  • A flywheel-driven rapid compression and expansion machine is developed and utilized for experimental study of homogeneous charge compression ignition combustion. Compression ignition of homogeneous charge in IC engines offers possibilities of realizing ultra-lean engine operation with greatly reduced NOx and particulate formation. Fundamental investigations are carried out in order to better understand this ideal engine combustion mechanism. Perfectly premixed propane-air mixtures of various equivalence ratio are compression-ignited in the rapid compression and expansion machine, and the characteristics of the auto-ignition and the following combustion process are analyzed.

  • Drying shrinkage cracking which may be caused by the relatively large specific surface is a matter of grave concern for latex modified concrete(LMC) overlay and rapid-setting cement latex modified concrete(RSLMC) overlay. Therefore, the purpose of this dissertation was to study the drying shrinkage properties of LMC and RSLMC with the main experimental variables such as cement types(ordinary portland cement, rapid setting cement), latex contents(0, 5, 10, 15, 20%), W-C ratios, and curing days at a same controlled environment of 60% of relative humidity and $20^{\circ}C$ of temperature. Test results revealed that the drying shrinkage of latex modified concrete(LMC), rapid-setting cement latex modified concrete(RSLMC) was considerably lower than that of ordinary portland cement concrete(OPC), rapid-setting cement concrete(RSC), respectively. This may be attributed to the interlocking of hydrated cement and aggregates by a film of latex particles, water retention due to hydrophobic and colloidal properties of the latexes, resulting in reduced water evaporation.

Korea's Rapid Export Expansion in the 1960s: How It Began

  • Korea's rapid export expansion suddenly began in the early 1960s and boosted the economy. This paper's investigation finds that it began in 1961, as new export items appeared, export of which increased incomparably faster than that of the current export items at the time. How and why of this highly unusual phenomenon can best be explained by a major reform of foreign exchange system in February 1961. This goes against the widely held view that the switch in development policy from import substitution to export promotion in the mid-1960s was the reason for Korea's export success. Rather, the evidence indicates that the rapid export expansion led to the policy switch. The government's export promotion since the policy switch helped the rapid export expansion continue into the 1970s, despite the protectionist import policy.

  • In this study, investigation of transient knock characteristics in a spark-ignition engine has been carried out. The universal knock threshold values were found by a DFDD method and a NSDBP method which is a non-dimensional version of the SDBP method. Also modified NSDBP method could be used for transient knock detection. In a commercial ECU , spark timing was retarded from the steady -state spark timing during rapid throttle opening to avoid uncomfortable feeling and knock. Knock usually occurred just after the start of rapid throttle opening when spark timing was set, as values for the steady state condition. We found that air/fuel ratio deeply involved with the knock during transient condition. Due to the difference of initial heat release rate, knock occurred more easily at rich air/fuel ratio than at lean air/fuel ratio.

  • This paper is described manufacturing to jewelry by using rapid prototype. At that time, the SLC file is useful for solved generating errors to part build file. Then. we have reduced the time of manufacturing complicated three-dimensional form. Generally, it is used the STL file for rapid prototype that it is necessary to considerable time when complicated firm as jewelry generated pan build file. But the SLC file is solved to problem because it consists of configuration of a section. Neter the less, Generating Part build file hate had a lot of problem when the SLC file is used.

  • Polystyrene foam is easily melted and vapoured by heat, has a proper quality in the pattern manufacturing and has a low price. The objective of this study is to develop a rapid prototyping method fur polystyrene foam pattern manufacuring to use the eliminative pattern casting (EPC). Applying fur the rapid prototyping concept reversely, the unnecessary part of section is vapored away by heat source of laser beam. In order to examine the applicability between laser beam process and polystyrene foam material, the basic experiments such as hole, line, plane and contour process are carried out. With these results, various three-dimensional shape patterns are made and this rapid prototyping tool for polystyrene foam manufacturing.

  • A torsional vibration at driveline happens seriously at rapid vehicle acceleration. The torsional vibration at driveline can be reduced by optimization of joint angle and yoke phase angle of driveline. But, the joint angle of driveline is changed according to vehicle driving condition as acceleration, deceleration, forward and backward driving, so that excessive vibration is transmitted to vehicle body at specific driving condition. Especially under rapid acceleration condition, vibration transmitted to body could be maximized because excitation force at rapid acceleration is bigger than that at normal driving condition due to changed joint angle. The torsional vibration of driveline can be kept at low level by controlling suspension parameter to minimize rigid axle displacement as well as optimizing joint angles considering the vehicle acceleration condition.
