This experiment was carried out to obtain the basic information on cultivation of Gentiana scabra BUNGE. Optimum temperature for germination, planting time effect of chemicals on rooting for cutting propagation, effect of cutting on root yield, and content of gentiopicroside were investigated. The germination ratio was highest at $25^{\circ}C$ but lower at $10,\;15,\;20\;,30^{\circ}C.$ The optimum planting time was March 20 the cutting in May and NAA treatment were effective on rooting for cutting propagation. Inhibition of flowering by cutting was effective for increasing root yield but not effective for gentiopicroside content of root.
Twelve soybean cultivars were cultivated in the 1/2,000a. Wagner pots with irrigation and without irrigation for 30 days after flowering, and the differences of plant growth and bean yield among cultivars were compared. And to investigate the varietal differences in the rate of photosynthesis under different relative humidity, 6soybean cultivars were cultivated in 1/2,000a. Wagner pot and the rate of photosynthesis of each soybean cultivar at flowering time was measured under the relative humidity of 80, 70, 60, 50 and 40%. The results obtained are summarized as follows; 1. The days to maturity of the soybean cultivars were shortened by non-irrigation treatment. The response of the maturing dates to non-irrigation was significantly different among the soybean cultivars. The days for maturing of Paldal, Danyeob and Eundaedu were delayed 2 days but those of Jangbaek and Tamahomare were delayed about 7 to 8 days under non-irrigation treatment. 2. The stem length, stem diameter, number of nodes of the mainstem, number of branches and number of branch nodes of all soybean cultivars were decreased by non-irrigation treatment. The number of branches and the number of branch nodes were especially severely influenced by non-irrigation treatment. 3. The number of pods per plant and the number of perfect pods was significantly reduced by non-irrigation treatment but the number of imperfect pods was increased. The non-irrigation treatment reduced the number of pods per plant by 58.0% and the ratio of the number of the perfect pods per plant by 46.6% relative to the ordinary cultivation with irrigation. 4. The grain yield of all cultivars was significantly reduced by the non-irrigation treatment, and average grain yield of soybean cultivars cultivated under non-irrigation treatment was 35.9% of that of soybean cultivars cultivated with irrigation. The influence of non-irrigation treatment was lowest in Paldal and significantly high in Tamahomare and Jangbaek. 5. The rate of photosynthesis of soybean leaves was significantly different among cultivars and was also influenced by relative humidity. Ratio of the photosynthetic amount of soybean leaves at 40% RH to the maximum photosynthesis at optimal humidity was 97.2% in Paldal, 96.4% in Danyeob and 88.8% in Baekun. 6. At 40% relative air humidity, highly significant correlations were found among the photosynthesis rate, the amount of transpiration and the respiration rate.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of timing of nutrient starvation during transplant production on growth of runner plants and yield of strawberry 'Seolhyang' (Fragaria ${\times}$ ananassa). Nutrient solution supply at the level of EC (electrical conductivity) 0.8 $dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ was terminated at interval about 10 days between July 25 and September 5. As a result, the growth of above-ground part was inhibited while root growth increased when the nutrient starvation treatment had been brought forward to July 25. It also reduced the T/R ratio significantly and chlorophyll content was tended to be lower than the other treatment. In addition, it significantly promoted the budding, flowering and harvest of first flower cluster. On the other hand, the period of harvest was delayed more than two weeks when the nutrients were continuously supplied after the middle of August. An accumulated marketable fruit yield per plant until the end of January and February was 169 and 266g, respectively in the treatment of nutrient starvation on July 25, which was 71 and 12% increase, respectively, as compared with those in the treatment of September 5. Therefore, the appropriate nutrient starvation in the late season of strawberry nursery period could be expected the increase in yield and income during the winter season by promoting the flower bud differentiation as reducing the endogenous nitrate level of the plantlet.

This study was conducted to develop the suitable nutrient solutions for variable Cruciferae leafy vegetables. l/2, 1 and 3/2 strength of nutrient solution recommended by National Horticultural Research Institute were supplied to plants in deep flow technique systems during 25 days. The growth of pak-choi and leaf mustard 'Asia curled' was highest in the 3/2 strength, and kaie 'TBC' in the 1 strength. Mean cation ratio of nutrient solution for pak-choi, leaf mustard and kale was K $49.5\%$, Ca $35.8\%$ and Mg $14.7\%$, which was obtained by calculating the uptake rates of water and nutrients. Suitable composition of the nutrient solution for Cruciferae leafy vegetables was N 14, P 3, K 6.8, Ca 4.8, $Mg 2m{\cdot}L^{-1}$. To examine the suitability of nutrient solution developed for Cruciferae vegetables (NSC), plants were grown 4 times from Sep. 2003 to Oct. 2004. When plants were grown in NSC, relative growth rate increased 1.1 to 2.5 times and vitamin C content 1.06 to 1.52 times. The proper plants to apply NSC for functional leaf vegetable production were leaf mustard 'Asia recurled', 'Redcurled' and 'Pamagreen', kale 'TBC', 'Portugal' and 'Hanchu collard', leaf broccoli 'New green', pak-choi, baby cabbage 'Red king' and 'Green king', flowering red chinese cabbage and Korean cabbage.
'Jinsun', a new variety of safflower(Carthamus tinctoris L.), was developed by Kyonggi-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services in 2000. It was bred with pure line selection from Namwon local variety population. Jinsun is relatively resistant to Gleosporium carthami and has more flower head and higher ripened grain ratio. Its flowering date was June 22 in Hwaseong, Gyeonggido and contains more protein and linoleic acid relatively in grain compared with Cheongsu, check variety. Grain yield of Jinsun was 11% higher than Cheongsu.

In order to predict the risk of freeze injury for 'Changhowon Hwangdo' peach trees, we used the dormancy depth (i.e., the daily chill unit accumulation during the overwintering period) as a proxy for the short-term, physiological tolerance to freezing temperatures. A Chill-days model was employed and its parameters such as base temperature and chilling requirement were optimized for peach trees based on the 12 observational experiments during the 2008-2009 winter. The model predicted the flowering dates much closer to the observations than other models without considering dormancy depth, showing the strength of employing dormancy depth into consideration. To derive empirical equations for calculating the probabilistic freeze risk, the dormancy depth was then combined with the browning ratio and the budburst ratio of frozen peach fruit branches. Given the exact date and the predicted minimum temperature, the equations calculate the probability of freeze damages such as a failure in budburst or tissue browning. This method of employing dormancy depth in addition to freezing temperature would be useful in locating in advance the risky areas of freezing injury for peach trees production under the projected climate change.
Hwangmichal, a yellow waxy corn hybrid, is a single cross hybrid developed in 2014. This hybrid was created by crossing the seed parent KY30 and pollen parent KY9. Hwangmichal has yellow kernels with a conico-cylindrical ear shape. The days to silking of Hwangmichal were similar to that of Ilmichal, a check hybrid. The ear height ratio of Hwangmichal was 50%, which was lower than that of Ilmichal, and its number of tillers was less than that of Ilmichal. The ear size of Hwangmichal was smaller than that of Ilmichal and the kernel set ratio was 89%. Its sensory evaluation was better than that of Ilmichal. The carotenoid content of Hwangmichal was $32.2{\mu}g/g$, which was much higher than that of Ilmichal. Lodging resistance of Hwangmichal was better than that of Ilmichal. Although the number of fresh ears of Hwangmichal was more than that of Ilmichal, the weight of fresh ears was lower than that of Ilmichal. The flowering period of its parent lines was well matched and seed production was 3:1 at a planting density of parent lines of more than 2:1. It is adaptable to the whole country except for Jeju-do. The plant variety protection right of Hwangmichal was registered in June 2017, and its grant number is 6728.
BACKGROUND: 'Shiranuhi' mandarin is a major cultivar among all late ripening type of citrus, and is widely cultivated in Korea. However, many farmers have reported scion root problems in their orchard resulting in reduced flowering and fruiting. It is necessary that the physiology of scion-rooted 'Shiranuhi' mandarin trees is further understood. METHODS AND RESULTS: This experiment was conducted to understand the growth response and physiology of scion-rooted 'Shiranuhi' mandarin hybrids. In our study, 'Shiranuhi' mandarin trees were divided into two groups: trees without scion roots (control) and trees with scion roots. The experiment was conducted in Seogwipo of Jeju, with ten replicates for each group. Growth of trees with scion roots was more vigorous and the trees were taller than the controls. Tree height and trunk diameter of scion-rooted trees were significantly higher than those of control trees. Exposed length of rootstocks of scion-rooted trees was significantly lower (by about 2 cm) than that of control trees (8.6 cm). In terms of root nutrition, carbon contents of scion-rooted trees was significantly lower than that of control trees, but nitrogen and potassium concentrations in scion roots were significantly higher than those in control roots. CONCLUSION: Based on the results, we infer that growth of scion-rooted trees was very vigorous and the content of nitrogen in these roots was higher than that in the control tree roots. Thus, the carbon/nitrogen ratio of scion roots was significantly lower than that of the control roots.
Field experiments were carried out to determine the effect of B on rape with application of lime and compost in sandy upland soil and in clayey paddy soil. The plant samples from each treatment at flowering stage were analyzed to interpret the yield response. The effect of B was very significant in both soils, but more marked in sandy upland soil. The application of 20kg/ha borax appears to increase upto the possible level that can be achieved by B application. Application of 40kg/ha borax did not give any further additional response. In acidic paddy soil (pH 5.4), the effect of B was fully exhibited only with liming. Liming neither intensified the B deficiency nor reduced the B content in the plant tissue, but rather promoted the growth of rape plant. There was highly significant negative correlation between Ca/B ratio and seed yield ($r=-0.74^{**}$), but it was very difficult to draw a line between normal and deficient Ca/B ratio. It is very interesting that boron application significantly increased the Ca uptake in no lime treatment. Application of compost was generally inffective and did not affect the B supply to the plant. However, it appears to increase K uptake slightly and give a little favorable effect on growth of plant.
This experiment was carried out to elucidate the mfluence of honeybees pollinatIOn on yield and YIeld components of soybean at the Kyungbuk Provincial Rural Development Administration from 1990 to 1991. SIX soybean varieties were cultivated in net houses with and without bees. Italian honeybees(Apis melhfem L.) were used. The Vlsiting frequency of bees in net house wIth bees was 58% higher than that of field honeybees, and it was the highest at 10 A.M. during a day. Number of pods per plant and podding ratio of soybean were higher with bees compared with Wlthout bees, especially for the varieties Paldalkong and Dankyongkong. The number of seeds per pod was not significantly different between with bees and without bees, although the percentage of three seeded pod of varieties Danyeobkong and Muhankong and one seeded pod of varieties Hwangkeumkong and Milyangkong 'was increased. The percentage of three seeded pod of Paldalkong and Dankyeongkong, however, was decreased with bees compared with without bees. At the same time no varietal difference was found in two seeded pods between with bees and without bees. Yield of soybeans was increased 0 to 12 % with bees compared with that of without bees. Yield increase was the hIghest in Paldalkong and Dankyongkong. The ratIO of soybean hybrid plant was mcreased with-bees compared with that of without-bees, especially m Paldalkong and Dankyongkong. A negative correlation was found between the ratio of hybrid plant and the duration of flowering in soy¬beans.
