Previous studies have shown that the drying shrinkage of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) is greater than that of natural aggregate concrete (NAC). Drying shrinkage is the fundamental reason for the cracking of concrete, and tensile creep caused by the restraint of drying shrinkage plays a significant role in the cracking because it can relieve the tensile stress and results in the delay of cracking occurrence. However, up till now, all research has been focusing on the compressive creep of RAC. Therefore, in this study, a uniaxial restrained shrinkage cracking test was executed to investigate the tensile creep properties caused by the restraint of drying shrinkage of RAC. The mechanical properties, such as compressive strength, tensile splitting strength, and Young's modulus of RAC were also investigated in this study. The results confirmed that the tensile creep of RAC caused by the restraint of shrinkage was about 20-30 % larger than that of NAC.
3-dimentional precast recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) finite element models were developed by means of the platform OpenSees to implement sophisticated nonlinear model subjected to seismic loads. Efforts were devoted to the dynamic responses (including dynamic characteristics, acceleration amplifications, displacements, story drifts) and capacity curve. In addition, this study extended the prediction on dynamic response of precast RAC model by parametric study of material properties that represent the replacement percentage of recycled coarse aggregate (RCA). Principles and assumptions that represent characteristics of precast structure and influence of the interface between head of column and cast-in-place (CIP) joint on the stiffness of the joints was put forward and validated by test results. The comparison between simulated and tested results of the precast RAC frame shows a good correlation with most of the relative errors about 25% in general. Therefore, the adopted assumptions and the platform OpenSees are a viable approach to simulate the dynamic response of precast frames made of RAC.
Many studies have focused on the anticarcinogenic, antimutagenic or chemopreventive activi-ties of capsaicin (trans-8-methyl-N-vanillyl-6-nonenamide) which is a major pungent ingredient in red pepper. We have previously shown that capsaicin selectively induces apoptosis in H-ras-transformed MCF10A human breast epithelial cells but not in their normal cell counter-parts (Int. J. Cancer, 103, 475-482,2003). In this study, we investigated the possible roles of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and Rac1 in capsaicin-induced apoptosis of H-ras MCF10A cells. Selective induction of ROS generation by capsaicin treatment was observed only in H-ras MCF10A cells. Pretreatment of H-ras MCF10A cells with an antioxidant N-acetylcysteine(NAC) significantly reversed capsaicin-induced growth inhibition, suggesting that ROS may mediate the apoptosis of H-ras-transformed cells induced by capsaicin. Rac1 was prominently activated by H-ras in MCF10A cells. Based on the studies using a wild type Rac1 and a domi-nant negative Rac1 constructs, we propose that Rac1 activity is critical for inhibitory effect of capsaicin on growth of H-ras-transformed MCF10A cells possibly through ROS generation.
Test models which have geometrical similarities with a real room air conditioner (RAC) have been manufactured including visualization windows so that a laser beam can pass through a cross flow fan. Then, flow distributions of the RAC have been investigated using a visualization technique such as a Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) to analyze an efficiency and noise of the RAC. Pitot tubes have also been used to measure the flow velocity inside the RAC with various positions to confirm the measurement accuracy of the PIV technique. The measured flow velocities have been analyzed and new designs of the RAC have been proposed to improve the efficiency and to reduce the noise for the RAC in this study.
This paper proposes a new implementational model based on the security model of Oracle for Web ontology. Recently, several access control models using relational database security model for access control to Web ontology have been developing, and one of the most representative access control model is the RAC model. However, the RAC model is based on the standard security model, and thus it does not provide a implementational model for practical relational database management systems. In this paper, we propose an implementational model based on Oracle which is widely used and providing various security policies. This paper shows the implementation and experimental evaluation. Especially, the proposed model uses the VPD security model of Oracle and support high application and usability.
Polymerizations of higher $\alpha$-olefins were carried out in toluene by using highly isospecific catalyst, rac-(EBI)M(NMe$_2$)$_2$ (EBI=1,2-ethylenebis-(1-indenyl); M=Zr(rac-1); M=Hf(rac-2)) In the presence of Al(i-Bu)$_3$/[Ph$_3$C][B($C_{6}F_{5}$)$_4$]. The polymerization of high $\alpha$-olefin showed high activity and similar polymerization behavior. The polymerization activity was affected by both monomer size and lateral size of polymer chain. The conversion of monomer to polymer decreases with the increased lateral size in the order of 1-pentene>1-hexene>1-octene>1-decene. The same dependences of melting behavior and intrinsic viscosity of polyolefin on lateral size were observed according to the results obtained by differential scanning calorimetry and intrinsic viscosity. All poly($\alpha$-olefin)s showed very high isotacticity (triad) and the isotacticity increases in the order of poly(1-pentene)$^1H$ NMR and Raman spectra analysis showed that chain transfer to cocatalyst, which generates saturated methyl groups, Is a main chain termination. The $\beta$-hydride eliminations, which generate unsaturated vinylidene, tri-substituted, and vinylene end group. are found to be minor chain terminations.

Plants have evolved along with pathogens, and they have developed sophisticated defense systems against specific microorganisms to survive. G-protons are considered one of the upstream signaling components working as a key for the defense signal transduction pathway. For activation and inactivation of G-protein, GTP-biding proteins are involved. GTP -binding proteins are found in all organisms. Small GTP-binding proteins, having masses of 21 to 30kD, belong to a superfamily, often named the Ras supefamily because the founding members are encoded by human Ras genes initially discovered as cellular homologs of the viral ras oncogene. Members of this supefamily share several common structural features, including several guanine nucleotide binding domains and an effector binding domain. However, exhibiting a remarkable diversity in both structure and function. They are important molecular switches that cycle between the GDP-bound inactive form into the GTP-bound active form through GDP/GTP replacement. In addition, most GTP-binding proteins cycle between membrane-bound and cytosolic forms. such as the RAC family are cytosolic signal transduction proteins that often are involved in processing of extracellular stimuli. Plant RAC proteins are implicated in regulation of plant cell architecture secondary wall formation, meristem signaling, and defense against pathogens. But their molecular mechanisms and functions are not well known. We isolated a RacB homolog from rice to study its role of defense against pathogens. We introduced the constitutively active and the dominant negative forms of the GTP-hinging protein OsRacB into the wild type rice. The dominant negative foms are using two forms (full-sequence and specific RNA interference with RacB). Employing southern, and protein analysis, we examine to different things between the wild type and the transformed plant. And analyzing biolistic bombardment of onion epidermal cell with GFP-RacB fusion protein revealed association with the nucle.
Copolymerization of ethylene and ${\alpha}$-olefin using $rac-Et[Ind]_2ZrCl_2/MAO$ catalyst embedded onto polysty-rene was examined. The embedded catalyst was prepared by polymerizing a small amount of styrene with $rac-Et[Ind]_2ZrCl_2$. The catalytic activities of the embedded catalyst were higher than those of the homogeneous catalystregardless of comonomer type and the characteristic of the active sites of the embedded catalyst was not affected duringthe embedding process. Based on the DSC and NMR analyses of the produced copolymers, it was thought that theembedded catalyst had similar or slightly better comonomer incorporation ability. Furthermore, the copolymers produced by the embedded catalyst had higher bulk densities and better particle morphology than those by the homogeneous catalyst.
The first ORF of the ARV S1133 S1 segment encodes the nonstructural protein p10, which is responsible for the induction of cell syncytium formation. However, p10-dependent signaling during syncytium formation is fully unknown. Here, we show that dominant negative RhoA, Rho inhibitor C3 exoenzyme, ROCK/Rho-kinase inhibitor Y-27632 and Rac1 inhibitor NSC23766 inhibit p10-mediated cell fusion. p10 over-expression is concomitant with activation and membrane translocation of RhoA and Rac1, but not cdc42. RhoA and Rac1 downstream events, including JNK phosphorylation and transcription factor AP-1 and $NF-{\kappa}B$ activation, as well as MLC expression and phosphorylation are simultaneously activated by p10. p10 point mutant T13M possessed 20% fusion-inducing ability and four p10 fusion-deficient mutants V15M, V19M, C21S and L32A reduced or lost their ability to activate RhoA and Rac1 signaling. We conclude that p10-mediated syncytium formation proceeds by utilizing RhoA and Rac1-dependent signaling.

Transcription factor NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) regulates the induction of Phase II detoxifying enzymes and antioxidant enzymes in response to many cancer chemopreventive compounds. In this study, we investigated the role of receptor associated coactivator (RAC3) or steroid receptor coactivator-3 (SRC3) and other nuclear co-regulators including CBP/p300 (CREB-binding protein), CARM1 (Coactivator-associated arginine methyltransferase), PRMT1 (Protein arginine methyl-transferase 1), and p/CAF (p300/CBP-associated factor) in the transcriptional activation of a chimeric Gal4-Nrf2-Luciferase system containing the transactivation domain (TAD) of Nrf2 in HepG2 cells. The results indicated that RAC3 up-regulated the transactivation activity of Gal4-Nrf2-(1-370) in a dose-dependent manner. The enhancement of transactivation domain activity of Gal4-Nrf2-(1-370) by RAC3 was dampened in the presence of dominant negative mutants of RAC3. Next we studied the effects of other nuclear co-regulators including CBP/p300, CARM1, PRMT1 and p/CAF, and the results showed that they had different level of positive effects on this transactivation domain activity of Gal4-Nrf2-(1-370). But importantly, synergistic effects of these co-regulators in the presence of RAC3/SRC3 on the transactivation activity of Gal4-Nrf2-(1-370) were observed. In summary, our present study showed for the first time that the 160 RAC3/SRC3 is involved in the functional transactivation of TAD of Nrf2 and that the other nuclear co-regulators such as CBP/p300, CARM1, PRMT1 and p/CAF can also transcriptionally activate this TAD of Nrf2 and that they could further enhance the transactivation activity mediated by RAC3/SRC3.
