  • Two-dimensional analysis provides a comprehensive description of the structure, scales of pattern and directional components in a spatial data set. In spectral analysisi, four functions are illustrated,; the autocorrelation, the periodogram, the R-spectrum and the $\theta$ -spectrum. The R-spectrum and $\theta$ -spectrum function respectively summarize the periodogram in term of scale of pattern and directional components. Sampling is measured in the Naejang National Park area where the Daphniphyllum trees grow. 320 contiguous (15$\times$15)m plots are located along the transect and density of all trees over DBH 3 cm recorded respectively. 12 species of vascular plant are recorded in this survey area. The trend surface of density of all plant are estimated using polynomial regression and are exhibited in 3-dimensional graph and density contour map. Transformation to the corresponding polar spectrum from the periodogram emphasized the directional components and the scales to pattern. R-spectrum corresponding to the scale of pattern of periodogram showed a large peak 15.47 in the interval 9$\theta$-spectrum corresponding to directional components have two peaks 8.28 and 11.05 in the interval $35^{\circ}\theta <45^{\circ}and 125^{\circ}\theta< <135^{\circ}, respectively. Programs to compute all the analyses described in this study was obtained from Dr. Ranshow and was translated to BASIC by the author.

  • Mullite precursors were synthesized with aluminosilicate gels from mixture of aluminum nitrate and sodium orthosilicate by the geopolymer technique at ambient temperature. Then, the gel was heat-treated in air up to $1200^{\circ}C$ at intervals of $100^{\circ}C$. Raw and heat-treated gels were characterized by TG-DTA, XRD, FTIR, $^{29}Si$ MAS-NMR, TEM. The result to examine the crystallization of behavior though DTA, the synthesized precursors were crystallized in the temperature range from $950^{\circ}C$ to $1050^{\circ}C$. The XRD results showed that the gel compositions were begun to crystallize at various temperature. Also, it was found that the precursors of M-4 begun to crystallize at about $950^{\circ}C$. The M-4 XRD peaks were characterized better than $M-1{\sim}M-3$ at $1000^{\circ}C$. The formation temperature of mullite in this study is much lower than that of previous sol-gel methods, which crystallized at up of $1200^{\circ}C$. TEM investigations revealed that the sample with 10 nm particle size was obtained via heat-treated at $1000^{\circ}C$ for M-4.

  • A study on the TiN coating layer in small holes on the Purpose of die-casting dies application has been performed with a PACVD process. For the hole having diameter of 4 mm. the uniform TiN coating layer in the hole to the depth of 20 mm was achieved using DC pulsed power source. To understand the forming mechanism of TiN coating layer, plasma diagnosis on Ti, $N_{2}^{+}$ and A $r^{+}$ emissions was carried out during plasma coaling process by optical emirssion spectroscopy. When the duty ratio was equal or over 50%, the Peaks of Ti,$ N_{2}^{+}$ and A $r^{+}$ emission were obviously observed. While duty ratio was equal or under 28.6%, no peaks for Ti, $N_{2}^{+}$ and A $r^$ were observed and the formation of TiN coating layer was rarely observed. For the coating in 4 mm hole diameter, the coating layer with bipolar process was two times deeper than that with unipolar process.

  • Alpha lipoic acid, an antioxidant, is widely used for treatment of various diseases. It is a racemic mixture, with R-(+)-α lipoic acid exhibiting greater potency, bioavailability, and effectiveness than those of the S-form. Thus, selective R-(+)-α lipoic acid has been recently used in various applications, necessitating the development of a method to test the enantiomeric impurity in R-(+)-α lipoic acid. We developed a simple and fast high-performance liquid chromatography method using a new immobilized amylose-based chiral column (Chiralpak IA-3). Design of experiment was applied to accurately predict the effects and interactions among various factors affecting the analytical parameters and to optimize the chromatographic conditions. This optimized method could completely separate the two enantiomer peaks with a resolution > 1.8 within a short running time (9 min). Then, the optimized method was validated according to the guidelines of the International Conference on Harmonization and applied for quantification of S-(-)-α lipoic acid in some commercial R-(+)-α lipoic acid tromethamine raw material. Our results suggested that the developed method could be used for routine quality control of R-(+)-α lipoic acid products.

  • Plasma phamacokinetics and renal excretion of theophylline (TP) and its metabolities were ivnestigated in rats. Plasma concentrations of TP declined in a monoexponential manner, while those of 1-methyluric (MU) and 1,3-dimethyluric(DMU) declined in a biexponential manner upon respective iv bolus injection of each compound at 6mg/kg dose. The total body clearances $(CL_r)$ of the metabolites were 4-6 fold larger than that of TP, while the distribution volumes of them at steady-state $(Vd_{ss})$ were 40-50% smaller than that of TP. The metabolites showed their plasma peaks in 30 min after iv injection of TP indicating than that to MU. Renal excretion of TP and its metabolites was studied in urine flow rate (UFR)-controlled rats. The renal clearance $(CL_r)$ of TP was inversely related to pasma TP concentrations, and much smaller than the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) suggesting tubular secretion and profound reabsorption in the renal tubule. The $(CL_r)$ of each metabolite also showed that inverse relationship, but far exceeded GFR suggesting that tubular secretion than GFR by ip injection of probenecid (142.7 mg/kg). It supports that the metabolies are secreted in the renal tubule, and suggests that they share a common transport system in their sectrtion processes with probenecid. On the other hand, the $(CL_r)$ of TP was not affected significantly by the probenecid treatment. Considering the inverse relationship of TP between the $(CL_r)$ and its ploasma concentrations,no effect of probenecid on $(CL_r)$ of TP is most likely due to negligible contribution of the secretion to the overall $(CL_r)$ of TP.

  • Light-emitting chromophores have been separated from silica spheres modified the surface with 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propylmethacrylate (TMSPM). The photoluminescence characteristics of the chromophores were investigated with various excitation wavelengths. The TMSPM was attached to the surface of silica spheres at $75^{\circ}C$. Large number of round shaped particles of the TMSPM was on the surface of silica spheres after 3 h reaction. The TMPSM was completely covered on the surface of the spheres after 6 h reaction. The surface modified silica spheres were soaked into acetone and stored for 20 days at ambient condition. The solution color slowly changed from light yellow to deep yellow with the increase of the storing time. The FTIR absorption peaks at 3348, 2869, 2927, 1715, 1453/1377, 1296, and $1120cm^{-1}$ represent C-OH, $R-CH_3$, $R_2-CH_2$, -C=O, C-H, C=C-H, and Si-O-Si absorption, respectively. The FTIR absorption peak at $1715cm^{-1}$ representing the ester -C=O stretching vibration for silica spheres stored for 20 days was increased compared with the spheres without aging. The UV-visible absorption peaks were at 4.51 eV (275 nm) and 3.91 eV (317 nm). There were two luminescence peaks at 2.51 eV (495 nm) and 2.25 eV (550 nm). The emission at 2.51 eV was dominant peak when the excitation energy was higher than 2.58 eV, and emission at 2.25 eV became dominant peak when the excitation energy was lower than 2.58 eV.

  • A nebumetone tablet in development $(Navuton^R)$ was tested for its bioequivalence to the erference tablet $(Uniton^R)$. Seventeen healthy Korean male subjects participated in this study. Each subject received a 1-g dose of nabumetone (2tables each) in an unbalanced, randomized, two-way crossover investigation. Serum concentrations of 6-methoxy-2-na-phthylacetic acid (6-MNA), a major metabolite of nebumetone, were measured over 120 hr interval by a high-performance liquid chromatography. The maximum serum concentration $(C_{max})$ and time to reach the maximum concentration$(T_{max})$ were read directly, but area under the serum concentration time curve from time 0 to 120 hr (AUC) and mean residence time serum curves showed multiple peaks of 6-MNA in most subjects, and the $C_{max}$ and $T_{max}$ were read from the highest serum peaks. calculated bioavailability parameters for test and reference tablets were 148.6 : 1377.9 $\mug \cdot hr/ml$ for AUC; 25.2:23.1 $\mu/ml$ for $C_{max}$; 11.8:16.4 hr for $T_{max}$, and 42.6 : 43.8 hr for MRT, respectively. The paired t-test revealed no significant differences in all the parameters between the two tablets. Analysis ofl variance (ANOVA) revealed no significant differences between groups and formulations in all the parameters ($C_{max}$ and $T_{max}$, AUC and MRT) indicating the crossover design of the experiment was properly performed. But significant differences (p<0.05) between subject/groups and periods were found for all the parameters indicating substantial intersubject and interperiodic variations for these parameters.

  • Two specimens presumed to be hybrids of Rhodeus pseudosericeus and R. notatus were collected from the Sangcheon Stream of the Han River, Korea. The body color of natural hybrid individuals was yellowish brown, showing the intermediate characteristics of R. pseudosericeus and R. notatus, but overall, the characteristics of R. notatus were similar. Meristic and morphometric characters, the number of dorsal fin rays, anal fin rays and longitudinal row scales showed a hybrid index (HI) of 0, indicating the characters of R. notatus. The hybrid index of predorsal length (HI=74.6), preanal length (HI=75.3), and preventral length (HI=77.6) were similar to the characters of the R. pseudosericeus. Also four characters were appeared to have intermediate characters between R. pseudosericeus and R. notatus; number of gill rakers (HI=55.3), body depth (HI=67.9), snout length (HI=43.4), and inter orbital width (HI=44.8). The rest of 14 characters deviated between 0 and 100, showing unique characteristics of hybrid individuals. Recombination activating gene 1 (RAG1) analysis, hybrids were identified as natural hybrids due to the overlapping peaks of their parent species. Also, as a result of analysis using the cytochrome b gene (COB), one individual was derived from R. pseudosericeus, while the other was derived from R. notatus.

  • Morphological differences in multi-layered graphene flakes or graphene nanoplatelets prepared by oxidative (rGO-NP, reduced graphene oxide-nanoplatelets) and non-oxidative (GIC-NP, graphite intercalation compound-nanoplatelets) routes were investigated with various analytical methods. Both types of NPs have similar specific surface areas but very different structural differences. Therefore, this study proposes an effective and simple method to identify structural differences in graphene-like allotropes. The adsorptive potential peaks of rGO-NP attained by the density functional theory method were found to be more scattered over the basal and non-basal regions than those of GIC-NP. Raman spectra and high resolution TEM images showed more distinctive crystallographic defects in the rGO-NP than in the GIC-NP. Because the R-ratio values of the edge and basal plane of the sample were maintained and relatively similar in the rGO-NP (0.944 for edge & 1.026 for basal), the discrepancy between those values in the GIC-NP were found to be much greater (0.918 for edge & 0.164 for basal). The electrical conductivity results showed a remarkable gap between the rGO-NP and GIC-NP attributed to their inherent morphological and crystallographic properties.

  • This study looks into the dyeing properties and functionality of cotton fabrics dyed in both the Spirodela polyrhiza extract and the extract resulting from the mixture of Salvia plebeia R. Br. and Spirodela polyrhiza. Since the UV-Vis Spectrum of the methanol extract of Spirodela polyrhiza shows absorption peaks at 256, 268nm, and 345nm, it can be inferred that the compound that Spirodela polyrhiza contains is a flavonoid. In addition, it can also be presumed that, by analyzing the infrared absorption spectrum of Spirodela polyrhiza, the plant contains flavonoid compounds, just like Salvia plebeia R. Br.. The UV protection factors of the cotton fabrics dyed in both the Spirodela polyrhiza extract and the extract from the mixture of Salvia plebeia R. Br. and Spirodela polyrhiza were 50+, presenting outstanding UV protection factors. The deodorization rate of the cotton dyed in the Spirodela polyrhiza extract was between 30 and 120 minutes, and the rate rose from 92% to 97% as time passed. The deodorization rate of the cotton dyed in the extract from the mixture of Salvia plebeia R. Br. and Spirodela polyrhiza increased from 88% to more than 91%. The result also revealed that overall the fastness of color, including color fastness to washing related to change in color, as well as the color fastness to light of the fabric dyed in the extract from the mixture of the two plants improved, compared to the cloth dyed only in Spirodela polyrhiza extract. Furthermore, the antibacterial activity was also strengthened.
