The comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) for the fungicidal activity with N-phenylbenzenesulfonamide analogues (1-45) against gray mold (Botriyts cinerea) were studied quantitatively. The statistical values of CoMFA models had much better predictability and fitness than those of comparative molecular similarity indices analysis (CoMSIA) models. The statistical values of the optimized CoMFA I model were predictablity, $r^2_{cv.}(or\;q^2)=0.457$ and correlation coefficient, $r^2_{ncv.}=0.959$, and their fungicidal activity was dependent on the steric field (52%) and electrostatic field (35.6%) of the substrate molecules. And also, it was found that the optimized CoMFA I model with the sensitivity to perturbation ($d_q^{2'}/dr^2_{yy'}=0.898$) and prediction ($q^2=0.346$ & SDEP=0.614) produced by a progressive scrambling analysis was not dependent on chance correlation. From the results of graphical analyses on the contour maps with the optimized CoMFA I model, it is expected that the $R_3$ and $R_4$-substituents on the N-phenyl ring as steric favor group and para-substituents ($R_1$) on the S-phenyl ring as steric disfavor group will contribute to the fungicidal activity. Therefore, the optimized CoMFA I model should be applicable to the prediction of the fungicidal activities against gray mold.
The herbicidal activities against the pre-emergence of rice plant (Oryza sativa L.) and barnyard grass (Echinochloa crus-gall) with changing substituents $(R_1-R_4)$ of new 5-benzofuryl-2-[1-(alkoxyimino) alkyl]-3-hydroxycyclohex-2-en-1-one derivatives as substrate molecules were studied quantitatively using comparative molecular field analyses (CoMFA). The optimized CoMFA models (rice plant: A5 & barnyard grass: B3) were derived from atom based fit alignment and a combination of CoMFA fields. The two models for herbicidal activity against two plants showed the best predictability and fitness ($q^2$>0.6 & ${r^2}_{ncv.}$>0.94) for the herbicidal activities. Also, CoMFA-HINT contour maps showed that the selective herbicidal activity between rice plant and barnyard grass depends on the hydrophobicity of $R_2\;and\;R_3$ groups in molecule. Therefore, it is expected that the herbicidal activity against barnyard grass will be improved by the introduction of the steric bulk small and hydrophobic group.

Accurate monitoring of snow cover is a key component for studying climate and global as well as for daily weather forecasting and snowmelt runoff modelling. The few observed data related to snowmelt was the major cause of difficulty in extracting snowmelt factors such as snow cover area, snow depth and depletion curve. Remote sensing technology is very effective to observe a wide area. Although many researchers have used remote sensing for snow observation, there were a few discussions on the characteristics of spatial and temporal variation. Snow cover maps were derived from NOAA AVHRR images for the winter seasons from 1997 to 2006. Distributed snow depth was mapped by overlapping between snow cover maps and interpolated snowfall maps from 69 meteorological observation stations. Model parameters (Snow Cover Area: SCA, snow depth, Snow cover Depletion Curve: SDC) were built for 7 major watersheds in South Korea. The decrease pattern of SCA for time (day) was expressed as exponentially decay function, and the determination coefficient was ranged from 0.46 to 0.88. The SCA decreased 70% to 100% from the maximum SCA when 10 days passed.
Focused in the characteristic of R&D on Geoscience and Mineral Resources as basic research area, we survey on methods of public works' economic impact analysis including cost-benefit analysis and resent technology evaluation methods and suggest apply-methods to conduct economic impact analysis on R&D of geoscience and mineral resources. To conduct economic impact analysis on the basic research area, it need to identification research's out-come not just output. In this perspective, we propose a method, Input-Output-Outcome Roadmapping to identify the outcome of R&D and show the relation of input, output, and outcome of R&D. Furthermore, noticing the different effects of R&D from public works, we directly evaluate the use-value of the academic theory or geological maps through Contingent Valuation Method(CVM) and others developed as evaluation methods on environmental goods. In indirect application methods, it can evaluate the partial of the pubic works' benefit with assuming R&D factors if R&D is a part of public works. If not, we evaluate the R&D's value as reductions of costs or additions of benefit with finding related public works.

An artificial disturbance like fragmentation in watershed forest has impacted a sustainability of watershed ecosystem, therefore this research quantified the landscape structure in the Geumho river watershed using landscape indices and GIS. Landscape indices were calculated from the forest distributed maps for 24 subwatersheds. Three common factors, which explained about 85% of the variation in the original data, were extracted by a factor analysis. The fragmentation gradient in forest landscape, which was calculated from the factor scores, was correlated with proportion of urban land (r=0.827, p<0.01, $R^2$=0.685), elevation (r=-0.637, p<0.01) and slope gradient (r=-0.593, p<0.01). The result of the study presented that the methodology and the values of landscape indices to assess the structural patterns of forest landscape for the Geumho river watershed management. Future research will be directed towards the detection of impacts of landscape patterns and their changes on the integrity of watershed environments.
Holographic quantitative structure activity relationships (HQSAR) as 2D QSAR between the herbicidal activities against root and shoot of rice plant (Orysa sativa L.) and barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crus-galli), and structures of A=3,4,5,6-tetra-hydrophthalimino, B = 3-chloro-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-2H-indazolyl and C = 3,4-dimethylmaleimino substituents in 1-(5-methyl-3-phenylisoxazolin-5-yl)methoxy-2-chloro-4-fluorobenzene derivatives were studied and discussed. The statistical results of four HQSAR models for the herbicidal activities against root and shoot of the two plants showed the best predictability of the herbicidal activities based on the cross-validated $r^2\;_{cv}\;(q^2=\;0.760{\sim}0.924)$, non cross-validated conventional coefficient $(r^2\;_{ncv}\;=\;0.868{\sim}0.970)$ and PRESS values $(0.123{\sim}0.261)$. The results indicated that the qualities of HQSAR models for barnyardgrass were slightly higher than that of rice plant. And also, the predictability of HQSAR models were higher $(q^2\;=\;HQSAR\;>\;CoMFA)$ than CoMFA but the conventional coefficients of HQSAR models lower $(r^2\;=\;HQSAR\;<\;CoMFA)$ than CoMFA. Moreover, from the contribution maps, it was founded that the selectivity between the two plants depends upon the 2-fluoro-4-chloro-5-alkoxyanilino and $R_3$ substituent on the C-phenyl ring. These features suggest where to modify a molecular structure in order to improve its selective of herbicidal activities against barnyardgrass.
Parallel imaging technique can provide several advantages for a multitude of MRI applications. Especially, in SENSE technique, sensitivity maps were always required in order to determine the reconstruction matrix, therefore, a number of difference approaches using sensitivity information from coils have been demonstrated to improve of image quality. Moreover, many filtering methods were proposed such as adaptive matched filter and nonlinear diffusion technique to optimize the suppression of background noise and to improve of image quality. In this study, we performed SENSE reconstruction using computer simulations to confirm the most suitable method for the feasibility of filtering effect and according to changing order of polynomial fit that were applied on variation of spatial resolution of sensitivity map. The image was obtained at 0.32T(Magfinder II, Genpia, Korea) MRI system using spin-echo pulse sequence(TR/TE = 500/20 ms, FOV = 300 mm, matrix = $128{\times}128$, thickness = 8 mm). For the simulation, obtained image was multiplied with four linear-array coil sensitivities which were formed of 2D-gaussian distribution and the image was complex white gaussian noise was added. Image processing was separated to apply two methods which were polynomial fitting and filtering according to spatial resolution of sensitivity map and each coil image was subsampled corresponding to reduction factor(r-factor) of 2 and 4. The results were compared to mean value of geomety factor(g-factor) and artifact power(AP) according to r-factor 2 and 4. Our results were represented while changing of spatial resolution of sensitivity map and r-factor, polynomial fit methods were represented the better results compared with general filtering methods. Although our result had limitation of computer simulation study instead of applying to experiment and coil geometric array such as linear, our method may be useful for determination of optimal sensitivity map in a linear coil array.
Crystallographic characteristics and interfacial structures of $Al_2$$O_3$and $ZrO_2$dielectric films prepared by atomic layer chemical vapor deposition (ALCVD) were investigated at atomic scale by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS)/electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) coupled with a field-emission transmission electron microscope. The results obtained from cross-sectional and plan-view specimens showed that the $Al_2$$O_3$film was crystallized by annealing at a high temperature and its crystal system might be evaluated as either cubic or tetragonal phase. Whereas the $ZrO_2$film crystallized during deposition at a low temperature of ∼$300^{\circ}C$ was composed of both tetragonal and monoclinic phase. The interfacial thickness in both films was increased with the increased annealing temperature. Further, the interfacial structures of X$ZrO_2$$O_3$and $ZrO_2$films were discussed through analyses of EDS elemental maps and EELS spectra obtained from the annealed films, respectively.
Natural or man-made disaster has been expected to be one of the potential themes that can integrate human geography and physical geography. Typhoons like Rusa and Maemi caused great loss to insurance companies as well as public sectors. We have implemented a natural disaster management system for a private insurance company to produce better estimation of hazards from high wind as well as calculate vulnerability of damage. Climatic gauge sites and addresses of contract's objects were geo-coded and the pressure values along all the typhoon tracks were vectorized into line objects. National GIS topog raphic maps with scale of 1: 5,000 were updated into base maps and digital elevation model with 30 meter space and land cover maps were used for reflecting roughness of land to wind velocity. All the data are converted to grid coverage with $1km{\times}1km$. Vulnerability curve of Munich Re was ad opted, and preprocessor and postprocessor of wind velocity model was implemented. Overlapping the location of contracts on the grid value coverage can show the relative risk, with given scenario. The wind velocities calculated by the model were compared with observed value (average $R^2=0.68$). The calibration of wind speed models was done by dropping two climatic gauge data, which enhanced $R^2$ values. The comparison of calculated loss with actual historical loss of the insurance company showed both underestimation and overestimation. This system enables the company to have quantitative data for optimizing the re-insurance ratio, to have a plan to allocate enterprise resources and to upgrade the international creditability of the company. A flood model, storm surge model and flash flood model are being added, at last, combined disaster vulnerability will be calculated for a total disaster management system.
This study was performed to estimate the soil loss on a national scale and grade regions with the potential risk of soil erosion. Universal soil loss equation (USLE) for rainfall and runoff erosivity factors (R), cover management factors (C) and support practice factors (P) and revised USLE for soil erodibility factors (K) and topographic factors (LS) were used. To estimate the soil loss, the whole nation was divided into 21,337 groups according to city county, soil phase and land use type. The R factors were high in the southern coast of Gyeongnam and Jeonnam and part of the western coast of Gyeonggi and low in the inland and eastern coast of Gyeongbuk. The K factors were higher in the regions located on the lower streams of rivers and the plain lands of the western coast of Chungnam and Jeonbuk. The average slope of upland areas in Pyeongchang-gun was the steepest of 30.1%. The foot-slope areas from the Taebaek Mountains to the Sobaek Mountains had steep uplands. Total soil loss of Korea was estimated as $50{\times}10^6Mg$ in 2004. The potential risk of soil erosion in upland was the severest in Gyeongnam and the amount of soil erosion was the greatest in Jeonnam. The regions in which annual soil loss was estimated over $50Mg\;ha^{-1}$ were graded as "the very severe" and their acreage was $168{\times}10^3ha$ in 2004. The soil erosion maps of city/county of Korea were made based on digital soil maps with 1:25,000 scale.
