  • Random Early Detection (RED) [1] is an active queue management scheme which has been deployed extensively to reduce packet loss during congestion. Although RED can improve loss rates, its performance depends severely on the tuning of its operating parameters. The idea of adaptively varying RED parameters to suit the network conditions has been investigated in [2], where the maximum packet dropping probability $max_p$ has been varied. This paper focuses on adaptively varying the queue weight $\omega_q$ in conjunction with $max_p$ to improve the performance. We propose two algorithms viz., $\omega_q$-thresh and $\omega_q$-ewma to adaptively vary $\omega_q$. The performance is measured in terms of the packet loss percentage, link utilization and stability of the instantaneous queue length. We demonstrate that varying $\omega_q$ and $max_p$ together results in an overall improvement in loss percentage and queue stability, while maintaining the same link utilization. We also show that $max_p$ has a greater influence on loss percentage and queue stability as compared to $\omega_q$, and that varying $\omega_q$ has a positive influence on link utilization.

  • The network performance gets down during congestion periods to solve the problem effectively. A RED(Random Earl Detection) algorithm of the queue management algorithm is proposed and IETF recommends it as a queue management. A RED algorithm controls a congestion aspect dynamically. In analyzing parameters when static value of parameter is set in the gateway cannot be handled the status of current network traffic properly We propose the Effective RED algorithm to solve with the weakness of RED In this algorithm the maximum drop probability decides to accept or drop the interning packets, is adjusted dynamically on the current queue state for controlling the congestion phase effectively in the gateway. This algorithm is confirmed by computer simulation using the NS(Network Simulator)-2.

  • Active queue management (AQM) refers to a family of packet dropping mechanisms for router queues that has been proposed to support end-to-end congestion control mechanisms in the Internet. The proposed AQM algorithm by the IETF is Random Early Detection (RED). The RED algorithm allows network operators simultaneously to achieve high throughput and low average delay. However. the resulting average queue length is quite sensitive to the level of congestion. In this paper, we propose the Refined Adaptive RED(RARED), as a solution for reducing the sensitivity to parameters that affect RED performance. Based on simulations, we observe that the RARED scheme improves overall performance of the network. In particular, the RARED scheme reduces packet drop rate and improves goodput.

  • Red-bed soft rock is a common stratum and it is necessary to evaluate the mechanical properties and bearing capacity of red-bed soft rock mass affected by different environmental effects. This paper presents a complete procedure for evaluating the bearing capacity of red-bed soft rock by means of geophysical exploration and in-situ rock mechanics tests. Firstly, the thickness of surface loosened rock mass of red-bed soft rock was determined using geophysical prospecting method. Then, three environmental effects, including natural weathering effect, dry-wet cycling effect and concrete sealing effect, were considered. After each effect lasted for three months, in-situ rock mass mechanical tests were conducted. The test results show that the mechanical properties of rock mass considering the sealing effect of concrete were maintained. After considering the natural weathering effect, the mechanical parameters decrease to a certain extent. After considering the effect of dry-wet cycling, the decreases of mechanical parameters are the most significant. The test results confirm that the red-bed soft rock dam foundation rock mass will be significantly affected by various environmental effects. Therefore, combined with the mechanical test results, some useful implementations are proposed for the construction of a red-bed soft rock dam foundation.

  • This study developed an estimation model for litterfall input using the stand parameters (basal area, stand density, mean DBH, and carbon stocks of the aboveground tree biomass) collected from the Korean red pine (Pinus densiflora S. et Z.) stands of seven regions in Gyeongsangnam-do. The mean annual litterfall was 2,779 kg ha-1 year-1 for needles, 883 kg ha-1 year-1 for miscellaneous, 611 kg ha-1 year-1 for broadleaved, 513 kg ha-1 year-1 for branches, and 340 kg ha-1 year-1 for bark litter. The mean annual total litterfall was 5,051 kg ha-1 year-1. Litterfall components were significantly correlated with stand parameters, except for broadleaved litter. A stronger correlation was observed between the carbon stock of the aboveground tree biomass and all the litterfall components compared with the other stand variables. The allometric equations for all the litterfall components were significant (P < 0.05), with the stand parameters accounting for 5%-43% and 8%-42% of the variation in the needle litter and total litterfall, respectively. The results indicated that the annual litterfall inputs of the Korean red pine stands on a regional scale can be effectively estimated by allometric equations using the basal area and carbon stocks of the aboveground tree biomass.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop of red tide information system for spatial and temporal analysis of red tide including the outbreak season of red tide and biological-oceanography parameters using GIS techniques. The outbreaks of red tide were sporadic in the South Sea until 1994, but became frequent and widespread in whole coastal waters of the South Sea and East Sea since 1995. Therefore, the research fields of red tide has undergone a major changes. For monitoring of red tide, many kinds of techniques were carried out such as remote sensing, GIS and fuzzy model system. In this research, the development methods of red tide information system were suggested. For construction of the CIS based Red Tide database, spatial distribution area, species of red tide plankton and physical environment were analyzed.

  • Abnormal hematological values are associated with various disorders including cancer and cardiovascular, metabolic, infectious, and immune diseases. We report the copy number variations (CNVs) in clinically relevant hematological parameters, including hemoglobin level, red and white blood cell counts, platelet counts, and red blood cell (RBC) volume. We describe CNVs in several loci associated with these hematological parameters in 8,842 samples from Korean population-based studies. The data that we evaluated included four RBC parameters, one platelet parameter, and one associated with total white blood cell (WBC) count, exceeding the genome-wide significance. We show that CNVs in hematological parameters are associated with some loci, different from previously associated loci reported in single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) association studies.

  • We report the HST pixel analysis results of the interacting S0 galaxy, NGC 5195 (M51B), using the HST/ACS images in the F435W, F555W and F814W (BVI) bands. After 4x4 binning of the HST/ACS images to secure sufficient signal-to-noise ratio for each pixel, we derive several quantities describing the pixel color-magnitude diagram (pCMD) of NGC 5195, such as blue/red color cut, red pixel sequence parameters, blue pixel sequence parameters and blue-to-red pixel ratio. Those parameters reflect the internal properties of NGC 5195 like age, metallicity, dust content and galaxy morphology. To investigate the spatial distributions of stellar populations, we divide pixel stellar populations using the pixel color-color diagram and population synthesis models. As a result, we find that the tidal interaction with NGC 5194 significantly affects the stellar populations in their dust content and mean stellar age.

  • The red mud generated from the Bayer alumina production process seriously threatens the environment and human safety. Therefore, the reduction and recycling of red mud is an urgent topic in the aluminum industry. In this study, the effects of four parameters, ultrasound power, reaction temperature, time, and acid concentration, on the leaching of Fe, Al from red mud was investigated. The major parameters influencing the metal recovery efficiency from red mud were ultrasound power and reaction temperature. The use of ultrasonic irradiation resulted in 1.72 and 1.28 times higher recovery efficiency for Fe and Al, respectively. The proper conditions for the recovery of the metal components present in the red mud is the ultrasound intensity (150 W), sulfuric acid concentration (4-6N), reaction temperature ($70^{\circ}C$), and reaction time (2 hours), etc.

  • Natural red colorants were extracted from Phytolacca americana Linne by using 50% ethanol solution at room temperature for 12 hours. The colorant components were partially purified as yellow and deep red colorants by thin layer chromatography. Natural red colorants were consisted of major water-soluble red colorant, having maximum absorbance at 538nm and alcohol-soluble yellow colorant, having maximum absorbance at 664nm. Concentration of red colorants were calibrated by the equation of dye(mg/ml) $A_{538nm}\times{1.284}$. Red colorants were changed to yellow at extreme alkali pH and repaired 55% color intensity by neutralization of pH and stabled below $55^\circ{C}$. Dyeability of red colorants against wool fabrics was mainly operated by red pigment having 538nm absorbance without big color differences. Below $55^\circ{C}$, color differences $(\Delta{E}^*_{ab})$ were not changed in spite of big difference of chroma$(c^*)$, having higher scores at higher temperature. The effect of mordants were not drastically changed parameters of color difference without copper ion. Citric acid was big changes of color difference$(\Delta{E}^*_{ab})$ in spite of similar chroma$(c^*)$ values. From these experimental results, red colorants from Phytolacca americana Linne is available for wool fabric dyeing.
