthermore, the proposed smart sensor tag performs the feasibility of completely autonomous monitoring food freshness at 2 meters with a low-power sensor array.

In this paper, we propose an algorithm to optimize energy efficiency in a multi-user decoupled RF energy harvesting network and experiment on the trend of energy efficiency change assuming users' various geographical distribution scenarios. In the RF energy harvesting network where both wireless data transmission and RF energy harvesting are simultaneously performed, the energy efficiency is a key indicator of network performance, and it is necessary to investigate how various factors can affect the energy efficiency. In order to increase energy efficiency effectively, we can confirm that users' distributions are important factors in the RF energy harvesting network from the simulation results.

In this paper, we proposed a scheme for signal detection based on average of detected energy of frequencies for backscatter communications. We applied this scheme on the bistatic backscatter radio architecture for RF energy harvesting. Tags reflected entire RF signals on a same bandwidth when transmitted energy signals. Receivers can optimal switching antenna by this scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can precisely detect signals from tag with properly calculated parameters.
With innovative advances in wireless communication technology, many researches for extending network lifetime in maximum by using energy harvesting have been actively performed on the area of network resource optimization, QoS-guaranteed transmission, energy-intelligent routing and etc. As known well, it is very hard to guarantee end-to-end network delay due to uncertainty of the amount of harvested energy in multi-hop RF(radio frequency) energy harvesting wireless networks. To minimize end-to-end delay in multi-hop RF energy harvesting networks, this paper proposes an energy efficient routing metric based on interference aware and protocol which takes account of various delays caused by co-channel interference, energy harvesting time and queuing in a relay node. The proposed method maximizes end-to-end throughput by performing avoidance of packet congestion causing load unbalance, reduction of waiting time due to exhaustion of energy and restraint of delay time from co-channel interference. Finally simulation results using ns-3 simulator show that the proposed method outperforms existing methods in respect of throughput, end-to-end delay and energy consumption.

Recent researches on radio frequency energy harvesting networks(RF-EHNs) with limited energy resource like battery have been focusing on the development of a new scheme that can effectively extend the whole lifetime of a network to semipermanent. In order for considerable increase both in the amount of energy obtained from radio frequency energy harvesting and its charging effectiveness, it is very important to design a network that supports energy harvesting and data transfer simultaneously with the full consideration of various characteristics affecting the performance of a RF-EHN. In this paper, we proposes an interference-based charging aware routing protocol(ICARP) that utilizes interference information and charging time to maximize the amount of energy harvesting and to minimize the end-to-end delay from a source to the given destination node. To accomplish the research objectives, this paper gives a design of ICARP adopting new network metrics such as interference information and charging time to minimize end-to-end delay in energy harvesting wireless networks. The proposed method enables a RF-EHN to reduce the number of packet losses and retransmissions significantly for better energy consumption. Finally, simulation results show that the network performance in the aspects of packet transmission rate and end-to-end delay has enhanced with the comparison of existing routing protocols.

Recently, the energy shortage of sensors and the leakage of private information are considered as serious problems as the number of sensors is increasing due to the technological advance in Internet-of-Things. RF energy harvesting, in which sensors collect energy from external RF signals, and physical layer security become increasingly important to solve these problems. In this paper, we propose a time switching-based network analog coding for improving information security in wireless networks where the relay can harvest energy from source signals. We formulate 2-hop relay networks where an eavesdropper tries to overhear source signals, and find an optimal time switching ratio for maximizing the minimum required secrecy capacity using mathematical analysis. Through simulations under various environments, it is shown that the proposed scheme improves the minimum required secrecy capacity significantly, compared to the conventional scheme.

Recently, RF energy harvesting, in which energy is collected from the external RF signals, is considered as a promising technology to resolve the energy shortage problem of wireless sensors. In addition, it is important to guarantee secure communication between sensors for implementing Internet-of-Things. In this paper, we propose a power splitting-based network analog coding for maximizing a physical layer security in 2-hop networks where the wireless-powered relay can harvest energy from the signals transmitted by two sources. We formulate systems where two sources, relay, and eavesdropper exist, and find an optimal power splitting ratio for maximizing the minimum required secrecy capacity using an exhaustive search. Through simulations under various environments, it is demonstrated that the proposed scheme improves the minimum required secrecy capacity by preventing the eavesdropper from overhearing source signals, compared to the conventional scheme.
