We investigated the breakdown characteristic of mineral oil according to applied voltage and tip radius. In this experiment, electrode system was point-plane geometry. The tip radius of needle was 5, 10, 20 and $25{\mu}m$, respectively. Applied voltage was AC and DC. We measured breakdown voltage for each tip radius with increasing electrode gap, 2mm to 10mm. Under nonuniform electric field, breakdown strength was higher when needle was negative than when needle was positive. Because it is polarity effects due to space charge. And the more sharp tip radius, whether we applied AC or DC, the higher breakdown strength. As tip radius increase, breakdown strength decreases exponentially.
Recently, most of researches for sheet metal deep drawing process have been performed on the formability of axisymmetric shape, but there are not any concrete reports on the formability of non-axisymmetric shape. In addition, the conventional shape radius of the punch and die has been determined by trial-and-error using industrial experience and post processing test, and only approximate shape radius of the punch and die has been presented. In this study, the optimal shape radius of the punch and die in deep drawing process with biaxisymmetric blank shape is proposed. Through the deep drawing experiment, especially it is found that in order to obtain the optimal products, and improvement of formability can be researched by selection of such punch and die shape radius that gives an adequate thickness distribution in all processes.

In this paper, a new zone radius determination algorithm is proposed for a nature-inspired routing protocol that emulates the foraging behavior of bees based on their ability to find an optimal route from nectar sites. Instead of changing the radius of nodes one-hop by one-hop, the proposed algorithm alters the radius of nodes as gaps of another radius and adapt quickly to network conditions. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has higher efficiency compared with existing studies in an aspect of computational complexity and end-to-end delay.
Mass and radius of a neutron star in low-mass X-ray binary (LMXB) can be estimated simultaneously when the observed light curve and spectrum show the photospheric radius expansion feature. This method has been applied to 4U 1746-37 and the mass and radius were found to be unusually small in comparison with typical neutron stars. We re-estimate the mass and radius of this target by considering that the observed light curve and spectrum can be affected by other X-ray sources because this LMXB belongs to a very crowded globular cluster NGC 6441. The new estimation increases the mass and radius but they do not reach the typical values yet.
Given a graph G, a {1, 3, …, 2n-1}-factor of G is a spanning subgraph of G, in which each degree of vertices is one of {1, 3, …, 2n-1}, where n is a positive integer. In this paper, we first establish a lower bound on the size (resp. the spectral radius) of G to guarantee that G contains a {1, 3, …, 2n-1}-factor. Then we determine an upper bound on the distance spectral radius of G to ensure that G has a {1, 3, …, 2n-1}-factor. Furthermore, we construct some extremal graphs to show all the bounds obtained in this contribution are best possible.
Conformity between the femoral component and tibial insert within the knee replacement may be measured in frontal or sagittal view, and shows differences in the curvature radius of the femoral component depending on the flexion angle, i.e., curvature radius has a complex effect on contact stress. Therefore, it is essential to confirm how the curvature radius effects contact stress, and provide an important variable to reduce contact stress. This study correlated contact stress with curvature radius measured in frontal and the sagittal views and confirmed the effect of curvature radius for assessment of the Newly Designed Unicompartment Knee Replacement (NDUKR). Finite element models were constructed for NDUKR and $Zimmer^{(R)}$ Unicompartment High Flex Knee Replacement system (ZUKR), incorporating the curvature radius as measured in either frontal or sagittal view. The femoral component had 1200N of compressive load applied approximately 1.65xbody weight. Contact stress was predicted at flexion angles $0^{\circ}C$, $30^{\circ}C$, $60^{\circ}C$, $90^{\circ}C$ and $120^{\circ}C$, for NDUKR: 42, 47.7, 47.7, 51.2, and 54.1 MPa, and ZUKR: 41.2, 49.5, 53.2, 54.3, and 57.4 MPa, respectively. Correlation analysis showed the influence of curvature radius measured from the sagittal view was larger than for frontal view.
One of the main applications of FRP composites is confining concrete columns. Hence identifying the cyclic and monotonic stress-strain behavior of confined concrete columns and the parameters influencing this behavior is inevitable. Two significant parameters affecting the stress-strain behavior are aspect ratio and corner radius. The present study aims to scrutinize the effects of corner radius and aspect ratio on different aspects of stress-strain behavior of FRP confined concrete specimens (rectangular, square and circular). Hence 44 FRP confined concrete specimens were tested and the results of the tests were investigated. The findings indicated that for specimens with different aspect ratios, the relationship between the ultimate stress and the corner radius is linear and the variations of the ultimate stress versus the corner radius decreases as a result of an increase in aspect ratio. It was also observed that increase of the corner radius results in increase of the compressive strength and ultimate axial strain and increase of the aspect ratio causes an increase of the ultimate axial strain but a decrease of the compressive strength. Investigation of the ultimate condition showed that the FRP hoop rupture strain is smaller in comparison with the one obtained from the tensile coupon test and also the ultimate axial strain and confined concrete strength are smaller when a prism is under monotonic loading. Other important results of this study were, an increase in the axial strain during the early stage of unloading paths and increase of the confining effect of FRP jacket with the increase and decrease of the corner radius and aspect ratio respectively, a decrease in the slope of reloading branches with cycle repetitions and the independence of this trend from the variations of the aspect ratio and corner radius and also quadric relationship between the number of each cycle and the plastic strain of the same cycle as well as the independence of this relationship from the aspect ratio and corner radius.
Background: Significant discrepancy exists between anatomical plate designs and the anatomy of the native distal radius, which may be attributable to considerable morphometric variations in the volar aspect of the distal radius. We aimed to evaluate the degree of variability in the morphometry of the distal radius and identify factors associated with this variability. Methods: We measured the volar surface angle (VSA) of the intermediate and lateral columns and the volar surface width (VSW) in the distal radius from three-dimensional computed tomography scans acquired from 81 cadaveric forearms. These morphometric parameters were compared between the lateral and intermediate columns, between males and females, and between Koreans and Caucasians. Caucasian morphometric data were obtained and pooled from the previous studies. The coefficient of variation was used to assess the variability of the parameters and Cohen's d to estimate the effect size of the difference between groups. Results: The average VSA of the lateral column was $22^{\circ}{\pm}6^{\circ}$, and that of the intermediate column was $29^{\circ}{\pm}8^{\circ}$ in Koreans (p < 0.001). The variability was high for both VSAs. The VSA of the intermediate column was significantly larger in males than in females (p < 0.001) and in Caucasians than in Koreans (p < 0.001). The average VSW of distal radius was $30{\pm}3mm$ at the watershed line, and it became narrower proximally. The VSW was significantly larger in males than in females (p < 0.001) and in Koreans than in Caucasians (p < 0.001). The effect sizes of the difference for the VSA and VSW between sexes, races and columns were medium to large. Conclusions: Considerable variability exists in the morphometry of the volar distal radius, with sex, race, and column as contributing factors. These results suggest that surgeons should carefully choose an anatomical volar locking plate with appropriate angulation characteristics for each patient to achieve patient-specific alignment of the distal radius.
For n ≥ 2 and a real Banach space E, 𝓛(nE : E) denotes the space of all continuous n-linear mappings from E to itself. Let Π (E) = {[x*, (x1, . . . , xn)] : x*(xj) = ||x*|| = ||xj|| = 1 for j = 1, . . . , n }. An element [x*, (x1, . . . , xn)] ∈ Π(E) is called a numerical radius point of T ∈ 𝓛(nE : E) if |x*(T(x1, . . . , xn))| = v(T), where the numerical radius v(T) = sup[y*,y1,...,yn]∈Π(E)|y*(T(y1, . . . , yn))|. For T ∈ 𝓛(nE : E), we define Nradius(T) = {[x*, (x1, . . . , xn)] ∈ Π(E) : [x*, (x1, . . . , xn)] is a numerical radius point of T}. T is called a numerical radius peak n-linear mapping if there is a unique [x*, (x1, . . . , xn)] ∈ Π(E) such that Nradius(T) = {±[x*, (x1, . . . , xn)]}. In this paper we present explicit formulae for the numerical radius of T for every T ∈ 𝓛(nE : E) for E = c0 or l∞. Using these formulae we show that there are no numerical radius peak mappings of 𝓛(nc0 : c0).
