  • Generally, reinforced concrete structures exposed to the outside temperature are affected by freezing and thawing process during winter and early spring. These freeze-thawing process can lead to the reduction in durability of concrete as cracking or surface spalling. This paper is to study the flexural behavior of RC beams exposed to freeze-thawing environments. To compare the difference in flexural behavior of RC Beams, limited tests were conducted under different types of Longitudinal steel ratio and freeze-thawing cycles. For this purpose, fourteen small-scale RC beams ($100mm{\times} 100mm {\times}600mm$) were strengthened in monotonic and cyclic loadings, subjected to up to 150, 300 cycles freeze-thawing from $-18{\sim}4^{\circ}C$. It is thought that experimental results will be used as basic data to evaluate flexural behavior of RC beams exposed to freeze-thawing.

  • This study was carried out to investigate quantitatively the relationship between the degree of rebar corrosion and the strength of reinforced concrete beams. After producing equations for the relationship between both the tensile properties of rebars and bond properties and the corrosion percentage of rebars, finite element analysis and bending tests were conducted for RC beams damaged by corrosion of tension main rebar. As a result, it was made that the strength of RC beams damaged by corrosion could be practically simulated by FEM analysis using experimentally determined material properties representing the bond and the mechanical characteristics of corroded rebars.

  • The objective of the present study is to understand the strengthening effects of reinforced concrete beam applied external prestressing with strand or CFRP(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic). In the present study, the structural tests was performed to find the effects of stiffness and ductility for the strengthening RC beam. The experimental results show that proposed methods can increase the bending capacity such as strength, stiffness of the beam significantly and the ranged between 57% and 75% of the load-carrying capacity of the control beam.

  • Many researches have been conducted to describe the structural behaviour of reinforced concrete beams with openings, and were generally concentrated on the shear behaviours. The objective of this paper is to study the shear and bending capacities of RC beams with openning. In experimental study, a total of seven RC beam with circular opennings under monotonic loading conditions were investigated. The parameters used in this study include the openning size and the existence of re-bar.

  • Tensile strength of CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) is approximately 10 times higher than that steel reinforcement, but the design strength of CFRP is normally reduced by the bond failure between RC and CFRP. Many researches have been carried out, concerned with bond behavior between RC and CFRP to prevent the unpredicted bond failure of RC beam strengthened by CFRP, but the national design code for design bond strength of CFRP hasn't been constructed. In this study, 3 beams specimen strengthened by CFRP under the variable of bonded length were tested to derive the design bond strength of CFRP to the RC flexural members. Also 2 beams specimen strengthened by CFRP were tested to inspect the construction environment effects such as mixing error of epoxy resin and the amount of primer epoxy resin. From the test results, It is concluded that the maximum design bond strength of CFRP to RC flexural member is considered to be $\tau_{a}$=8kgf/$cm^{2}$.

  • It has been shown that many reinforced concrete(RC) structures designed without seismic details have experienced brittle shear failures in the beam-column joint area and may result in large permanent deformations and structural collapse. In this study, experimental investigations for RC beam-column joints strengthened with the carbon fiber-reinforced polymer(CFRP) under cyclic loadings were presented. The use of CFRP in the joint was varied to determine the effective way of improving the structural performances of RC joints. Ten RC beam-column joints were designed and tested with cyclic loadings. The experimental results showed that the use of CFRP in RC joints would be very effective solutions to improve the seismic performances of the non-seismic RC joints. All of the non-seismic design specimens strengthened with CFRP sheets showed the significant increase of strength and ductility.

  • To investigate the flexural behavior of real size RC beams strengthened with glass fiber sheets, 9 strengthened beams of real size are experimented and the results are compared with those of existing experimental studies. Experiments are considered glass fiber sheets, the number of fiber sheets, and the existence of U-wrap. By the results of experiments, the failure behavior and crack types of real size RC beams are almost equal to those of the small size RC beams, and the debonding and not the concrete cover delamination are occurred. It can be found from the load-deflection curves that as the number of fiber sheets is increased, the ductility of real size RC beam is more decreased than that of the small size RC beam. For the strengthening method with glass fiber sheets of the real size RC beams, it can be confirmed that the finding a solution to the bonding problem is required

  • This study investigates the flexural behavior and strengthening performance of RC beams strengthened by prestressed CFRP laminates through static bending tests. Tests on RC beams strengthened with prestressed CFRP laminates were carried out for both cases where the CFRP laminates were bonded or not and the corresponding effects on the strengthening performances of RC beams were examined. Experimental results revealed that RC beams strengthened with prestressed CFRP laminates presented increased crack load and yield load according to the level of prestress. Premature debonding occurred before the RC beam strengthened with bonded prestressed CFRP laminates reaches the maximum load, and the specimen presented similar behavior to the one exhibited by the specimen with unbonded laminates.

  • The TEC-Beam system is a composite beam consisting of structural tee, precast concrete, and cast-in-site reinforced concrete slab. The preliminary test of the proposed system was performed for simple beams, showing good behavior. However, for the field application of the system. TEC-Beam - RC column connection was required to produce a mechanism that transfers the force occurring in the lower part of the TEC-Beam. Thus, this study developed a connection mechanism that transfers the force occurring in the lower part of the TEC-Beam. Thus, this study developed a connection wherein the section of the TEC-Beam was enlarged and the lower part reinforced. Two setups of the proposed system were experimentally investigated. using the anchorage length of reinforcement., i.e., length of the increased section, as test parameter. It could be concluded from the result that the proposed system shows good structural behavior, with potential applicability in the field.
