  • The computational flow analysis using LES technique was introduced to investigate the flow field improvement of an indoor RAC chassis consisting of a rear-guider, a stabilizer and a cross-flow fan. This unsteady three-dimensional numerical analysis was carried out by the commercial SC/Tetra software. The edge blocks were adopted in this study as a tool for the flow field improvement of an indoor RAC. In view of the results so far achieved, the edge blocks cause the center of an eccentric vortex to be stable along all length of a cross-flow fan, and then, the static pressure and the velocity vector show a stable distributions. In consequence, because the edge blocks eliminate a reverse flow near the edges, an exhausting flow becomes to be stable and uniform.

  • This paper proposes a fuzzy-based random access controller with a superimposed frame structure (F$^2$RAC) fur voice/data-integrated wireless networks. F$^2$RAC adopts mini-slot technique for reducing contention cost, and these mini-slots of which number may dynamically vary from one frame to the next as a function of the traffic load are further partitioned into two regions for access requests coming from voice and data traffic with their respective QoS requirements. And F$^2$RAC is designed to properly determine the access regions and permission probabilities for enhancing the data packet delay while ensuring the voice packet dropping probability constraint. It mainly consists of the estimator with Pseudo-Bayesian algorithm and fuzzy logic controller with Sugeno-type of fuzzy rules. Simulation results prove that F$^2$RAC can guarantee QoS requirement of voice and provide the highest throughput efficiency and the smallest data packet delay amongst the different alternatives including PRMA[1], IPRMA[2], and SIR[3].

  • In predicating the probability distribution of chloride diffusion coefficient of recycled aggregate concrete ($D_{RAC}$), the morphological characteristics of three phases, i.e., the old attached mortar, the natural aggregate and the new mortar, should all be taken into account. The present paper attempts to develop a probability density evolution method (PDEM) to achieve this. After verifying the derived PDEM results with experimental results, the effects of old attached mortar to the $D_{RAC}$ are examined in a quantitative manner. It is found that (1) the variation of the attached mortar content is much sensitive to $D_{RAC}$; (2) given the probability distribution of the content and chloride diffusion coefficient of old mortar, the probability distribution of DRAC can be analysed based on the PDEM; and (3) the critical chloride diffusion coefficient at a certain assurance rate can be obtained by the PDEM. The analysis results of this investigation will be valuable to the durability design for RAC.

  • Thirty one push-out tests were carried out in order to investigate the bond behavior between shape steel, steel tube (named steels) and recycled aggregate concrete (RAC), including 11 steel reinforced recycled aggregate concrete (SRRAC) columns, 10 recycled aggregate concrete-filled circular steel tube (RACFCST) columns and 10 recycled aggregate concrete-filled square steel tube (RACFSST) columns. Eleven recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) replacement ratios (i.e., 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90% and 100%) were considered for SRRAC specimens, while five RCA replacement ratios (i.e., 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%), concrete type and length-diameter ratio for recycled aggregate concrete-filled steel tube (RACFST) specimens were designed in this paper. Based on the test results, the influences of all variable parameters on the bond strength between steels and RAC were investigated. It was found that the load-slip curves at the loading end appeared the initial slip earlier than the curves at the free end. In addition, eight practical bond strength models were applied to make checking computations for all the specimens. The theoretical analytical model for interfacial bond shear transmission length in each type of steel-RAC composite columns was established through the mechanical derivation, which can be used to design and evaluate the performance of anchorage zones in steel-RAC composite structures.

  • The need for carbon neutrality in the world strives the construction industry to reduce the use of construction materials. Aiming to this, recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) could be used as it reduces the carbon dioxide emissions. Currently, RAC is mainly used in non-structural members of civil constructions, seldom used in structural members. To broaden its structural use, a new type of composite column, i.e., the square and rectangular RAC filled FRP tubes (CFFTs), has been concerned in this study. The investigation on their axial compressive behavior through physical test and numerical analysis demonstrated that the load-carrying capacity of such column is reduced with the increase of replacement ratio of recycled aggregate and aspect ratio of section but can be improved by the increase of FRP confining stiffness and corner radius, said capacity can be equivalent to their steel reinforced concrete counterparts. At failure, the hoop strain at corner of tube is unexpectedly smaller than that at flat side of the tube although the FRP tube ruptured at its corner first, revealing a premature failure. Besides, a design-oriented stress-strain model of concrete and an analysis-oriented finite element model are proposed to predict the load-strain response of square and rectangular CFFT columns, which facilitates the engineering use of RAC in load-carrying structural members.

  • Internal and inlet flows of a cross-flow fan have been visualized using a particle image velocimetry(PIV) to analyze a relationship with a performance of a room air conditioner(RAC). A test model which has a geometric similarity with the real RAC has been manufactured for the experiment and the flow characteristics have been analyzed with various flow rates and inlet grill angles for the cross-flow fan. The experimental results using the PIV technique have been compared with the existing numerical results. Also, a location and movement of an eccentric vortex which can affect the performance and noise of the RAC has been investigated by the PIV with various flow rates and inlet grill angles.

  • Air Conditioner has become a popular comfort providing device since two decades, whether in an office or home especially for warm and wet climate countries. The RAC (Room Air Conditioner) is widely used in various working spaces and residences. It composed of heat exchager, cross-flow fan, stabilizer, rearguider and blade of diffuser region, etc. In this study, numerical analyses based on the prediction of transient phenomena were carried out to investigate the flow characteristics in the RAC, including the impeller, the rearguider, the stabilizer and the blade of the diffuser region. Using a commercial code, FLUENT, the velocity, pressure and streamlines were obtained with unsteady, turbulent flow and no-slip condition. The angular velocities of impeller are located in the 900 rpm. Turbulent closure was achieved using a standard k-${\varepsilon}$ model. A moving reference frame (MRF) approach was adopted to simulate the flow field generated by impeller in the RAC. Results were graphically depicted with various geometrical configurations and operating conditions.

  • Regional Agricultural Cluster(RAC) at Asan area has been formed with Purundeul farming union corporation(Purundeul) as the center from the year 2005. Originally, RAC has been proceeded by Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MFAFF) all over the nation from 2005. This RAC has helped Asan area to establish the foundation of environmentally friendly agriculture(EFA) searching for nutritional cycle. This also made jumping age turn developing age in EFA at Asan area. The number of Purundeul producer members was 386 farmers in 2008. Purundeul introduced organic livestock farming(Korean beef cattle; Hanwoo) for proceeding EFA searching for nutritional cycle in 2007, and had 719 cattle at the end of March 2009. Feedstuff materials for organic livestock is mostly produced from seeding farming by-products within Asan or the country. Asan RAC had built factories for feedstuff producing and beef processing with producers' investment.

  • The signal transduction pathway leading to the activation of the p70s6k plays an important role in the progression of cells from G0/G1 to S phase of the cell cycle but remains incompletely characterized. We investigated the role of the Rho family G protein Rac1 in H2O2-mediated p70s6k activation. Transient expression of a dominant negative mutants of the small GTP-binding proteins Rac1 (Rac1N17) and Cdc42(Cdc42N17) showed reduced levels of slower migration on Western blots of one-dimensional SDS-PAGE in p70s6k and ERK1/2 by PDFG stimulation. • This paper presents the effect of different micro-silica (MS) contents of 5, 10 and 15 wt.% as partial replacement of cement on mechanical and durability properties of high volume fly ash - recycled aggregate concretes (HVFA-RAC) containing 50% class F fly ash (FA) and 35% recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) as partial replacement of cement and natural coarse aggregate (NCA), respectively. The measured mechanical and durability properties are compressive strength, indirect tensile strength, elastic modulus, drying shrinkage, water sorptivity and chloride permeability. The effects of different curing ages of 7, 28, 56 and 91 days on above properties are also considered in this study. The results show that the addition of MS up to 10% improved the early age (7 days) strength properties of HVFA-RAC, however, at later ages (e.g. 28-91 days) the above mechanical properties are improved for all MS contents. The 5% MS exhibited the best performance among all MS contents for all mechanical properties of HVFA-RAC. In the case of measured durability properties, mix results are obtained, where 10% and 5% MS exhibited the lowest sorptivity and drying shrinkage, respectively at all ages. However, in the case of chloride ion permeability a decreasing trend is observed with increase in MS contents and curing ages. Strong correlations of indirect tensile strength and modulus of elasticity with square root of compressive strength are also observed in HVFA-RAC. Nevertheless, it is established in this study that MS contributes to the sustainability of HVFA-RAC significantly by improving the mechanical and durability properties of concrete containing 50%less cement and 35% less natural coarse aggregates.
