Robinia pseudoacacia has become invasively naturalized in Japan. We investigated the role of sexual reproduction in the development of R. pseudoacacia riparian forests along the Chikumagawa River in Japan, by using five chloroplast (cpSSR) and seven nuclear (nSSR) markers. We identified eight chloroplast haplotypes and 147 nuclear genotypes from 619 R. pseudoacacia trees sampled in three plots (Plots A, B, and C) and along two line transects (Lines D and E). CpSSR analyses showed that multiple maternal lines were distributed along the river, and that some haplotypes from different populations overlapped. In addition, while Plots A and B were separated by a short distance, only these two plots exhibited genetic differentiation in the haplotypes. In the nSSR analysis, all pairwise $F_{ST}$ values among the three plots were significantly different from zero. Kinship analysis based on nSSR markers revealed that kinship connected many individuals to another individual from the same plot. These results indicate that seed dispersal near to mother trees contributes to the fine-scale genetic structure of R. pseudoacacia riparian forests. Our results indicate that sexual reproduction, in addition to asexual reproduction, is a major contributor to the fine-scale formation of R. pseudoacacia forests.

Thirty-two actinomycetes isolates from Korean forest soil were screened for their nematicidal and reproduction suppression activity against pine wood nematode (PWN) which is widely spread in Korea. Culture filterates of 21 isolates showed more than 90% mortality at 2-fold concentration. Among them, AM210, SG16, YD116 and YD315 were more effective than others on reproduction of PWN. The YD116 isolate was identified as Streptomyces atratus by morphological and 16S rDNA analyses. Hydrazine hydrate, similar to hydrazidomycin which has cytotoxicity among substances from S. atratus against PWN, was tested for its nematicidal activity. Ten ppm of the hydrate showed 60.8% mortality. Additional studies are needed for practical use of the S. atratus YD116 isolate.

This study specifies the definition and characteristics of fake fashion by categorizing cases through an analytical framework that uses the concept of simulacre, which is one of the theories that explains the reproduction of images and symbols in a modern consumer society. The presentation stages of modern fake fashion based on Baudrillard's concept of simulacre are as follows: Stage 1 focuses on the realistic imitation of the original, Stage 2 maintains a similarity with the original while transforming through the distortion of shape or visual perception, Stage 3 is the reality of the original which has become significantly vague and actively involves the designer's creativity, and Stage 4 forms a new value and an independent aura beyond reproducing the original. The presentation techniques of modern fake fashion viewed in the concept of simulacre can be classified into optical illusions by reproduction, use of a fake object, use of unusual shapes, and re-signifying through borrowing. As a result of applying the collected cases to the analytical framework, image reproduction in Stage 1 with imitative nature is a counterfeit that cannot be regarded as fake fashion, and fake fashion in Stage 4 (that can be referred to as simulacre) is fashion with symbolic and multiple meanings with new and creative designs. Modern fake fashion analyzed in the concept of simulacre transforms or reproduces the preexisting original with the purpose of merely creating original designs as well as acts as a new symbolic signal that creates a new aura and sets a trend with a message.

Pine wood nematode (PWN), Bursaphelenchus xylophilus is one of the most serious pests of pine tree. Trunk injection of some nematicides in tree is well known as an effective control method. However there are some limitating factors which hindering the efficacy of trunk injection in field or potted tree. In this study we suggested easy and useful alternative screening methods of nematicides against PWN. Reproduction of PWN was influenced by tree twig moisture (high reproduction in high moisture trig) and paraffin coating was 78.6% reduced moisture loss in tested twig. There were no reproduction different in up and down site from infection site of twig at 1 month after inoculation of PWN and also distance (5 and 10 cm) from inoculation site of PWN did not influence the reproduction of PWN. Numbers of reproduced PWN were higher with decreasing diameter of twig. Numbers of reproduced PWN were similar to P. thunbergii and P. densiflora. However reproduction was increased depending on high inoculation density and longer propagation period. When inoculation of PWN on cut twig injected with emamectin benzoate 2.15% EC and morantel tartrate 8% SL in trunk of Pinus thunbergii in the field, PWN number were significantly reduced than untreated control. We suggest this screening method for PWN control agents.
Paratlanticus ussuriensis oviposited from early July to mid-September under laboratory condition. A female laid on average 145 eggs during the period of reproduction and over 54% of the eggs were laid within 2 weeks after the first laying. The average depth of egg-laying in soil was 19.4 mm under surface. The average major axis of an egg was 5.7 mm and the minor axis was 2.0 mm. Just before hatching, the egg swelled about twice the weight of a newly laid. In tests of ovipositional preference in different types of media, more eggs were laid in soil than in vermiculite or in $Oasis^{(R)}$ floral form. Females also prefer shaded places in the field for reproduction, away from sunshine. In terms of the strategy for egg survival, adult moves to the hill-side adjacent to orchard farm to find a proper place for their egg laying and its survival in winter.
Background: In this study, the growth and reproductive response of seedlings, grown in plastic pots with sand, to moisture and nutrients were analyzed in order to study the environmental conditions required to create an alternative habitat for Epilobium hirsutum L., an endangered plant. Results: Vegetative and reproductive growths of Epilobium hirsutum L. are accelerated with increase in moisture and organic matter content in the soil. Among vegetative organs, the number of runners related to asexual reproduction was the highest when the moisture content was over 25% and nutrient content between 7 and 14% in the soil. But the number of flowers related to flowering responses, among reproductive organs, was the highest when the moisture content was maintained at 75% and when nutrient content was 21% in the soil. The number of seeds, related to sexual reproduction, was the highest when the moisture content was over 25% and nutrient content between 14 and 21%. Conclusions: The study results show that a place with high moisture and nutrient content in the soil is advantageous to asexual and sexual reproduction of Epilobium hirsutum L. Therefore, we must serve periodically nutrient and seeds to sustain population in in situ conservation. Furthermore, it is advisable to create in riverside where abundant nutrient content have, making alternative habitat of Epilobium hirsutum L. Also, we must find species that have high contribution degree index through vegetation survey.
Four cyclopoids were tested for laboratory culture. Among these animals, only Eucyclops serrulatus was successfully cultured in the laboratory. Under the laboratory culture condition, nine kinds of diets were tested for the suitability of nauplius development. Development and reproduction of E. serrulatus were also investigated. Chlamydomonas reinhardii was the only one which could induce complete development from nauplii to adults. It was found that E. serrulatus had relatively short generation time, could produce lots of progenies, and could be handled easily, allowing to obtain many individuals during a short period. With these characteristics, this species may be a candidate for a good test organism for evaluating freshwater pollution.
Background: Prasiola japonica is a freshwater green algae species that can only be seen in Korea and Japan. The various conditions necessary for its growth and reproduction have not been fully elucidated. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to investigate conditions related to the growth and reproduction of P. japonica for the purpose of conserving and producing this species. We first examined differences in growth according to various conditions in different habitats to understand the growth environment of P. japonica. Results: The experimental results revealed that the optimal temperature for growth and reproduction of P. japonica was between 10℃-15℃, and the optimal light intensity was 1,000-1,500 lux. Furthermore, when Provasoli enriched seawater with iodine (PESI) agar was used, the growth of P. japonica was found to be at least 1.5-8 times greater than that of the general Sohan Valley water sample, and it also showed 2-4.5 faster growth rate to reach 30 ㎛. These results emphasize the importance of PESI agar in the culture of P. japonica, and are expected to be helpful in suggesting ways to utilize and conserve P. japonica resources. Conclusions: Through these research findings, we suggest new methods for conserving and producing P. japonica, highlight the importance of preserving the P. japonica ecosystem, and explore ways to utilize P. japonica resources. This research promotes the understanding and protection of P. japonica resources in Korea and beyond, and underscores the need for further research and conservation efforts.
Regeneration process of the Korean beech (Fagus multinervis Nakai) forest was studied in relation to the distributional pattern and age structure. In this study, it was clarified that the Korean beech forest is regenerated in both way: seedlings(sexual reproduction) and sprouts(vegetative reproduction) formations. In the large gaps, seedling may be established, resulting in clusters of even-aged individuals. But in the small-sized gaps, there may filled by the extention of surrounding trees and/or by the young trunks, which have sprouted from the base of stumps. As most gaps in the F. multinervis forest were derived from falling of a single stem, regeneration by sprouts seems to be more common than that by the seedlings.
Four species of water fleas (Daphnia magna, Daphnia pulex, Daphnia galeata, and Moina macrocopa) were examined for the clarification of their reproduction with culture conditions. The reproduction tests of water flea by the culture conditions were carried out. For the comparison of the reproduction rate, five media (manure-soil medium, DIN medium, M4 medium, EPA medium, fertilizer medium) were applied to determine the best medium. Daphnia magna, Daphnia pulex, and Moina macrocopa were appeared the best reproduction in the manure-soil medium at $20^{\circ}C.$ The lifespan and young reproduction were better in manure-soil medium than the others. But Daphnia galeata was lived for 34 days in the fertilizer medium at $20^{\circ}C.$ The culture of Daphnia galeata was difficult to rear than the other species. In the current study, the microcystin of Microcystis sp. did not particularly affect on the survival of water fleas. But the lifespan was short and the reproduction rate was low. Therefore water flea have a preference for Scenedesmus sp. than Microcystis sp. On the condition of the feeding Scenedesmus sp., all examined water fleas appeared to have the longest lifespan and the most young water fleas produced at any medium and temperature as compared with the feeding the Microcystis sp. For the culture temperature, the lifespan was longer on $20^{\circ}C$ than $15^{\circ}C$.
